What if the gaps between the slabs are really deep, like 30ml or more. What material can i use to fill it so its 12 to 20ml deep, ready for the grout? I assume builders sand, if the gaps are narrow

So you've basically felted the roof and then put shingles over the top? I'm looking at doing this on a gazebo, confused to as why you've used double coverage. Why not just membrane then felt it with shingles?

Does the underlay need to have an overhang of the same proportions as the felt?

Hi we had new modern fascias and soffits fitted last year and they have NO vents……now we are getting condensation and the ceilings are growing mould in the corners of some of the rooms……we’ve had different companies come in and they say different things and the cheapest option is £800-£1000…..any ideas what we can do?

I'm a little confused by the fascia board fitted from 3:49. Surely the felt should be over the top of it as water would settle on the upper edge.

If I'm using this video as guidance for how to install underlayment prior to installing shingles, do i still use adhesive and nails spaced at 50mm at the overlaps?

why do i need an underlay???

Interesting video as I have recently considered these. Never had this issue until the govt scheme of extra insulation where the company in question unbeknownst to us have blocked the soffit vents within the loft space. No airflow = lots of condensation, and damp insulation does nothing to retain heat. Now in the process of sorting, and these may prove to be essential.

Great video. Just what I need. Seems clear and DIY-able. Only question is the arrangements of the vents , do they need to be in line with each other on both sides of the roof ? Ie in this video there are 2 vents (eaves and apex level) on the same rafter making them in line with each other but in other videos they are staggered with one at eaves level on rafter A but at apex on rafter B. Which is the recommended?

Put a pack of 10 Manthorpe vents into my roof space about a week ago, as I had quite serious condensation when I checked about a month ago during very cold weather. Just checked today and apart from a couple of small patches, the felt is now dry looking. I only managed to put them at about halfway and three quarters of the way up the roof, as I am not good with ladders or crawling on rafters! Seems to be working, as there is definitely a flow of air through, as I can see the cobwebs moving. I also invested in a smallish dehumidifier to place next to damp clothes and it seems to be keeping the house humidity down to just under 60%.

Have you replaced the Manthorpe model (with 3 clips) with the Timloc model (which has 2 inserting clips)? The Manthorpe one works fine, the Timloc one doesn't insert fully. What's the difference between the two? I thought they are supposed to work in exactly the same way

Great video. I've used the Manthorpe one without problems but when I recently purchased the Timloc design I can't get it to fit flush in behind the roof felt. Am I doing something wrong? It seems to hita wooden beam

Hi. Ive just been in my loft and its dripping wet ,its the first time its happened in 25 years. I have mortar thats come away from the side of the eaves on the side of the house, do you think this has contributed to it ? I will purchase those vents in your video and regardless I will get the eaves repointed. Thanks

Hello, I don’t think I’ve ever had condensation problems in the past but in the summer I boarded out roughly 30% of my loft in the middle. I only did the middle section as I had read about condensation problems. Sure enough I’ve been up to get the Christmas decorations and it’s quite wet up there. Will these vents help with the situation? I don’t think there is any vents at all up there

How do you work out how many you need. Had a new roof in summer but just been up and it is dripping wet.

Hi. I have bitumen felt and rafters are 300mm apart. Will it fit? My felt feels a bit tight to push the vents in. How do I approach this?

Great video. Thanks 👍 I need to do this as I noticed last winter a lot of condensation on the felt on the north facing roof at the rear of the property. I’ve also noticed slight mold spots on the ceiling edges and coving in the two rooms at the rear corners of the property. Would these also alleviate that, or is it caused by another problem?
