Love Inwrought: Johnston Hall and the Memory of a Building
A building in southern Minnesota connected the lives of thousands of people. Its story stretches from a young Chicago to the French seaside, a military camp struck by disease to a tiny congregation in a rented hall. It features clergymen, nurses, soldiers, and philanthropists. The story is not about bricks or cement or bell towers; Johnston Hall's story is about people.
The title of the documentary was inspired by a quote from Bishop Henry Whipple: “There is an unwritten history of faith and love inwrought in every building erected here.” Whipple was writing about the schools he helped to organize; Johnston Hall, completed in 1888, was originally built as part of Seabury Divinity School.
Made in cooperation with Allina Health through the Johnston Hall Memorial Community Advisory Committee.

Revitalizing Finnish-American Music: 30 Years of Ameriikan Poijat
มุมมอง 14Kปีที่แล้ว
At the turn of the 20th century, the seven-person brass band (torviseitsikko) was an important part of culture for Finnish-American immigrants. But as their children and grandchildren set their roots in the Midwest, the music of the torviseitsikko was nearly lost. For 30 years, the Northfield-based "Ameriikan Poijat" has kept the flame burning, revitalizing Finnish-American musical culture.

The fact that the only reason I even KNOW about this is because of a song by an obscure Irish folk singer on TH-cam is almost criminal. The history classes were like “ok so we beat the British- oh by the way, they burned the White House down- uhhh manifest destiny- yatayatayata, boring boring boring- then THE CIVIL WAR.” That was in AMERICAN history, mind you, not just world history.

After that we can give the land back to the Aztecs, then the Mayans and the tribes before that. As far as Texas is concerned, lets give the land back to the Comanches, and they give it back to the Apacback Wooly Mammoths who had the land before that. Victimhood forever. Did the Irish Republic negotiate in bad faith with the British in the Good Friday agreement? If not, the issue is settled.
