Too much talking.
thank you, it is lovely!
Thank you for this informative video. I have a question: is it possible to create some texture with clear tar gel? For example, will it maintain brush strokes after it has dried?
Actually, it's the Bernoulli effect. Used also to inject fuel into pistons in engines.
Simply pour the tar gel into the squeeze receptacle using a funnel.
I use a large opening syringe, I have mine in the tiniest writer bottles!!
I am so glad I found this nice tutorial, TFS
I am delighted that you found it useful😊
Unfortunately, I can't understand how to spray anything out of an atomizer. I blow and only air comes out. How does it work physically?
Hair supply companies make squeeze bottles with very large openings that hair dressers use. A store like Sallys
thank you!!!! so informative & clearly presented
Great tutorial! And it's amazing how your husband made that atomizer just perfect for you!
dope
Thank you, Jo!
Hello, how are you doing?
I'm so sorry to hear about your accident!! You look fabulous and I hope you are fully recovered!
Hi Jo! Thank you for this video! This product with the fluid is quite expensive for such a small amount. And you can't refill it, correct? I'm wondering how long a bottle lasts you?
You are most welcome. You can buy refills for the masking pen and they use to run around $6. I am not sure what they run currently. I am emailing you some info on an alternative! Thanks so much!
Great tips, Jo! Thank you!
You are most welcome!
Thank you, Jo! I just ordered mine! The only thing I'm missing here is the angle you talked about. It looks like you are working flat in this video vs. using the roll of paper towels as an angle?
I didn't use an angle in this video because the camera was directly above me and I wanted the shot to be clear. Otherwise I always work with the painting tilted at an angle as I describe. Thanks!

Sir shoping not available
Hi Jo, How can I purchase you atomizer that your husband makes I would Like to know cost and shipping I’m in Washington state. You could email me if that will help with communication 🙏🏼 Jim Tierney Tierneypac@gmail.com
Thank you for all this helpful info on using an atomizer.
great, extremely practical tutorial! Thanks for helping prevent all kinds of mishaps!
Oh I am so glad that you found it useful, Jenni. It is fun stuff but it can be contrary so I am happy to make the journey a little smoother! Thanks!
i realize I am kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to stream new movies online ?
@Clayton Eden I would suggest FlixZone. Just search on google for it =)
Thank you! This was very helpful!!!
Thanks so much Judy!
Yello! I was looking at your paintings and found one you called Borderlands. It was absolutely mesmerising. I was wondering how you painted it and got that luminous layered glowy effect?
Borderlands was painted with acrylic mixed with varying amounts of white gesso on Yupo (a synthetic plastic Paper) that was first coated with black gesso. With the right amount of transparency and opacity to the paint the "glowing" effect is achieved because it sits on top of the black gesso. I have a chapter on painting on black gesso in my book that describes the process step by step. Hope this helps!
@@inspiredpalettestudiobyjot7394 That's awesome! I hope I can paint like that some day. 🥺💕
Does you sell Jeff's Atomizer?
Yes, we usually sell them on our website: www.inspiredpalettestudio.com. We currently do not have them up for sale because of the pandemic. Please check back in a few weeks. Thanks so much. They are $28.
@@inspiredpalettestudiobyjot7394 thx!
@@InfoSeekerOO7 We put them upon the website last week and are good to go! Thanks so much.
@@inspiredpalettestudiobyjot7394 thx
Thank you for scraping up the extra and putting it back in the bottle. Cheap Joe's has a video with a woman who is very carefree with the amount of tar gel she flings all over her large canvas. She also suggests gessoing a canvas four to five times! Evidently she's got lots of disposable income! SMH.
Thanks so much for your feedback. Yes, I am very careful not to waste our precious art materials!
Thank you! I'm a physics and I was trying to craft one myself but I didn't understand how it works. As soon as you said "Venturi", it all made sense. Awesome tutorial!
Thank you Ramon and I am so glad this was helpful!
It would be terrific if you could place the link to your workshops and videos in your information space. I watched your mouth atomizer TH-cams yet I have no way of finding where to buy your husbands atomizer nor can I find how to make the glue gun stencils you mention. And this TH-cam doesn’t tell me how to find your book. VERY frustrating,
Hi Astrid. Thank you so much for watching the videos and I hope you found them useful. I am sorry that you found it difficult to find further information. At the time I made these I was lucky to even figure out how to get them posted. I didn't know I could put information in any space so I will try to correct that. All that said, at the end of the video it mentions my website: www.inspiredpalettestudio.com. All the information about my book and purchasing the atomizer can be found there. I only show the glue gun stencils in my book but Google it and you will find a wealth of information. Also, if you Google, "Jo Toye" my website will pop up in the first search results and you can find everything there. All that said, I appreciate the feedback and will correct this in future videos. Thanks so much, Jo
Oh by the way, my book is on Amazon
Hi I've just bought your book which is mind blowingly beautiful. You make gorgeous work look so easy. One point though why the music? I have a problem hearing I lost your words in the piano.
I am delighted that you like the book, thank you so much. I will take your comment about the music under advisement! Thanks. Jo
I wonder if there's a way to restrict the opening of the shop bought atomiser to increase the pressure as you say. Trying to think of a way that doesn't involve welding and soldering!
If you come up with an idea let me know if it works! We tried to think of everything so that we didn't have to make them but we are still thinking!
I got a basic folding atomiser, I can't seem to make it work at all! Does the paint in its container need to be as far up the down tube as possible, to minimise the height that you are trying to draw the paint up? I also seem to remember something from school where you were supposed to use circular breathing, to keep up a continuous flow of air, but I can't work out how to do that. But you don't seem to use that in your other videos, so perhaps I just don't have enough puff, or maybe I need to cut down the down tube so there's less length for the paint to come up
The folding atomizers are nearly impossible to get to work with white paint. They can sometimes work with very diluted acrylic or watercolor. It is more about the angle of the tubes to each other. Also, as I show in my videos, the further up the tube the paint is, the easier it is to spray. They do take a lot of breath. Think blowing out candles on a cake. Check youtube for some videos on the regular atomizer like you bought and it may give you some ideas. I don't use it so I just know it is very hard to make work. Thanks!
glad you are recovery well
Thanks so very much!
Can resist be used on bisqued pottery. Will it burn off in the kiln.
Hi Joyce! I am sorry but I don't know the answer to that question. It is ammonia based so I am not sure what it will do. I would google "masking fluid and bisque pottery" and see if you get any info. If regular masking fluid can be used then the pen should be able to be used too. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Very good demonstration, with many good points to follow.
Thanks so much, glad it helped!
Can I use it on oil paint
Hi Sunil. If you can thin the oil paint to the consistency of water or skim milk, then yes, you may be able to spray it. Because of the solvents, I would not spray without the use of a respirator. In addition, cleaning the atomizer will need to be done with solvent rather than water. If you have any more questions just let me know. Thanks!
thanks
What is the name of your book?
"Abstract Explorations in Acrylic Painting" published by North Light. You can find it on Amazon - just search Jo Toye. I have a video walk through of it on my website and amazon author page so you can get an idea of what is in it. Thanks!
I just replied to this but must have hit the wrong button as now I don't see it. If you get it twice, sorry. "Abstract Explorations in Acrylic Painting" published by North Light. You can find it on Amazon - just search for Jo Toye in books and it will come up. You can also see a video walk-through of the book on my webpage or on my Amazon Author page. Thanks!
Glad to hear you are okay and back on your feet. Thanks for the helpful video. I am loving your husband's atomizer.
Thanks Betty! I will pass the along your comment to Jeff. We are delighted you are pleased!
thanks, that was helpful!
Could I use on acrylic?
Hi Beverly! Yes, my demo was done with acrylic. Fluid acrylic watered down. if you use heavy acrylic layers you may have a problem getting it off because it will be buried by the layer of plastic. Hope this helps. If not, just let me know and I will try give you a better answer. Thanks for watching the video!
So happy you are up and at it again!
Thanks so much Carmen. I miss seeing you and I hope you are well.
I glad you are okay!
Thanks Beverly! I still have a way to go but I am grateful to be up and about. Thanks for subscribing to my videos!
EXCELLENT demo Jo and really appreciate the mask idea as I am asthmatic and never thought of this. THANK YOU, Wanda
Hi Wanda! I am so glad that you enjoyed the video and that the mask idea is helpful. I always appreciate when people take the time and effort to let me know they enjoy the videos. I am getting another ready to release soon!
YAYYYY
June 1, 2017 I tried this product and the fluid came out too fast and created blobs instead of fine lines.
Hi Jimmy. I am sorry you are having troubles with the masking fluid. I hope to have another video up that will show the use of it but in January I had a very serious bicycle accident and 4.5 months later I am just starting to walk again. Thus, everything has been put on hold. The problem you are having is typical of using the pen for the first time. The biggest problem my students have is that they squeeze the bottle after it starts to flow onto the surface. Instead, place the tip on the paper, start it flowing and as you move it rely mostly on the capillary action of the fluid. Most of all it takes PRACTICE and time to figure out angle to the paper, speed of travel and pressure on the applicator bottle. In my book, I demonstrate the different results depending on those variables and will do so when I do the second video. If you have signed up to my channel you will get notices when it comes available. It is hard to describe it in words but once you see it demonstrated I think you will understand what I have said above. Most importantly, DON'T SQUEEZE BUT LET IT FLOW. Thanks again and I hope this helps. jo
Hi - can't seem to find part 2. I just bought this and it is not flowing smooth, either it comes out way to fast and runs or it skips. I am sure that there is a technique to learn, hence looking for your video :)
Hi! Thanks so much for watching my video on the masking pen. I am so sorry that I have not gotten the 2nd video up and running. Once my book came out last year I was traveling all over the country teaching and planned to catch up with the videos in January- April of 2017. Unfortunately in early January I had a very serious bicycle accident and 4.5 months later I am just starting to walk again. Thus, everything has been put on hold. I hope to get back to them soon. To answer your question, the biggest problem my students have is that they squeeze the bottle after it starts to flow onto the surface. Place the tip on the paper, start it flowing and as you move it rely mostly on the capillary action of the fluid. IF you move too quickly you will get skipping - I don't mind that but some do. Most of all it takes PRACTICE(-:. My students always say I make it look so easy - it is easy after you have done it 1000 hours like I have (-: Don't worry, it won't take you that long but you do need to take some time figuring out angle to the paper, speed of travel and pressure on the applicator bottle. In my book, I demonstrate the different results depending on those variables and will do so when I do the second video. If you have signed up to my channel you will get notices when it comes available, and since you wrote and asked, I will make sure when I can do another, I will do it first. Thanks again and I hope this helps. jo
Wow - so sorry to hear about your accident. When I was in my thirties I had a wall fall me, in a hip to chest brace for a year so I have an idea what you are going through. I'll keep practicing :)
I just got your book, can't wait to start painting. So glad I found your video series!
Hi Karen! Thanks for the note and I am so glad you like the book! Let me know if you have any questions and I hope you enjoy the videos!
Hi Jo, thanks for the demo.It says part one & two but it has only one part...
Hi Shoshke! You are welcome. Regarding part 1 & 2, the video combines both of these parts as I both explain the product and then demonstrate it in this one video. Part 3 will be how to use it in actual paintings
Thanks for your answer 👍💐
Hi Jo, your videos are very inspiring. I can't seem to find part 3 of the Tar Gel series. Thank you
Thanks Jo! Great video! Any ideas where I can find a large mouth squirt bottle???
Hi Delores. Thanks! I think Walmart has one in the kitchen section. The nice thing about that one is that the cap is attached to the bottle so it doesn't get lost.
Trank you very much! It was a Great Video!
