    I appreciate your effort to find connections with the cultures around the Igbo people but it is not an Igbo word. I am from Kalabari in Rivers state. we call our king Amayanabo , three words Ama - yana- bo . Ama means“town or Land” , yana means “ own or owner” and bo means “ person” .

      @@KachiAmobi For us to be classified as Igbo we have to share cultural similarities like language, customs and beliefs which isn’t the case. We share similarities with the ijaw, nembe, okirka , Bonny, finima and the like, but not Igbo. I have never been to any of those place but I can understand them when they speak. But I don’t understand a single word of Igbo. Though I can attest to the fact that there some borrowed Igbo words in to the Kalabari dialect such as the word “spoon” and a few other words, I would attribute this to long term association and trading with the Igbos . A modern day example is the yoruba word for head-tie “gele” has gained popularity as is now replacing the words in other languages. There are some parts of Rivers state that share similarities with Igbo but Kalabari isn’t one.

      I said a part of Kalabari is Igbo but you argued from the angle that the whole IS NOT which is consciously or unconsciously a denial of the right to existence for these people. No problem. Further information gathering and dissemination will put most of this to rest.

    Igbo is not a name or identity applicable to all groups as it is not a general name but a name only given to you by your parents and not a classification done using standard or appropriate consensus methods. In other words you are not telling history but false history, you are only spreading a false lopsided igbo propaganda with impressions and notions from your own mind and ego. Yorubas dont call itsekiris yorubas because its not applicable to them and not a generic classification based on consensus . Go and do a proper research or documentary or branch out to other things entirely if history is not for you

Is it not the state governor and commissioners that are in charge of the whole state? Are Igbos not majority in these positions? So how can they allow this to happen? One more thing, which areas in Rivers state do Ijaw dominate? I know it's too many questions and that is because I am genuinely confused how Igbos have been turned to minority in Bonny.

    • @KachiAmobi
      @KachiAmobi 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In those areas, getting even the smallest documents, assistance or due benefits from the government requires that you present yourself as a full Ijaw man/woman. The Igbo identity is NOT RECOGNISED there. If you present an Igbo name in any official documentation you're putting together then that means you're not interested in that process going through successfully because that your documentation will be thrown in the dustbin once they come across that Igbo name. So the majority Igbo people resign to only identifying with their Igbo names in unofficial settings; in their cultural events and among immediate friends and family. The Ijaws hold down Kalabari in underdevelopment, hold down Bonny too, and have more or less killed off Okrika. They are struggling to hold down Opobo too, but they are not as effective there. So Opobo is flourishing.

    The Ibani people are of Ijaw ethnic group who live along with the Igbo speaking people in the Bonny and Opobo areas of Rivers State, Nigeria, on the Atlantic coast. Bonny town is the tribal seat of the Ibani which is located on the bight of Bonny River. Ibani language is spoken predominantly by residents of Bonny and Opobo. Igbo is also widely spoken amongst the people and considered a general language. [citation needed] Bonny's development was also shaped by the tribe's close interaction with European traders.[1] The Kingdom of Bonny was a major trading center[2] from the 16th century onwards; initially trading in slaves, its people were later known for the exportation of palm oil and palm kernel.[3] The indigenes of the Bonny and Opobo kingdoms are collectively known as the Ibani people.[4] The Ibani language is widely spoken. Historically, Bonny engaged in several wars against its nearby rivals, such as Elem Kalabari, Obolo people or Andoni.[5] Some Ibani settlements include: Finima, Abalama, Oloma, and Kuruama.[

    Story of King Jaja In his youth, Jaja was kidnapped from Igboland possibly by Aro's[3] and sold into slavery. He was then brought to Ijawland thereafter. As was customary amongst the Ijaw, Jaja earned his way out of slavery after serving his master for a number of years. At the death of his master, he took charge of the trade and went on to head the Anna Pepple House merchant faction of Bonny. Under him, Annie Pepple absorbed other trade houses until a war with the Manilla Pepple House led by Oko Jumbo compelled Jaja to break away to establish Opobo Kingdom (26 miles east of Bonny) in 1869.[4] "Oko Jumbo and Ja Ja were looked upon by every one as being the rulers of Bonny."[5] Opobo came to be a prominent trading post in the region's palm oil trade. Jaja barred entry to European and African middlemen, effectively monopolizing trade, and by 1870 was selling eight thousand tons of palm oil directly to the British. Opobo also shipped palm oil directly to Liverpool. Despite his trade rivalry with the Europeans, Jaja sent his children to schools in Glasgow and enlisted whites to staff the secular school he built in Opobo. He barred any missionaries from entering Opobo.[6] At the 1884 Berlin Conference the Europeans designated Opobo as British territory. When Jaja refused to cease taxing the British traders, Henry Hamilton Johnston, a British vice consul, invited Jaja for negotiations in 1887. Jaja was arrested on arrival aboard a British vessel; he was tried in Accra in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) then exiled, first to London, and later to Saint Vincent and Barbados in the British West Indies.[7][8] His presence in the West Indies was alleged to be the cause of civil unrest, as the people of Barbados, of African descent, were upset at the poor treatment of a King from their homeland.[4] In 1891, Jaja was granted permission to return to Opobo, but died en route.[9] Following his exile and death, the power of the Opobo state rapidly declined.[4] In 1903 the King Jaja of Opobo Memorial was erected in his honour in Opobo town centre. The grave of Nigerian Prince Waribo, son of King Jaja of Opobo is in the churchyard at St Laurence Parish Church, Frodsham, Cheshire. Prince Waribo was sent to Frodsham to be educated at Manor House School. He died from inflammation of the lungs on 21st April 1882. There are 2 white arrows indicating the way to the Prince's grave. One at the entrance opposite the Ring O,'Bells and the other further down the pathway showing the direction to his grave. It has no headstone but there is an inscription on the edging stone. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaja_of_Opobo

    Oga you are spreading misinformation, go and learn about the history. Opobo is Ijaw and most of Port Harcourt. The Igbo came there as result of slave trade, those deem unhealthy were dropped by the white men and these trend continues till the Igbo population increased in PH. Have you asked yourself why most Ikwerre people said they are not Igbos? They are still angry because they were sold as slave. I will really advise you and your viewers to go and read about the history of Bonny and King Jaja of Opobo the slave whom later became King. He was adapted by the Ijaw king of Opobo and he became the crown prince because the King had no heir, the speaking of Igbo in Bonny was highly influenced by Jaja. Just go read before you create enemity between Ijaws and the Igbos. Biafra name was given by an Ijaw man in PH, to tell you Ijaws have no issues with Igbos. This kind of narrative of yours won't help Biafra.

    How people will just sit down and claim others as their own baffles me because English is Nigeria's formal Language, which does not make all Nigerians citizens of the UK by origin, Because Francophone African Countries speak French does not make them French citizens, but how someone who went to school would conclude that because a group of people speaks Igbo therefore they must be Igbo, without attempting to find out about their origin and possible contact that led to them speaking Igbo.

    • @KachiAmobi

      You don't earn a Dei title. But I will not argue your position. The Dei title "they gave" to him still means God (in Latin) according to the oral history you're explaining. Also Ebonka is a recent figure in Agbor history generally to be the reason hundreds of Igbo communities are named with Dei. One thing that is interesting about the Ebonka history though is the story's emphasis on his link to North Africa (and by extension Rome/the Middle East?). Are we not generally saying the same thing from two perspectives. Interesting huh? All the same thanks a lot.

We are very unique in our own ways. This is why all the debates can't stop bcos Igbos have failed to understand us. Migration is forward and backwards movements. Most people around oguta area of imo sate claim that their ancestors are from Ukwuani, why some people in Ukwuani also claim that their ancestors are from Igbo. This is a balanced and that is why both groups share lot in common... This is why we are supposed to respect our neighbors, but you Igbo will rather brag that everyone came from you. How is that possible?. Let's respect our individual differences to that we can flow together as Brothers and ethnic relatives. Wow, great sharing again. This is so informative, I appreciate. Learning Igbo, I was confused about this, because the Igbo Izugbe I learned in standardization never sounded like what I heard from various Igbos around me, anywhere. Nobody I encountered uses it, not even my parents. So I just figured that Igbos generally understand each other through compromise, so I listened to observe this and found it was true. It's amazing how Igbo of Anambra metropolitan area developed naturally seems to be the most widely understood till today. Although I would argue that the "Central Igbo" used by Ida C Ward still shares more patterns in common with the dialects of Imo State. Though it was not widespread as you said, and it was rather silly in retrospect to base Igbo Izugbe originally on Ward's artificial form, since it was such a limited area. My contention, however, is that I've come to learn that Igbo Izugbe today includes more from Igbo, as it has Anambra, Isu, Umuahia, and various loan words from different dialects.

    Thank you sir for this amazing research, it's so insightful. Please, I have a question. Do you know the exact names of the towns that Ida C. Ward claimed she extracted her Central Igbo from? I know she said she went to the Ezinehite/Ezinihitte group of Igbo between Owerri and Umuahia, but I have not been able to find the names of the towns, because they were not specified in the sources I read. My guess is that she went to what is today's Ezinihitte Mbaise, because that place is literally between Umuahia and Owerri as she described, but I am not certain on this. Please share if you have some idea, or have mentioned it somewhere else. God bless.

    • @KachiAmobi
      @KachiAmobi หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I haven't seen records that state the exact communities visited. But by estimation, as you've rightly pointed out, it should be the Mbaise area. What was mentioned in specific terms was her use of the Ohuhu dialect(s) from the Umuahia side. So that's our information at this time. Thanks again.

    Brother Kachi Amobi, I have watched your videos about Igbo identity on the Riverine Igbo in Rivers and western Igbo of Delta. You are doing a good job 👏 . However, the linguistic relationship between Igbo, Sumerians, Ancient Egyptian, and the Hebrew Israelites is enormous, and you need to have one understanding first on the modern Hebrew language and how it came about. This is because the ancient languages of both the Sumerians and Egyptians are extinct/lost. So, how come we have modern Hebrew ???? I was made to understand that the creators of the modern Hebrew dis that with consonant words alone. This made me investigate the few Hebrew words in the Bible. Example; Ebenezer = Ebe na za ra (Where he answered). I read the story, and I came to understand that samuel was marking a place where they got the victory with a stone. In Igbo Ebe is place/where /location Zara is answer. When you google translate the words, Ebe na za ra = it means where he answered. Sumerians, Ancient Egyptian, and Hebrew spoke Igbo. Yes, they returned to Igbo land after experiencing persecutions from Europe to Asia and East Africa. They returned back to the land of the rising sun, the place the ancient Egyptians called home. Hallelujah = Ha le le elu Ya ( They looked/ look up to Him) 'To look up to' means to show respect, gratitude, etc. Which in turn means praise. Pls google for reference. The consonants for Mary is mry. Amara Ya is the real name of Mary. Melchizedek = Amalachi eze dike Canaan= Oke nna( the portion of the father Abiama) I have over 50 sentences turned into words by the modern Hebrews speakers.

    Thank God for the past researches that had taken place. Your Anambra/Enugu Igbo is NOT the central Igbo my dear brother. Infact, there WAS NO CENTRAL IGBO as Igboland with its governments and trade, was NOT CENTRALIZED at ANY point in time. So you pitting 'Central Igbo' vs 'Igbo Izugbe' makes no sense. What she is saying is not farfetched. I one travels to Igala mela around Uzo Uwani in Enugu State, it is hard to distinguish between an Igala person residing around the area and an Igbo. This is because the Igala of the area speaks perfect Igbo like any Igbo speaking person.
