I've been plagued by something like a dark soul when I was very young & yet I didn't see it when it left me. I just felt great when it was gone. It's as if they attach themselves to the nervous system. Keep good habits if you can, you'll discourage these things. I don't know what they are but they will attack or flee when confronted.
