Girl, I feel you. But you're beautiful. As a mature black woman living in the States, we stand out and sometimes, not in a negative way. It depends on where you are and where you live. The staring at people isn't acceptable in the States. But once one moves abroad, some people and certain cultures are curious about Black people living in their community. It's not easy. But just make the best of it and be safe
you come to vietnam at the right time, this time of the year is when vietnam is the most festive, weather also in the best season, have fun ^^
Thank you so much for this
of course!
You go girl
Thank you!!
wellcome to Viet Nam ^^
Thank you so much!
Interesting! I haven't experienced much catcalling in the last few years (not in big cities or small towns, where it used to be a several times a day affair).
I'm going there for one week, I need place to sleep for free😂
❤❤❤❤❤ from Việt Nam
Thank you!! ✨
welcome to VN
Thank you!✨
This is so wholesome and lovely. Love your vlogs ❤🎉❤😊
Aw thank you so much ✨
Please take care of yourself in the North...you don't exactly look like the other Western expats, so you may have some challenges or get that super cold treatment. You go girl 💪🏿
Thank you! 🙏🏿
Which city in Vietnam are you in? feel very strange
Ha Giang!
That is Vietnamese culture when honking right behind you. That means “ hello…i am behind you in case you don’t know and make a sudden move so I cannot react and maybe hit you” simple like that.
Ah got it, thank you!
amen to the intro alone!! blessings on you on your journey. enjoy and shine everyday!!!
Thank you so much ✨✨
1:53 what language is this ??
Spanish!
Banh mì is a street food. People do not order them in a restaurant
Got it! Thank you
We love you 🎉❤🎉❤
Aw 💕✨
I love seeing Black American women traveling the world. Enjoy!
Thank you 🌸
The puppies are so cute.
I know right 🤧
"Banh mi " is street food, rarely in the restaurant.
You look so beautiful when you smile. I longed for your video after your first video in Vietnam. I enjoy joining your journey 😂 One thing to note, even if they accept card, international transaction fee is charged for each transaction. I was charged $5 by my credit card for transaction fee for a bottle of water of $3.
Aw thank you so much, I appreciate you joining me on this journey 🤧 And wow thats crazyyy, I have an international card that doesnt charge fees for foreign transactions. that would add up quickk!
I’m having fun on your journey! 😂
Aw thank you!
I am a mexican man thank you for choosing mexico i belive that we need more migration not only to contribute to our economy but also contribute to our culture. I am a well educated man who has had the chance to be with many women. Including polish, usa white girl, and black American. I live in Mexico. It has nothing do with your video but i still wanted to mention it. By the way gentifrication is not a problem in my mind, its a free economy. Landlords can choose to sell or leasee to whom ever they choose. The catcalling i believe its a México city thing. Because poeple from other parts of mexico dont do it. I took from koreans the habbit of intetionally looking away from pretty women as to not make them feel uncomfortable.
Thank you for your comment
Girl yes i am Mexican American, Mexican men are infamous for cat calling and staring. It’s annoying
Lol girl why are you fixed on Bun mi. It's been very westernized, it's not the same. You're going to resturants asking for street food. It's like going to RCH asking for hotdogs bc it's American food.
😭 thats my bad lol thank you for letting me know
@Tolu.Travels lol no worries love your content!!!!!! Try their seafood and try a food tour. It will be great content.
beauty lady
thank you!
Neither do I, and I was born here
Your content is attractive, and so are you!
aw thank you!
The cat was on the counter crawling in the plates and amongst the food. 🤮🤢 I loved my experience in Vietnam BUT cleanliness was a huge issue for me.
🙊😭 understandable
As a Mexican i can tell you where this whole "go back to your country" issue comes from. This will be a bit long, but look: what bothers Mexicans about many foreigners moving to CDMX, is that thanks to their dollars/euros and higher power of acquisition, prices are getting UNPAYABLE for locals, making their lives harder and strugglers bigger. Another thing, is many tourists, as you say, come forever on a tourist permit that they renew by going out and coming back in (don't know if this is your case, but you definitely made it sound like it is), and that's NOT the right and legal way to do it, at least not if you plan to LIVE longterm (meaning: anything longer than 6 months) in CDMX. The right way should be to get a proper VISA or PERMIT to work and live there, a.k.a documents! Which is what the US blames us for over there, for being "illegal" and "undocumented" immigrants, while Americans are doing the same in Mexico but no one talks about it. Many are also undocumented and illegal "tourists/expats" (a.k.a immigrants) for a lifetime, while this is unthinkable the other way around. Do you have an actual visa to live in Mexico? Also a problem coming with not being officially registered as a foreign resident with an actual visa in Mexico is: they, therefore, pay no taxes in Mexico. They continue to pay taxes in their native countries, so we literally get no profit from having them all here. Whilst Mexicans living in the USA for example, MUST pay taxes even if they're not "legally" there. Americans can live illegally in our country and skip paying taxes, but GOD FORBID we do the same the other way around. We constantly get told to "go back to our countries" and "speak english" in the USA (which yes, it also happens in Europe and Asia, i've seen it happen), so some people just wanna give "expats" using the country, a taste of their own medicine. We also want people to be legal here and speak Spanish. Because we know some Americans/Europeans aren't in Mexico for any other reason, than to profit from all the good things our country offers, like beaches, sun and the cheaper prices, but not really to help us grow, develop and move further... that's the issue. They take, but they don't give back, not even through their taxes. You see the issue and where the hate is coming from? Now, all this said, I'm not saying this is the way I, myself, particularly think and I don't wanna be mean or disrespectful in any way, shape or form. We also know not EVERY single foreign person in Mexico is like this. But I did wanna explain why, so that Mexicans are also understood on the issue. Cause it really isn't nice to have your country be used, while the other way around we just get rocks (and "walls") thrown at us from the States. I hope you understand the point. And I wanted to add that YES, the catcalling problem is sadly something DISGUSTING we just have to live with 🤮... and it sucks. I don't know how it started, but there is definitely no end to it. And if you could actually UNDERSTAND what these men say as one walks by! 😩 Girl, be glad you don't!
Quiet time with Jesus is the best start to the day 🙌🏾 those mountain views are beautiful and so happy to see your enjoying your time there 💕 I also get stressed crossing the streets here 🥹 you are not alone lol
Haha hopefully it'll get easier for us! Thank you 🌸✨
They have banh mi in the morning and evening not afternoon
That makes so much sense, thank you
25:15 love the background music, and your content too :P
Thank you ☺️✨
"Cam on ban" is also right way to say Thank you. It's only used with that person is about the same age with you.
Oh thank you so much!! 🙏🏿
The mountain views are amazing 😍 and the city/ town is very different than I imagined. I'm glad to see you enjoyed your first full day. After all that hiking, you'll be super snatched by the end of the month
Sis thats what Im sayinnng hahah already added it to my workout schedule😅 Thank youuu🌸
Honking behind you in Vietnam is actually a normal thing, they just want to signal you that they are behind you and to be careful on the road... Vietnamese people are quite friendly, especially with foreigners, and not as easily angered as you think.
Got it, thank you for sharing ✨
Hebrews 13:8 🔥🔥🔥
Can't wait to live in Vietnam vicariously through you 💖
Aw thank you lovely 🌸✨
I remember Da Nang 🙂. Vietnam is in my top 5 best countries that I have visited. I am due for another visit.
Its now on my list, I need to check it out!
Bánh mì is all over the Saigon area In ha Giang is very hard to find The video 👍👍👍 Enjoy your time there and be safe 👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!! I'll definitely have to try it when I travel down south
@ don’t miss out banh mi ( huynh hoa)👍👍👍👍👍👍
Another famous coffee in VN now is Bạc Xỉu (coffee with condensed and fresh milk), the taste is lighter than Cà phê sữa đá, but still strong enough for the morning, i think you can try it!
Ooo okay Ill keep my eye out for this!!
I dont know why but a lot of VNameses are obsessed with runny eggs (trứng lòng đào), so if you prefer fully cooked eggs you can tell them: trứng chín kỹ please. Have a nice day!
Ah okay thanks for the tip! ✨ you too
Where do you live now in Viet Nam. Do you plan to stay in Vietnam long term?
I have subscribed your channel. Well come to Viet Nam. Im vietnamese. I wiss you the best.
Thank you so much!
Where did you meet your friends? Im trying to make new friends before my long Vietnam trip!
At the hostel Im volunteering at!
The banh mi You have in state is the style of banh mi from the south of Vietnam. Ha giang is way up north so the way they makes banh mi there might be different and can taste quite different from the banh mi You eat in state
Ah got it, thank you!
@ oh and banh my translate to bread in Vietnamese so you might want to say “banh my kep thit” . I would just show them the picture for reference. Or ask local or foreigner who has bee there for awhile. They probably know some good spots for banh my.
What you got for breakfast was bánh mì chảo, literally “frying pan bánh mì.” Bánh mì really just means bread, so there’s a lot of different ways people like to eat it. The typical sandwich style of bánh mì is more of a southern thing, which is why it’s the best (almost only?) known type in the US; most of the Vietnamese here are from the South. That’s not to say that it’s not ever made up north, but you’ll usually find that at stands specialize in it. (You can also find bánh mì chảo in Saigon; it was one of my favorite breakfasts there.) But every area also has its favorite types. Also yeah, what some others said about crossing the street. Watch some locals do it. Find your opening, then walk out slowly and steadily, and try and maintain eye contact with oncoming people. Keep a steady pace so you’re predictable; they’ll be able to drive around you. Don’t stop, and especially don’t panic and run, that will be unexpected and can lead to an accident. I was hesitant at first but got a friend to take me across a couple times to get the hang of it.
Since you expressed interest in knowing how to speak with people (good for you!), here’s a little Vietnamese guidance: Usually phrasebooks give the most basic/safe/neutral ways of saying things. That’s fine but sometimes they come across a little formal or just “flat.” Vietnamese uses pronouns a lot in greetings and other expressions. Because pronouns are a bit complex, you’ll often see words like “tôi” and “bạn” for “I” and “you,” but it’s better to look at those as “placeholders” for the appropriate pronoun once you start learning them. If you’re going to be there a while, it’s really worth taking a little time to learn them. And don’t worry too much about making a mistake, people will understand that you’re trying and they’ll like that! For example, for “thank you,” “cảm ơn” is absolutely fine. But it’s always nicer to use a pronoun/kinship term. For a lady your mom’s age you could say “cảm ơn cô” (thanks auntie) and it’s much friendlier. “Bạn” literally means “friend,” but it also serves as sort of a “safe not-too-formal-but-polite” pronoun for people who you don’t know yet 36:07 , but could conceivably be a friend, especially someone around your age group. As a customer you could also say “cảm ơn nha” - “nha” is just a word you can add to make things more polite/gentle. (It’s usually added when you’re asking someone to do something, or suggesting something.) You’ll also hear “nhe.” (cảm ơn literally just means “feel obligation,” kind of like saying “much obliged.) Also xin chào is kind of formal-polite. (Xin literally means “request; it’s a word you’d use more in formal situations where you need to show respect.) Xin chào is always okay and as a foreigner you’re just fine with it but Vietnamese people don’t really use it all that much. Usually people will say “chào+[kinship term]. So chào followed by anh (older brother), chị (older sister), “cô” (aunt) “chú” (uncle), “bà” (grandma), “ông” (grandfather), “em” (younger brother or sister), and “cháu” for a person young enough to be your nephew or niece. If you use those, people will appreciate you! The sort of confusing part is, once you establish what your ages are, you also refer to _yourself_ with those terms. So if you’re taking with someone you call “aunt,” (cô) you’ll call yourself “niece” (cháu) Or talking with someone close enough in age to be an older sister (chi), you’ll call yourself “younger sister” (em). There are other ones for when you’re good friends with someone but I’ve already probably made your head explode already, so I’ll stop now. 😊
Not really. In the north, people usually serve banh mi in street food stalls, not in local restaurant. The one she got is not banh mi chảo. It’s just bánh mì and egg separately
Omg wow! This was amazing, thank you for taking the time to write this out and explain. I will try using some of this when Im out today, thank you!! ✨
I am heading to Da Nang Vietnam. Have you ever heard of Da Nang ?
That's a great city. You will love it. I was there once and will come back.
Hearing more about it now, enjoy
love the video, thinking of roaming Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia for 3months. I love it when you two laugh and giggle :) subscribed
