HBX16889A-Pro Vs MJX16208 Comparison
มุมมอง 1.6K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've owned a HBX16889A-Pro and an MJX 16208 for a while now and wanted to discuss the differences that I have noticed between the two. It's by no means a complete list, just the things I can think of off the top of my head. Your experience may vary from mine
MJX Hyper Go 14209 / 14210 steering upgrade review

Aliexpress steering upgrade fitted, here are the results! HBX16889A PRO BATTERY UPGRADE
มุมมอง 1.1K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Rough and ready battery compartment mod. More space = more mah! My wheels: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006053870158.html?src=google&aff_fcid=77bda87d4b3745209340c668a447afe8-1705058907477-04704-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=77bda87d4b3745209340c668a447afe8-1705058907477-04704-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=138bba135d024c4e94ec9f1f1baf5e8d&afSmartRedirect=y
I think something is wrong with your installation. It looks like the linkage between the 2 wheels is incorrectly installed or the screws you used are not the correct ones. If the linkage screw does not close fit the lever between the wheels than there is your problem. In some versions there is a brass washer that is there to fill the gap.
Hey my new friend, one trick is to shim your swing arms to remove the slop from them!
So it's no point buying from AliExpress?
Awesome video bro, i jave been looking for vids like this but the algorithms dont suggest this video. Ever applied some SEO?👍
some nylon washers take almost all the play out
entre el 1409 y el 14010 con cual te quedabas si tuvieras que elegir uno? dicen que el 09 vuelca menos y es mas controlable.. no se... y por ese rango de precio de 150euros elegias uno de esos o elegirias otro?
I have the 209 2s for those reasons and I enjoy it alot. 209 also has more ground clearance and a set of big wheels that I run as standard. 209 has lights that you can tap in to using the channel 3 or leads on the ESC and add more lighting from AliExpress. I am gonna buy the steering upgrade, with the upgraded aluminium controll arms, because It does not want to travel very straight under full power. 209 is ment for nearly every road surface, 210 looks more like a pavement princess😅
Great info, thank you!
Did the slop increase with time or was it like that out of the box? Are the diffs durable?
I bought the same model from 2 different sellers, both have the same steering problem. :/ Did you guys get it solved with the product on the link¿? Thanks!
I would like to see a way to slow my 14209 down make it into more of a trail crawler than an acrobat lol .
Buy a remote with throttle dual rate setting. You only need a receiver with the third channel for lights and VCC output for fans (if present)
@@buatt Thanks ! I have a Dumborc X6PM-350 ( 6ch ) with a X6F mini receiver that seems to have those features - not too sure about the fans though ?
This 14209 can do it all, I take walks with it regularly but I also want the dual rate. Luckaly dumborc is relatively cheap. I hope I can get it water tight again😂
If you put a Shim behind the inner ball bearing on the steering knuckle, it will take the rest of that play. 😊
What shim size? :)
Hello brother may i ask what is that? I need like more explanation HEHE(Im sorry im new to this hobbby)
@@daisukekun1029it's a flat ring. You can get with minimal thickness and add how many you need (one on other). Just to give the idea the are like the ring around planet Saturn
The esc on mine recognized the 3s and beeped 3 times instead of 2. I ran a 2000mah 25c and it worked a little wonkey. So I changed out the motor with a higher kv motor, stock everything else and ran it this morning. No cog, no braking, no delay, it screams down the street. 30mph maybe more. Hope I don't ruin it but man it's a fast little fart now.
I'm having a problem putting it together. Was only turning right😢
Yes this MJX is a lot of problem on steering I just get mine last week ang it’s hard to control is going anywhere. I just ordered upgrade servo hopefully this issue will fixe.
You probably need the metal steering parts, check the free movement of the wheels and maybe you'll find the issue. 😊
Serious rc uk carry these parts. I have ordered them thanks for sharing.
I have the same problem and I don't know how to fix it
The drive shaft on mine is missing a bearing on the spur gear so it eats pinion gears. Its almost like the cobbled my car together with different parts from different cars. None of them match the specs in the books or show the missing bearing. Every time I but an rc it seems I get the worst of the worst. Everyone else raves about how good these are and how they need little matinence and parts but mine is just junk. Plastics break, gears strip out. Almost done with hbx in general
These trucks rip apart on 3s and break diffs and gears…. Which is a dedicated 3s truck which can actually run 3s long term….
Easy to mount??
What's the largest battery you can use once this is done? I ended up 3d printing a tray that sits on top of the servo in its original place and it takes an ovonic air 2s 2200 perfectly. Not sure exactly how long it goes on for but at least 40 plus mins.
Great vid many thanks. I was faced with this very dilemma of which 1st RC car to get for me and my young kids (7 and 3). Long story short i went with the HBX mainly down to price. The cheapest I've seen the HBX is £62.50 from banggood (screenshot on fb forum if you want proof). The MJX is typically £80ish minimum. Add to that the necessary mods to get rid of throttle lag and upgrade the gears/ diffs and the MJX is near double the money. Finally, for me its great with very young kids that you can dial the speed right down at any point from 40% to 100% power. The MJX is 70% or 100% only.
Man this video was excellent and full of very useful information. Thank-you!
My car came prefitted with a similar system. No slop at all. Maybe they revised it.
where did you buy yours?
@@zipppiz Amazon
Bought one, crashed it. All steering parts broken. Spent several months trying to get metal replacement parts, had to cancel three different orders from fake sellers until I got the parts. Installed them, they rub and don't work properly. FUCKING RIPOFF PRODUCT. Save your money and buy an Arrma Vorteks. You'll be able to find parts, support and the car itself is much easier to work on than these shitboxes.
same conclusion here. I will go on fixing my MJXs till I will have parts avaible at home . Once the box is empty I will not invest anymore on these. It's a, pity because they are fun and cool but not reliable at all. I had the same issue on one 14210 and on 2 of 14301. Will definetly save for a Arrma Kraton....
I ran mine on 3s 1300mah 20c batteries many times at full speed with no braking. I think the 120c is too high...try a 3s with no more than 25c.
How long does the battery last?
I haven’t been able to run it yet (shoulder surgery) but I snagged a16889a pro off of AliExpress for $77 shipped 🍻
Did you figure out why your one wheel is more wobbly than the other? I had the same issue. One of the sticks where you put the upgrade part on was loose from factory because of a missing washer. Its so much better after tighten it.
i think it's just because the right wheel has more linkage parts between it and the servo, each joint in the linkage has a little bit of play and they add up. More linkages = more slop/movement.
Interesting vid. Thanks for testing it out!
see that you have the hbx 16890 which suffera from the same slack. Mine was even worse because from factory one of the screws of the steering posts was wrong! Thinner and without the metal neck on top which made it have a terrible slack amd right wheel wooble imp9ssible to keep straight line without permanent corrections. Ordered a metal kit but honestly only the right screw corrected it
Cool video! I think you answered a lot of questions on this 3s topic! Here's sub 21 for you!! Cheers mate!
thanks!
After a crash my 14210 is as bad as that one how can I fix it without buying new parts? Mine wasn't bad at all before this crash
Did you fix it?
honestly too much work. I simply bought 1600mah cheap 2s 30c batteries that are thicker than original but still mange to put them on the same compartment with the help of velcro and thats it. 40 minutes of non stop bashing.
Hello. Please provide the link for battery
nice - link to the battery please

Got a link to the battery you’re talking about?
Links for where you bought these batteries?
What wheels are they ? The standard ones are the only thing I find that lets it down
They came in the box with my MJX14209. I've tried to add a link in the description but I don't know if it worked. I like them a lot, the stock ones are awful.
Looks like yours is a bit different, bur Derby City RC ran it on 3S, but it also was like it was underpowered or on the brakes all the time.
I did watch his video and I noticed he mentioned his wasn't very happy running on 3s. This whole things seems weird.
On my son's MJX 16208 the rear bevel gear came loose and as a result of that it ran out of true and ate chunks out of the main differential gear. I do not know why the bevel gear came loose from the spur gear at the rear end of the driveshaft?
I've heard a few folks saying the gearing at the back end is giving problems all round. I noticed on one truck I took apart (it was brand new) there was side-to-side movement in the diff when fitted in the chassis, making the spur gear a very loose fit against the main diff gear. It would have certainly caused gear damage very quickly without diff-shims being installed to stop it moving about.
i have 2 hbx 16889 pro and brushed and their built is flawless. Not as fast as the mjx 1/16 and 1/14 but very reliable and cheap parts if needed
Thank you for the info, I was wondering how I was going to relocate the servo on the left, so the info about the MJX parts has helped me a lot. I will also order the MJX servo bracket to see if I can make it work on my HBX 16889A Pro to keep everything in place. I am thinking of taking it a bit further too, with the MJX brushless ESC and the Dumbo X6FG receiver to make it both 2S and 3S capable.
That's a great idea and something I am planning to try out as I have the MJX 3S ESC and Dumborc X6FG in my MJX 16208 already (I'll do a video about this soon).
You can run 3s on stock esc, but back the speed down to 1/4 or 1/3 and it should work fine without braking all the time - works fine for me and the battery lasts about 45 - 50 mins! Mine is about 2 months old👍
Unfortunately not, I tried turning down the speed and it did not work well at all. In order to be able to pull the throttle all the way I had to reduce the speed by 75%. But at that point the car was so slow it was useless. Hopefully reducing the speed a little will work for other people but it didn't help on my truck.
@@BustedRC-wb8de Maybe it’s down to the battery? The two 3s I have been using are: Floureon 11.1 v 2200mAh 25c & Nano tech 11.1 2250 130c - if this helps (they were from my ‘heli’ days - a few years old now)👍
@@Yarns Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried batteries from two different brands and tested both in my other trucks to make sure they were ok. Next time I'm out for a group bash I'll ask around to see if I can borrow some other makes to try, but at this point I'm not very hopeful. Have you checked the output voltage on the 3s lipos you have? I wonder with them being old if they are less than the usual 3s voltage and thus the truck is happier to run them?
Mine is not as bad as that, so i am concerned that this gets worse with use?
Mine did.
Same here. Sharp and strong steering in the beginning and then it got more and more loose.... I upgraded with metal tie rods but I haven't seen significant improvements. I have a, stronger servo ready to be installed plus the same metal steering leverage system. The main issue is that I have very big difficulties with unscrewing the 2 bottom screws. I had the same issue with the 14301 and both screws got strapped. Now I'm scared to work on them. Any input? Thnx in advance
Can you post a like to those tires??
They're from a 14209 and you can get them on Aliexpress. Problem is that I can't link directly to them only a multi listing that has all kinds of stuff on it. I've put a link in the description, let me know if it worked.
Terrible slop on mine as well I got the same kit coming will let you know how it goes.
Hi am confused do you know exactly what is the cut off voltage for these battery is I don't think it actually is 2s 8.4v cutoff I think 7.4v cut off not sure tho why don't they even say these in manual I dunno I not using cheap chappy charger came with it
I don't know either. Let me know if you find out.
@BustedRC-wb8de I guess its normal 2s 8.4v max cut off
On mine, the max is 8.4v the car cut off when it gets down to 6.8v
The link you provided is incomplete (404 page not found), Could you please provide updated link. My MJX suffers from the same issue!
Found it... :P
Thanks, I ordered one too for my MJX buggy
I just fitted one of these today too haha.. I have some new metal steering arms too, they take a little more slack out and make it acceptable.
Could you please share a link to said product?? Thanks
By steering arms do you mean the tie rods ?
@@steviefpv yes, the metal ones available have a little less slop.
That was the answer I was looking for❤
