Four Lines remix 02 - explorations of a Buchla 248 MARF workalike
Another quick example of the flexibility of the MARF-workalike sequencer. The patch is almost identical to the previous video (th-cam.com/video/WGhKrRta5dE/w-d-xo.html) but it generates a completely different vibe. I might post a few more in this series... the MARF is a lot of fun to explore.
Credit and kudos again to @SuzanneCiani for her brilliant Four Lines composition and her report to the National Endowment from 1976 which form the foundation for this musical exploration.

Sustained long notes on synthesizers typically involve an ADSR envelope, with the long part of the note (the sustain) either static or modulated by something like an LFO. A quick little video demonstrating the unusual behaviour of the Befaco Pony VCO TZ-FM input when changing the amplitude of the incoming modulating oscillator. Through-zero FM normally (on other oscillator designs) doesn't destabilize the pitch to this degree. This is the fourth Pony VCO I've tested, all with the same behaviour. Haha thanks… The red and black cables are semi-perma-patched so I try to keep them clean. White is the current patch. Makes it easier to read while I’m patching or performing, and easier to clean up when I’m done

Thanks! I'm using the Droid E4 encoders to create pitch sequences for two voices and smooth random for the third voice. All of that runs through the quantizer (also on the Droid) controlled by the B32 button controller.
@TMeier Ah, got it. I've never touched a droid but I hear good things about it..
@@Probbie It takes a bit to figure out how best to work with the Droid. It's a modular inside the modular... so learning how to patch it took some time. But now I'm very happy with it. It takes care of things that I generally would prefer to have "behind the panel" - functionality that doesn't exist in other modules or would otherwise require a lot of patching and panel space

Yeah thats, a problem. The whole point of thru zero fm is to avoid this. Did you try runing the modulation source through a high pass to remove DC offset?
Good suggestion! I hadn't tried that... but, doesn't help. I think the issue is in the TZ-FM input circuitry

That's how I started too! I found @befacosynth modules in VCV thanks to @OmriCohen-Music. A great place to start - you can learn in software and then use that knowledge when you jump to hardware

That's the lovely Heaven 16 sequencer by @ddmodules. 2x8-step or 1x16-step with lots of interesting functionality for gates, repeats etc. Probably the most sequencer-per-HP you can get in analog
