This hummingbird seemed to be really enjoying the shower we have in the birdbath.

Sunny day so I could set the camera to 1/5000 second shutter speed, running at 15 frames per second. First 24 seconds is normal speed and then replayed at 1/4 speed.
Barred Owl Juvenile chasing mice July 2024

There's been a couple juvenile Barred Owls hanging around learning to hunt. This owl missed both mice. The mice hid in some hollow spots under the bricks beneath some Minnetonka bird feeders.

The Barred Owl family has been hanging around our backyard woods and we've been seeing and hearing the owlets. It seems that there are at least 4 juveniles.

The Canadian Pacific 2816 on its Final Spike Steam Tour. Watched it May 2, 2024 passing through Hamel MN. (unfortunately lost the sound on the first portion) Officially, the train is now the CPKC 2816 (Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern), but we still think of it as the CP 2816.
Flying Squirrels prepping for the eclipse?

The news says to stock up before the eclipse, so that must be why the flying squirrels were eating so much. Right? That feeder started the evening with about 1 pound of food, mostly peanuts but also sunflower seeds, and they have it almost cleaned out. Or maybe it's cool and starting to rain. Anyway, it's fun watching these little critters.

People often wonder why everyone in Duluth/Superior makes such a huge fuss about ships coming and going. It's simply because there's literally NOTHING else to do up there that isn't alcohol related.

The Barker has two Tyfons on the roof of the bridge that produce the notes B-flat and E-flat producing a D# Power chord with a major 3rd. Very very pretty.

That ship has the best horn
I know all you shipfans LOVE those salutes but imagine owning a home close by and being woke up frequently in the middle of the night or early morning every day! Some of you might feel differently. Ditto for the railfans who get excited by locomotives constantly blowing the horn thru town but don't think about those living there. The ship horns are not too bad, its that bridge horn that is deafening because its a higher pitch than the ship horns.
