Great video, Dave!
That's so true. Thank you
You're welcome and I appreciate the positive comment thank you! If you ever need a hand with your music making let me know! :)
What track are you referring to? Prophecy?
Has to be right?
Aye, that's the one!
Yeah that's the one :) I've put my sources in the long form video if you want more info or to dig deeper etc from the interviews I quote :) enjoy! Thanks for the comment too :)
Wish they’d come to Scotland
Aw same! Got a ticket for them in London in March cos tired of waiting for them! Never seen them so can't wait
@ no way hope you have a blast man, unbelievably jealous. Will stay subbed and hopefully you can tell us how it went!
My favourite band ever
They are so amazing!
is this what Depeche Mode used for "Sounds of the Universe"?
Not sure!
From what I know, they used the Digitech Talker on the Human After All album and on Random Access Memories. They also used a Sennheiser VSM-201 on RAM too. They also used a Digitech Vocalist on Discovery
Cool
hi. i would like to be better at self mixing and mastering.
Amazing! If you like you could join my wee challenge here (free) that has everything you need! www.tonicnoteaudio.co.uk/try-it-for-free
You look like the oldest 13 year old I've EVER seen yo.
I'm 12 actually 😅
They made a death stranding song. So they’re pretty cool.
I had to Google what that was there ha ha but Aye video games x music is always a powerful combo! ⚡
nice content man
Thank you I appreciate the positivity!!! 🙏
Ok , love the enthusiasm, but you didn't convey any information nor did you source your video. Unless I am a dickhead replying to a really good AI video.
Great tip
Thanks for watching and glad it helped
Great video, Dave! Keeping it simple is something I needed reminding of. Away to check out Factory Floor now!
Glad you like the video man! Oh my god I think you're gonna love them if you haven't Heard them before. Esp the album 25 25. Then Gabe has his own solo stuff which has a bit more 80s maximalism to it which is cool. I've heard rumblings FF MIGHT be making a new record soon too as well! Never seen them live either so hopefully catch them on tour one day!!!
Less is more ☮️
That's it!
BJÖRK MENTIONED ‼️‼️‼️‼️
She's the best!
Björk is a good ‘un. Sláinte!
Absolutely!! Cheers bud!
I thought she said it was kind of like a joke song that her and the band would listen to before going on stage when the audience would be quietly waiting for them to come on stage. It was like an in joke for the band then they ended up recording it.
Cool I didn't see that version of the story. Thard cool tho thanks for sharing. Links to my sources are in my main podcast on björk if you wanna dive deeper where I got my info :)

This was great. I'd love to try Finish That Damn Track. I'm really busy at the moment but I have a holiday from the 28th when I can try it. Is the course compatible with Logic Pro?
Aw thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! On the free challenge, maybe the bit about arrangement is a bit more Ableton specific, but the parts on mixing and mastering would work on any DAW! :) It's free so feel free to sign up here and I am also at the end of the emails to clarify anything too. I mainly use Ableton, but I also use logic on a daily basis at the college I work at so can definitely answer most questions on logic too :) happy to help and thanks for watching and liking the video!!! www.tonicnoteaudio.co.uk/try-it-for-free
Minus the weird dialog warble and the weird static filter, this is awesome
Ok
Bro i would just sit there and be like "i- uhh... well... see you wanna get a- hmm." 😭
Ah yeah well this approach might not work for everyone I guess but I'm sure you've found or will find a way that works best for you! Try lots of different techniques is my main advice - and a lot of people I've researched seem to use a variety of approaches over the years of their music career :)
He also smokes like a chimney, he hardly seems like a health nut
Ah I didn't know that, fair point
Great video Dave, this format really works well for me.
Thanks man I really appreciate it and glad you like the video podcast vibe! I'm enjoying making them too! Audio only over on Spotify if you ever need that too :)
So 100% True you can't be completely stuck on 100% of your idea you bring forth into a collaboration.
Totally! So glad to get this knowledge from Damon of Gorillaz! It was fun for me to research to compile into this video . Thanks for watching!
Dave is Jarvis Cocker’s son
Ha ha I'll take that! My college nick name was actually Jarvis! I don't intentionally try and ape his style it just happens 🤣 I almost walked into him by accident in Paris once and the look in his face definitely suggested to me that he was thinking "F*CK that guy looks like me " 🤣
I'm glad I stumbled on your channel. I'm also based in Kent, and a lover of whisky and music production! This seems like my kinda place :)
Nice one! That's great :) I should organise a live meet up one day! Thanks for the positive comment! If you ever want feedback on your music for free just give me an email or get me through my Website - cheers! 🙏 tonicnoteaudio@gmail.com or www.tonicnoteaudio.co.uk/
@@whiskyandsynths Oof. Never mind, sigh...
Hey, very interesting video mate, I got this on Google searching for synths used by the band. I love CHVRCHES, I listen to them every day actually haha. Cheers from Barcelona.
Hiya I am so glad you liked it! Thank you!! I have another one about their vocal writing and production too. Aw yeah hopefully the list of synths and possible VST alternatives you can use in the video description helps you out too 💜🙏
@@whiskyandsynths Thanks I will keep an eye on the channel!
Thank you! Have fun with the music making!! If you need free feedback on a track or anything just get in touch! tonicnoteaudio@gmail.com

Great video Dave!
Thanks Paul!! Appreciate you watching it and glad you enjoyed it! In doing these weekly for the foreseeable so hope you like the ones coming up too!
This is great stuff.
Thanks so much! I actually read this worrying it was going to be a negative comment (it happens on TH-cam!) so I very much appreciate your positivity! And I am glad you enjoyed the video!!! Thanks again! 🙏
Lcd sound system started with things much greater than the korg mini
Well yeah it might not have been the exact first synth James used, but They use a huge array of gear, and to this day have a microkorg on stage. I literally saw it on stage at all points east a few weeks ago. They also got a custom built unit for Nacy that incorporates 4 microkorgs plus other stuff into one mega synth. You should look it up. Microkorgs and LCD are like this 🤞
That was a cool solo at the end, is there a way to save your song in the K01?
Thank you so much! It can remember loops but once you turn it on and off , it forgets them!
@@whiskyandsynths thanks now I know :)
I discovered B.O.C. just this last year. I feel I'm in the right place here. Some of my stronger influences include. The Orb. Negativland. The Grid. Skinny Puppy. The Future Sound of London. Thrill K!ll Kult and many more. I currently am working on improving my sound quality as that was an area where I sadly was lacking. You mentioned a lack of budget. Allow me to reccomend a page called Play PM. He always has great tips for recording programs. Thank you for the video
i feel like that table could be higher. his poor back.
Thank you for the concern!
A see through bag for the microKORG, is the most Japanese thing that Korg has done.
Even though I Joked about... I LOVE IT 😅
A dictaphone can't be compared with an old good dick to phone!
Great explanation! Love how you incorporated the history element in there too!
Thank you so much for the comment, I really appreciate the positivity!! I'll be making plenty more videos like this soon, so expect more to come, especially with more stuff about featured artists and maybe some more tutorials in Ableton etc too :)
great video, thanks
Love your energy. I get a really good feeling of authenticity from you. Subbed for more.
Add lfo to the pitch of a synth, makes it sound more analog
Also a great tip , I love pitch drift
This came up on my yt feed. Great tips gathered. Subscribed and curious about more. Take care man!
Thank you so much for the positive comment! I'll be posting stuff like this quite frequently and hoping to keep making it better
You hear this a lot on The Campfire Headphase, tracks like 84 Pontiac dream and Oscar see through Red Eye have these one shot samples that almost sound like old children’s show tunes. Another interesting production technique I have learned just by listening to them is that a lot of the time their drums are heavily layered. Julie and Candy is a great example of this. It has lots of elements that disappear and reappear and accent certain hits of the main drum groove. I also notice that between the main hits there are lots of off beat percussion sounds like on Peacock Tail and Slow this Bird down. A lot of the time their tracks do just rely on loops than hammer themselves into your brain but because they are so layered and change slightly every time it never really gets boring. Most of their songs are in 4/4 but kind of have a different sound than what you might think of with 4/4 because they use odd length loops. Like on In a Beautiful Place out in the Country where the loop is 5 bars long. Overall I think there music is all about bringing very simple elements together and to make complex music and breaking norms and what’s “correct” to make unique music.
Hey man love the concepts here would be great to hear some of these examples in the video.
Yeah, this popped up in my recommend, but it would be dope to actually HEAR what he's talking about and not just... hear him talking about it.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try and add that in future videos. I have a concern about copy right strikes if I use their music , but I think a few seconds is usually ok
hey good evening. My name is Brandon. I saw your video/podcast on TH-cam. I see that you put a lot of work into it, but unfortunately few people watch your videos. And I want to change that. I want more people to watch your videos and for your moment to become big. I would like to help you with that. There are some costs involved. Let me know if you’re interested. And then we can discuss further what I can do for you
Thanks for offering but not for me , cheers
I don’t get why they didn’t make the microkorg S Crystal it’s stupid.
Not sure why!
Dick to phones?
