    Interesting video as I have recently considered these. Never had this issue until the govt scheme of extra insulation where the company in question unbeknownst to us have blocked the soffit vents within the loft space. No airflow = lots of condensation, and damp insulation does nothing to retain heat. Now in the process of sorting, and these may prove to be essential.

    Put a pack of 10 Manthorpe vents into my roof space about a week ago, as I had quite serious condensation when I checked about a month ago during very cold weather. Just checked today and apart from a couple of small patches, the felt is now dry looking. I only managed to put them at about halfway and three quarters of the way up the roof, as I am not good with ladders or crawling on rafters! Seems to be working, as there is definitely a flow of air through, as I can see the cobwebs moving.
    I also invested in a smallish dehumidifier to place next to damp clothes and it seems to be keeping the house humidity down to just under 60%.

    Great video. Just what I need. Seems clear and DIY-able. Only question is the arrangements of the vents , do they need to be in line with each other on both sides of the roof ? Ie in this video there are 2 vents (eaves and apex level) on the same rafter making them in line with each other but in other videos they are staggered with one at eaves level on rafter A but at apex on rafter B. Which is the recommended?

    • @lord8139
      @lord8139 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched another video on these and said it was better to stagger them. Also to have some at the top and bottom to let the wind move around in the loft

    Hi. Ive just been in my loft and its dripping wet ,its the first time its happened in 25 years. I have mortar thats come away from the side of the eaves on the side of the house, do you think this has contributed to it ?
    I will purchase those vents in your video and regardless I will get the eaves repointed.
    Thanks

    Great video. Thanks 👍
    I need to do this as I noticed last winter a lot of condensation on the felt on the north facing roof at the rear of the property. I’ve also noticed slight mold spots on the ceiling edges and coving in the two rooms at the rear corners of the property. Would these also alleviate that, or is it caused by another problem?

    • @Ashbrookroofingsupplies
      @Ashbrookroofingsupplies ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Gareth, we're glad you enjoyed the video! The felt lap vents will alleviate that; however if the condensation running the walls in your roof space were significant enough over time, this could contribute to what you're seeing, however, this could also be to the result of water ingress through the tiles/slates/membrane (i.e roof leak). Also, high humidity in the room below without sufficient ventilation could cause mold growth on the walls of the ceiling a suggestion would be try the simple and easy fix with the felt lap vents and monitor that, and if the problem still persists I would suggest having the roof inspected.

      Bugs will not be able to enter, this is highly unlikely. Always ensure your roof is in good condition as broken or missing tiles/slates may produce a leak or opening for unwanted guests regardless of introducing the vents or not. If you have some areas of roof where tiles/slates may be damaged then for peace of mind ensure that you do not place a vent directly under that area in your roof space.

    Have you replaced the Manthorpe model (with 3 clips) with the Timloc model (which has 2 inserting clips)? The Manthorpe one works fine, the Timloc one doesn't insert fully. What's the difference between the two? I thought they are supposed to work in exactly the same way

    Hello, I don’t think I’ve ever had condensation problems in the past but in the summer I boarded out roughly 30% of my loft in the middle. I only did the middle section as I had read about condensation problems. Sure enough I’ve been up to get the Christmas decorations and it’s quite wet up there. Will these vents help with the situation? I don’t think there is any vents at all up there

      These do work. Try 10 at first,about£30. Then see how that goes. Also pull any insulation away from any soffit vents.

    Hi can i just ask if you have to mirror these across the attic or can they be staggered also im in an end terrace and have 3 sloped sides to my roof. How best would i fit these

      @Ashbrookroofingsupplies ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apologies for the late response, we are extremely busy but always answer as soon as we can 😊
      You can stagger if you wish, you will achieve airflow regardless.
      As for placement, if you can place them on two opposing sloped sides this would be ideal, however, as long as you can get installation into two slopes regardless if they are opposite or adjacent you will still achieve an airflow.

    Hi. I have bitumen felt and rafters are 300mm apart. Will it fit? My felt feels a bit tight to push the vents in. How do I approach this?

    • @Ashbrookroofingsupplies
      @Ashbrookroofingsupplies ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, The rafter bays are definitely on the tight side for the vents at 300m spacing, they are 275mm wide.
      However my advice would be give them a try, you could always trim some of the side of the vent away with scissors if you wanted.
      You can also send us a photo of your rafters so we can take a better look!

    Hi we had new modern fascias and soffits fitted last year and they have NO vents……now we are getting condensation and the ceilings are growing mould in the corners of some of the rooms……we’ve had different companies come in and they say different things and the cheapest option is £800-£1000…..any ideas what we can do?

      @AyupStuggy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Do want this guy says, there's a few companies making these. Search for 'roofing felt lap vent'. Also... Add extra insulation, making sure there's no gaps in insulation above the upstairs ceilings. As far as the main house goes... Put in a PIV (positive input ventilation system) in the upstairs ceiling, the unit mounts in the loft. They pull in air from the loft and into the house, and some have a small heater to take the chill off air in cold weather. Ensure bathroom has extract with humidistat. Ensure there is a way for air to get in the bathroom from the main part of the house/hallway which is fed from the PIV (door vent or gap under door. Ensure you have a kitchen extract. Keep bathroom and kitchen doors closed when they are humid. Heat the house to a minimum of 18 deg.c at ALL times. I hope that helps!

      If desperate get some polystyrene and break it into small pieces about an inch thick to create some ventilation. Tuck it into the felt very much in position similar to this product. Will improve things until stock comes in but will have to do it all over the attic
