😢
David thank you.
❤
A gorgeous fable from the immortal Oscar.
Great story.
I feel cheated. Thought it was in Welsh
Nice read of it.
Dear Oscar.
A beautiful story beautifully read, David - thank you very much!
I'm glad I was born in the time period where stories ended happily. Jokes aside it's quite a pretty and melancholy tale.
Bravo! I've very much enjoyed your recordings
i am so glad i found your channel. your videos are amazing. thank you for your work!
Ver nice reading, thank you the narrator. The whole Mabinogion read by David Reid would be excellent.
I'm pleased that you enjoyed the First Book of the Mabinogion . I have recorded all four Books if you'd like to further explore my TH-cam Chanel......I hope you are able to enjoy the other Books ?
Still waiting for that fifth Branch Wales...
It's the story of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sinners! What a beautiful way of telling this story! Magical!! What a genius writer! I loved this story.
Pwyll is pronounced "Pwythh" with a stronger emphasis on the H and the L is barely if at all annunciated. Same with Glyn Cuch, "Keethh". Nobody expects you to speak the language like a pro, but at least try with the proper nouns.
How can you say that Pwyll is pronounced 'Pwythh'? There's no 'th' sound in the word at all. It's uniquely Welsh (and I suspect you're not) and is an aspirated 'L'. David Reid gets it almost right. He just needs the 'wy' to be sounded (a very short 'oowee' sound). Same with Cuch -- no 'th' sound at all. Pronounced like the 'ch' in the Scottish 'loch'. You could at least try with the proper nouns yourself...
Great story. And the moral of the story is to trust people nor to underestimate them. After all, if God loves the simple folks, who are we mere mortals to contradict him.
This breaks my heart
Thank you so much for making this so many Mabinogi audio books over do it but this is perfect, you have an amazing calm voice to listen to!
A meaningful piece. With so many available preventatives, it’s hard to understand the reluctance to seek them out.
I’m so glad to find your audiobooks on You Tube! You have a kind voice and read well.
One year later and you made me weep again. Oh, how I love this story, and how perfectly you read it.
Interesting. A very similar story to the Wife of Bath's Tale by Chaucer.
A fool is those who is easily offended that line fits so well today
Why isn't the mabinogion in the Welsh folk law section as it's a really really old Welsh book that a Spanish women translated as Evan the Welsh couldn't figure out the older Welsh dialect. Took a Spanish women who was essentially a professional linguist (think that's the right word anyway lol)
No need to become a victim for the boobies.
It was a fantastic read, it was like I was in the story!!
Amazing this is so hard to find thank you I can sleep now keep em coming
What beautiful storytelling, just came across your channel and I’m hooked. You are my new bedtime listening, your soothing voice conjures the magic of our Welsh legends and fairytales. Diolch yn fawr
This is the most uninspired rendition of this story I have heard
Thank you for this wonderful reading of these amazing Welsh tales.
The narration is crystal clear, which I really appreciate.
Great voice, really enjoyed, just a shame you changed the names and places, is there a reason for this? Pwyll, Arawn, Annwn Would be nice to hear it with the original names
I'm so sorry about my pronunciation......I grew up in Pembrokeshire in a Grammar School that taught French and Spanish but no Welsh !
Ara-oon and An-oon
What Pwyll didn't know, was he came back sterile. You can't travel to the land of the dead and come back whole.
Owl Service...
Just look out for plates in your attic…..
I truly needed this book read well and I Thankyou fondly.
And it's' Llyn Tegid' not Baalaa Lake
🔥
Nice book
i don't understand the concept of "only a mother can give a baby a name" anyone can give anyone and anything any name at any time and for any reason, people do it literally all the time, and what if the mother dies during labor? why can't the father give a name? why wouldn't the father take naming precedence for that matter? such bewildering social mores the ancient welsh seemed to have had
there is nosuch word as mabinogion. pronounce the name properly...Pwyll
It is MABINOGI. The Four Branches of the Mabinogi
THat's a bit harsh on someone who grew up in Pembrokeshire without Welsh being taught in school(s)
The Nightingale and the Rose
The Selfish Giant
Is there a part 2 sir?
Moral of the story: if it smells like fish; eat that dish.
Obviously straight over the top of your head...oh well
@thinking102 explain it to me in simple terms or admit that you're a pretentious pseudo intellect that flexes imaginary brain muscle at strangers on the internet for fun.
@@thinking102 says the person who can't differentiate between an opportunity to judge and insult strangers on youtube and a joke.
Thank you for reading
My personal take is that bluedwedd never wanted to wed they simply assumed since lleu had an awful mother replacing her with a woman made of flowers would have sufficed and so she loved gronw as an equal not as an ersatz caregiver.
Excellent story. Thank You
Excellent. Thank you.
