    I think the USA and maybe Japan to some extent are the best countries for car enthusiasts. But of course it makes sense for Germany to be a great country for it as well. The car industry in Germany as well as things like the autobahn and nurburg ring, etc.. it just makes sense. Conversely, i'm from the UK which is turning out to be the Worst country IN THE WORLD for car enthusiasts.

      @@MichelsGarage Multiple reasons. Taxation, India specific cars which are just jacked up hatchbacks and are not good enough to be sold elsewhere in the world. Honda, VW and certain other enthusiast brands don't have much in their lineup to offer. No Fiat, no Ford, no Mitsubishi. Cars feel too expensive to own and use for what they offer. The market is dictated by cars which offer features like sunroof, air purifier etc which have nothing to do with the driving feel. Driver focused and enthusiastic cars don't do well here.

    The EU's ISA ('Intelligent Speed Adaptation') is yet another move in this direction towards turning driving into soulless automation-soon there won't be settings to turn them off. Real drivers will end up sticking out from the crowd and have targets on their backs: you're speeding (we can't and therefore don't), you're offsiding (we can't and therefore don't), you braked harshly (the beeper trained me not to), your dated fuel engine is killing the world (they were forced to stop making them, so we 'chose' electric), and your human intuitions scare me (it reminds me of the control I happily gave up). Risk aversity over experience and skill, blanket control over individual freedom. It's pretty bleak. I can't see myself ever buying a car newer than 2016 or so if I'm allowed to. The cars of 10 years ago often come with all the modern trim (heated seats, climate control, cruise control + manual speed limiter, basic media controls), everything after this has become 'disconnected' as you say. Even the body types of high-seated crossover SUVs have developed with no clear design purpose other than to remove people from the road and engage in a battle of 'bigness'. A sofa which just happens to move you from place to place. When I look at my 9th gen Civic Tourer, which sold poorly, I see a clear purpose of design: sleek, efficient, aerodynamic, grounded, usefully roomy. More and more often, everything parked around it appears to be mobility aids for those who would prefer to be dead in life.

      I took my time to think about what to answer, because i normally don't like to have such a pessimistic view about the futur. But your comment is pretty well written and I agree in most points. Although I think that this change will take a massive amount of time considering how many people still drive "old" cars. I think this is more a thing of in 50 or 60 years and not a thing of tomorrow. But that's just my two cents (: (and of course I still look at it optimistic with the hope of there being a shift back to the good ol days)

      As someone from england, here and the netherlands for example have very lenient modification laws, so as long as your insurance company knows your car is modified, and it meets simple things such as lights and plate visibility for annual safety inspections, you can basically do whatever the hell you like to your car. Another advantage i have at least is that the RHD market here means all our cars are significantly cheaper than the mainland, hence why alot of companies here get very cheap jdm imports and export to places like the US where the prices are inflated

    • @VexxedSR
      @VexxedSR วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@zamstig66 It's true that the UK is a very lenient country for mods but that's mainly because barely anyone has the cash left to actually modify a car after they've spent thousands on tyre and suspension repair/replacement costs due to the roads being so crap in 98% of the UK that driving is a game of dodge the potholes/craters. Add on the fees from scalping b*stards that are the insurance companies and you're maybe left with £300 for a cheap remap.

    English government and police be like “we have the most relaxed car laws. Even Germany is worse”. But they fail to mention that insurance for anyone under 28 with a car that’s bigger than a NA 1.4l will be paying £5k minimum each year. And that’s with a black box. Over 28 years old with good insurance history, you’ll be paying at least £1k per year for a decent 2.0l turbo car. That’s not considering how modifying your car without telling insurance is illegal, can void your policy, prevent you from making claims in the event of an accident, and can get you black listed from insurance companies for “insurance fraud”. So to stay safe, you tell the insurance company about your ig tag sticker, sun strip, and ABS plastic eBay aero parts that add no performance benefits, and then pay them around £3k more because of your £200 upgraded cosmetic mods. That’s if you can even find an insurance company who will let you mod your car, because most of the common/biggest companies do not allow mods at all. So then you turn to special modification insurance companies who will probably charge you £8k off the bat because they know no one else will cover you and they know they can rinse you because you got no choice. Long story short, our law enforcement like to hide behind “Germans have to pay and do an inspection for each mod” but forget to mention that our insurance is unregulated and one of the biggest scams going after taxes. In the end we’ll be paying triple the amount for the same mod. Sorry for the lengthy comment 🤣

      5000 a year, damn. My first car in the Netherlands at 21 was an Alfa Romeo Mito (1.4 with 177hp / 300nm, small tune). And my first year insurance was $1164 and I paid $600 for tax. So in total $1764 for my first year. Tax is related to the car specifically so that won't go down. But my insurance went down to $1080 now that I've had it for a year. I've read before how english people get a corsa with like 80hp and then pay a few grand to insure it and that is frankly insane. Tuning laws are I guess different here again too. I can switch out my brakes, suspension, tires, rims and what not without issue. Exhaust too, but if a cop pulls you over and it is too loud they can impound the car. Officially they can instantly be angry at you for a louder exhaust but generally won't as long as it is not a straight pipe and you don't go crazy around law enforcement from what I heard from a colleague of mine with a custom exhaust on his car. Tuning wise you are good to go to not re-check it with RDW (civil service for road traffic or something translated) as long as a car does not gain more then 20% of it's original power. So you can do a small tune or what not without immediately having it be checked again. We do have a lot of speed cams, red light cams and law enforcement so you do need to watch out. Friend of mine was pulled over in is 340i M-sport just this week though not by the regular police but by our "Royal Military Constabulary". As they though he was kidnapping two girls and was driving fast. Did not get ticketed as he could in fact proof that they where the neighbours kids lol that he was dropping off somewhere. And did not end up ticketed just written up for suspicious activity and driving too fast. So yah you do need to watch out. These guys are also the ones you do not want to mess with if they pull you over. As they often carry machine guns and are far more serious then regular police. Colleague of mine was also pulled over by our border patrol for they thought they may be illegal here. I have been fine so far but I do run a more understated car and do not have foreign plates.

      @Menon9767 I can only agree, thats really interesting to know. I always thought of england as being pretty chill with tuning laws, I didnt know or even consider, that insurance is such a huge pain in the ass. As always YungLimox coming around with the banger insights (:

      @@jilianjing7549 Really interesting getting insights into the experience in the netherlands, seems like you guys hit it pretty good; Chill tuning laws, right next to germany, so you also have access to the Autobahn, not bad not bad. The insurance stuff is pretty much the same over here in Germany, I paid roughly 100 euros per month for my first car and now a little more for my civic, but it aint too bad. Some cars are ridiculously expensive to insure tho. For example an old ej Civic would cost me I think twice the amount im paying for my newer Civic. This is because the insurance rate is based on how many incidents each of these cars has, how often they are stolen and so on

    • @YungLimox
      @YungLimox 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jilianjing7549 here there’s legal loopholes and “glitches”, so to say, around road tax to either pay none or a reduced amount. Theres also some garages who will pass your emissions test for a small fee even if your car is not complicit with emissions standards. But yeh, the insurance thing in UK is absolutely bonkers. Young people end up paying double their cars value for insurance unless they do insurance in an illegal or dodgy way. UK literally forces its citizens to go against the law and commit some sort of fraud to own a vehicle. As for speed cameras or police camping to catch speeders, apps like Waze help a lot to avoid them. But in UK all speed cameras have to have a warning sign earlier on the road to make drivers aware of a camera (we have this system because when speed cameras first came out, the public were against it saying it’s a money grab scheme for the government). For this reason they are always a bright yellow reflective color too but recently they have been adding some hidden ones on motorways.

    I totally agree. I also live in Germany and used to drive a manual Toyota Avenesis 2015. Awesome car, all technology we need and none we do not. Last november I sold it to buy a new car, and chose a Mercedes. At the dealer it looks like an awesome upgrade, but 1 month later I already wanted to sell it. I curse the car every day since, and my wife (who does not drive) asked me to stop complaining - after all, it is a MERCEDES! Oh my god. I swear I will wake up one day, say nothing and just drive to the dealer to get rid of it to get an older car or a „bare-bone“ one. But lesson learned for new cars: rent before buy. Unfortunately new regulations and high mileage of older cars keep me away from going back too much in time

    The best fuel economy is to stay withoin 1 to 2k rpm period dont push the gaspedal further than whats needed, you are wasting fuel then. also remember to kiss the red line once a week to clean the engine :D another thing city driving is worst for economy you should aswell use the start/stop system in the cities if available

    I did money shift once in my Honda Del Sol I used to have, but I caught it before I fully released the clutch and saved it before it revved too far past 8k. Thankfully I don't normally clutch dump when I shift.
