Elvis thought, "Blue Moon of Kentucky," the anthem of one of his idols, Bill Monroe, would be his first hit. It turned out that over time the public liked "That's All Right" more but Elvis was proud of his twist on this Bluegrass standard. He was a little taken aback when the Grand Ole Opry audience didn't respond and nervous when he went backstage and saw its creator Bill Monroe. This is what ...

Drew Pearson Tackles the Elvis Controversy
You should have stayed with him!! You are so beautiful compared to Prissy! I loved the film of you and Elvis on the boat!
#Elvis didn’t have blue eyes! Just another wanna be capitalizing on #Elvis🙄
June wasn't lying. Elvis's eyes were blue - a very rare brilliant light blue which appears in less than 1% of the population. He also had a unique starburst pattern or limbal ring where the blue irises faded into the whites of his eyes. His eye color appeared in different hues depending on the lighting, the angle from which they were viewed, and even his emotional state. However, he did wear brown contact lenses for his role in Flaming Star.
Love June. Her book is written so well.
Black people are allowed not to like elvis or disregard him as the king.
I love this she is so charming
I was there last year, just me and my wife. As a lifelong Elvis fan (since Hound Dog/Don’t Be Cruel), it was absolutely surreal. One neighbor did walk by with his dog. I guess I expected some kind of Southern friendliness (being from the Northeast)…not a chance, I guess the snootiness never left.
He chose her . This was a great story. Then the manager and all got control of Elvis.
While she was dating someone...nice
That’s a beautiful story , so romantic .He treated all his girl friends as if they were special, that’s my conclusion, no one speaks bad of him.
June super look!!👍i envy Elvis!!🌷
I thought Drew Pearson Olathe football in 1989?
What was this?
By the time the cameras filmed Pearson for this episode, in April of 1957, this is what Elvis Presley had done with his life, in terms of work directly related to his PROFESSIONAL accomplishments. He had performed in 624 shows, in 150 cities in 37 states of the then 49 states of the Union, He had completed 23 DIFFERENT recording session, yielding 84 of his eventual 714 recordings. He had appeared 13 times on national television for two out of the three networks, garnering some 270 million cumulatve viewers, appearing live from Studio 50 &the Hudson Theater, in NY, as well as Television City and the deck of the USS Hancock, in the West Coast. Finally, he had completed two major motion pictures for two of Hollywood's most important studios, and taken a single 20 day vacation (June 1956), during the preceeding 24 months, namely in the period from July of 1954 to May of 1957. No one in the world worked harder than Elvis Presley, not in those 24 months. Pearson didnt know what he was talking about, in terms of the work Presley did to get where he got. And he mostly travelled by car, by bus, and by train.
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this. Elvis was TCB from the beginning.
@@carolluking Many thanks. To this day, I know of no one doing 314 shows in a year, as Elvis did in 1955. And here is a testament to his resillience and valour. In the first days of May, 1955, Elvis and the future Johnny Cash wife June Carter, along with many othgers, were touring Louisiana. By chance one of the top surgeins in the world, Alton Oschner, decided to back the second version of the Jonas Salk polio vaccine by injecting it in his two grankids. He did so at Tulane, in front of the Board of Trustees. The boy died and the girl got polio for life which was reported ñocally first and at the NYT on 5/5/55. What a date. Elvis read about this because by the time he faced the polio vaccine in October of the year after, he was scared, rally scared. . He only confided his fear yo one person, a beautiful teen who interviewed him for TV Guide during the vaccine moments, and she thought it was needles what scared him. because he did not tell her about the Oscher incident happening in the same city he was tourng, right there and then., Oschner was my famly's doctor for over 50 years. Please read this article, now knowing what I researshed, which escaped all his biographers, even Guralnick. how could he miss it? Well, Oschner was not his family's doctor so when I saw the dates, read the artcle by the Ladt, I added 2 and 2 is 4. Enjoy. classicchicagomagazine.com/where-were-you-when-elvis-died/
I love June. An amazing lady.
Wow. Great footage.
Boy was this guy wrong! ✨👑✨💙
Cool, what an experience to witness and memories to have and share. 🕺
Love You Elvis Presley forever
She is lovely! I have a 1956 magazine with an article featuring their romance. The ladies room story depicted in the article is a little difference from hers. Many journalists twist stories just to fit their narrative. It's a cool article, but this interview is way better! :)
Mighty checks coming in, back in the day.
If my memory serves after the Prom she told him she could not see a future with him. In the reference to this night, Elvis was devastated. He told Billy and did not talk too much to anyone for 3 days. My question was how could Dixie keep her head about her in his loving presence. She survived and had a happy marriage to a loving man who came home from work to be with her when he heard the news of Elvis' passing.
This is definitely a rare find. So much of similar content all through Rock’s history has either been erased, destroyed or is with zealous private collectors. I hope more content like this can be unearthed, the Beatles in 1964 being critiqued by the “older generation” as well.
It had to be very uncomfortable for Elvis doing some of the things that the army requires them to do with the cameras rolling. Elvis wasn't only the best entertainer of all time but he was a model soldier. According to his superiors the only time that they had a problem with Elvis was when his Momma got real sick and he threatened to go awol if they didn't give him a pass so he could go and see her. I am glad that he made it to Memphis and that he got to see Gladys before she passed away.
Timeless Elvis Presley!!
And for the conclusion of the story, when Elvis got back home and found out how “greatly offended” the surrounding neighbors were, about “his kind”, he said “Hell, if the whole neighborhood’s so damn uppity about my family living on their street than we don’t need to be getting the Hell one of here how!”
Elvis couldn't buy his neighbor's out because The Colonial took most of Elvis's Money 😁 $
I wonder if Elvis was performing at Gus Stevens in Biloxi at that time. ( 1955 - 56 )
This silly man and his crooked mustache is gone and forgotten.
Let’s ask black people who actually knew Elvis if he was racist. th-cam.com/video/Z_dqfeYWsXc/w-d-xo.html
I watched the video that Globetrotting with Trey on TH-cam did about Elvis and June. It's really good, and the home movies that June's Dad did of Elvis fishing is really good. Elvis had her Dad to take them out the following weekend so Elvis could take his Moma and Daddy with them. It shows Gladys bringing Elvis peanut and banana sandwiches to eat while Elvis is fishing. Their love story is so beautiful and bittersweet. Elvis is the best, hands down!
Who cares about Elvis lol he’s dead and in hell
Have you ever heard of any star that affected women the way Elvis did? All these decades later this lovely lady is still under his spell. Elvis was supernaturally attractive.
All his exs still brings him up even his fans that had the chance to kiss him in his concerts wrote books about him Was it his supernatural attractiveness or people back then were obsessing over fame
Elvis never ever was racist .....the real racists is the people that made up this garbage!
Haters like public enemy hating on Elvis because of pure jealously.
He regretted letting you go June..he as much as said so in latter years..😉😥
over 1 billion records sold, sold more 45s than the beatles,18 number1 hits watch Elvis the king of kindness and Elvis in the black cummunity thats all u need to know about the King folks!
Aww I loved them too together! I’m reading the book and it’s so good!

Parker gets too much credit for Elvis’ success. Elvis was driving ppl to screaming fits before Parker came along. He had that special something.
All lies. Elvis…aside from his skin color…WAS Black!
There alparently was a class difference between the Presley's and the other people on Audoban Drive. The Presley's had class and the other people in the neighborhood didn't.

Her book is my favorite Elvis book and definitely the best gf book. On its own it's a beautiful and bittersweet love story. You don't have to be an Elvis fan to enjoy it. All the songs peppered in the book I made into a soundtrack and just listen to. So many of these songs have a different meaning to me now thanks to this book. The book is also so well written, it makes you feel like you've travelled back in time, back to the 50s. I feel so melancholic and nostalgic for the 50s and I was born after Elvis passed. I'm rereading her book again and I just read it 3 months ago! I think I'll keep rereading this every year. Wish she did an audiobook as well of it!
@Cheryl Spencer the thing is June didn't fight for him either. Despite the Colonel and Nick he still wanted her by his side. He begged her to go to NY with him when she said no, he begged her to go to Memphis, she still said no. When reading you'll see elvis constantly making up with her and begging her to go with him or stay with him. June always goes off on her own or gets tired of his lifestyle even after only 9 days. He probably grew tired of always begging and making up with someone who seems like they don't want to be there. Add both the Colonel and Nick in his ear trying to break them up. He was fighting on all fonts and June leaves all the time, she used the first opportunity or problem to break up with him maybe because of her own insecurity with her dad. So who knows?
It's been said that his manager used Nick as his spy for ELVIS, as to keep control of his relationship with JUNE.
@@Cynthia00007 Yes, June relates this in her book, I side eye that guy
It's BS stop this BS,he had black back up singers when racism was at a all time high,it's rumors from racist people who didn't like him because he wasn't racist, the king forever with a voice of gold!!!!!go watch Elvis in the black community people!
My grandpa said he is but I don’t believe him
I think he forgot this guy could really sing.
