Some of the best bakeries in New York - Pt 2 (2019)
We visited almost 40 bakeries on our trip to New York last autumn, and although it has been a while, the memories from the trip are still too sweet!
This part 2 video features the rest of our favourite NYC bakeries, and, in addition to personal preference, were selected based on various reviews, awards, articles and ratings.
The bakeries in the video are:
Two Little Red Hens - a very cute cafe and bakery in upper east side, dishing out cupcakes, cakes, pies and more. It is one of the best (if not the best, according to some), american style bakeries in NYC. Their New York cheesecake was hands down our favourite from the 8 we tried on this trip.
Four & Twenty Blackbirds - they make superb american style pies, again, if not the best in New York. The bakeries are based in Brooklyn, further away from the touristy attractions, but are absolutely worth a detour.
Mah Ze Dahr - started as an online bakery with numerous famous fans, it has had a retail location in west village for several years only, which makes it one of the newer bakeries in New York. It is not one to be missed though, and you should definitely try their no-bake New York cheesecake and brioche donuts.
Balthazar - a truly iconic French restaurant and bakery in Soho. Once you step in, you're instantly transported into Paris, from the interior, to the breads & pastries and staff uniforms. The pecan sticky bun we tried from there was faultless.
Maman - another French-style bakery, where you will want to spend several hours, if not days - not just because of their delicious food and bakes, but the unique and beautiful interior as well.
Ovenly - it started out as a wholesale bakery, but lucky to us all, they have several retail locations in Brooklyn and Williamsburg. They are famous for combining sweet and salty flavours and creating unique bakes, and their Brooklyn Blackout cake is one of the best you can try in New York.
Magnolia - this American style bakery has multiple locations across New York, the United States and beyond. Of course, it was made even more popular since being featured on Sex and the City, but it can definitely back up the craze with the delicious cupcakes, brownies and cakes. We loved their signature banana pudding as well.
Bibble & Sip - a family run bakery combining Asian & French baking styles Their colourful and cute macarons will definitely put a smile on your face and might be too beautiful to actually eat.
Martha's Country Bakery - another great American style bakery to add to the list. The one we visited in Williamsburg was one of the biggest bakeries we've ever seen. After spending ages looking at everything they have on offer we went for the raspberry swirl cheesecake and a pecan pie. Both were faultless, but we are still dreaming about the pecan pie!

When I was a student going to the capital of Evia by bus I used to take off from the train to St. Nikolas station and headed for the central bus station. Outside of that station there was the best bakery into making Galaktompoureko pies. Later I discovered that very early in the morning daily that place was making at least 300 servings of it which it send them by a van of his own straight to airport and to NY city in Astoria to be exact. To hotel of Astoria. There many immigrant Greeks dined only for them to order a serving of the sweet which was magical.
Wow does that ever look delicious all of it! If I was there I'd be like a kid in a candy shop. I would probably stay all day LOL

Thanks! Been to France many times and planning to go many more times.. it’s true, the bakes are amazing there, but every country has a baking culture that is worth exploring. That’s the point of the videos 😊

In terms of variety you're wrong, on taste maybe you have a point, but there are so many kinds of bakery in Mexico that maybe some could be equals or even better than in France... But who knows. Just buy both and compare yourself

@@pastrytrail1182 Right? A life without good pastries is dull and boring. I suppose I can say that amazing freshly baked crusty breads and sweet pastries are sort of like my pick me up. Some people love their beer, wine, and liquor. Others like their pot, cocaine, or whatever other drug they may prefer. Delicious baked goods are my drug.
Ferrara bakery.. If it's right, Franco amati worked in this place. Franco was my grandmother's cousin.(my grandma names Maria) He was from Miglionico, Italy..🇮🇹🇮🇹 Well my grandmother has never forget him. She tell me that had a beautiful relationship with him. @beswick1111 perhaps something to do with rent prices and salaries. I had a donut delivery business when the lockdown started, and to make a really good donut I was spending A LOT of time. If I was to price it fairly for the time spent no one would buy it! So to make it a viable business artisan bakeries have to price the items for the effort that goes into making them. I’m always happy to pay because I know what it takes to make something good

It's called Ojo de Buey
Its called "Ojo de buey" (Bull's eye) is like a cupcake with salty puff pastry edges, pretty unique flavor the favorite of many mexicans, great with coffee.

Where IS Northside bakery!? This is only comersial ... bad bad bad. You can easily recognize who makes it.
And who is that? 😂 This was my first trip to New York, and we went to over 40 bakeries. I tried to visit all of the ones that are popular for some reason, and are American, as well as having roots in other cultures. Also bear in mind I didn't include Carlos etc., so I tried to avoid commercial. Next time we go, I can visit neighbourhood bakeries that didn't come up as much in my research, but I'm sure are as good :)

Hey, I knew Carlo's bakery from Cake Boss, but I didn't get the chance to go to Hoboken on this trip. I visited their Times Square location and it was very commercialised around the show (even though their signature sfogliatella was good!). Interestingly, they weren't included in any of the ratings and "best in new york" articles I've read (and I've read a lot). For those reasons I left them out for now, but I'll do a feature when I manage to get to Hoboken on my next trip 😊
