Why avoid using the word 'colonised'? The Saxons colonised Britannia (which they renamed England after taking it over) for the same reason that modern migrants are colonising England now. They want the wealth of the place for themselves. There was war then, cf. Seems every culture have some of brainwashing for their people so they throw away their lives to protect their kings. Western people had chivalry & crusaders..
