Service Year Programs & Opportunities in the USA
Thank you for sharing this information!
i'm a recent graduate and for a long time i've wanted to do this sort of work but i'm having trouble finding any stipend information. especially since my indoor cat is like a daughter to me and i want to make sure i'll be able to not only cover my expenses, but hers as well
@@ves5657 hi! Was there a specific program you were looking for the stipend for?
Hi,can a kenyan be reqruited
@@Gods-loved-1 Hi, unfortunately you need to be a US citizen or US permanent resident to join NCCC
Thanks Sabrina, I am planning to find a job next year for summer. I am 56yrs old, very active, fit and finally have the time to do this. Do you think there will be a problem finding work because of my age? Please let me know what you think. Thanks for the info!!
Hi! I do think that people are often deterred from seasonal work because they feel like age is a factor, but in reality there are people of all ages working many different types of seasonal jobs! What it really comes down to is; are fit enough to get the job done and have the basic skill set needed for the job. I personally don't think you should have an issue finding a seasonal job due to your age. I hope you find one that provides you with a great experience.
You hav instgram sabrina
Goood👍👍👍👍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Have you ever worked at Yellowstone club before in big sky Montana?
I have not worked there but I have heard of it/seen it on coolworks. While I dont have any info about working there, I would check employee reviews on glassdoor or reddit!
Nice experience and explaining things 😊
Why do some jobs stay on cool works when the position been filled already
That can be frustrating. It’s because it is the company’s job to take the job posting down but some do not, thus the job may remain for a while. Or the posting is there all the time because they are hiring that position year round/constantly.
You're awesome and thank you so much for your service! Serve Alaska Commission member, ~Jeremy ~
This was a fantastic video! Truly, it helped me a lot, thanks
Im so glad it helped!
@@theworkingexpat oh awesome you’re actually responding😄 cause I do have a follow up question for ya if you could help please! If the date of my application affects the campus I would be sent to, would that affect the site location for my rounds as well? Like if I go to the IA campus, would I most likely stay in the Midwest region, or is that decision more random?
@@alexbuswell3500 yes! So, if you are sent to the Pacific Region in CA then you will stay in the pacific regions states. It is possible to leave the region and go to other states but that would only be if its really needed.
@@theworkingexpat ok great thank you!
i lived in one of those rooms in 2009 and they looked exactly the same just with older fridge and microwave lmao
😂
As an alaskan this is alright but not quite accurate. Seasons are yearly as well, year to year there are longer weather cycles. Some summers there will be no shorts lol
Just got my acceptance letter from americorps and I start in Sacramento ( just what i wanted!) in this October, and man i am so hyped for it! And I'm very nervous at the same time, one thing you mentioned that I'm looking forward to is a schoolorship and I am still planning on going to art School in the future so I'll definitely let that come in handy if it does hehe can't wait for a better life
Thats great! I hope you have a fantastic year and that you love art school!!
@@theworkingexpat thank you so much 😄
This was very informative. TY.
How do they normally conduct the interviews? Via phone, Skype, Zoom, etc? I imagine it's unlikely to be onsite, but I just want to be sure 😅
Hi! Yes, most seasonal jobs do their interviews over the phone, skype, or zoom!
@@theworkingexpat Thank you!
Thank maam watching from Philippines
Hello Sabrina, can you mention some of the camps to go to, meaning those away from the city?
Hi! There are thousands of camps across the USA, so it comes down to location and type of camp you want to work at. I would recommend using the ACA website: find.acacamps.org/ to find a camp that works best for you. On the site you can find summer camps that match your criteria and then apply via their employee page.
I love how honest you are to future Americorps members!!! This is my first year in Americorps and ive experienced all of this!!😂😂
WHAT REGIONS WERE U IN!!! I'm in the north central region and u r soo on point!!!!
Hi! My first year I was in the Pacific Region and my second year I was in the North Central region! I hope your year is going well, it is a wild ride but a really awesome one!
I am so glad that I found this video 💕
can u make a video of the regionswhats the purpose of them and why they have members split up at different regions
Hi! The regions each have a specific number of states allocated to them based on location, population, and a few other factors so they are able to cover/serve as many projects/communities as possible. It also helps with organization for project submissions and team assignments/support. I wish I could make a more detailed video because it's a great idea and there is a bit more to it. Unfortunately, at the moment I don't have time, but maybe in the future!
very comprehensive. Thank you!
I went up there all that happened was I was chased around by all the women’s you have to be fast or they’ll get ya😂 I’d always heard it was hard to meet a woman there well that was a lie!
You are very beautiful.
This was so helpful thank you! I’m considering applying but have had trouble finding examples of the specific work I might be doing. If 90% of the work was just paperwork I’d be far less interested! The descriptions I kept finding were pretty vague. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. This does have me leaning towards being more interested in Americorps thank green corps or peace corps
I am happy I could help! It can be hard to find info out there about NCCC but their projects are hands on, FEMA is more paperwork. Whatever you choose I hope you have a great service year!
How much was the accommodation?
Hi! I am so sorry, this was a couple years ago now so I do not remember exactly, unless it states in the video. I remember it was deducted from my pay check, maybe around $150 every two weeks if I remember correctly?
When you say diploma, you mean high school or college degree has to be in last 4 years? I have a Masters from 2015.
Hi! I know all of these programs require aa college degree. Some programs state that the college degree needs to be within so many years of applying.
Ministry scares me being they can change their mind any time and do not pay for months at times.
Can you please share the link to apply for commercial fishing job
Hi! I do not know of of many, but you can try to find commercial fishing jobs on fishingindustryjobs.com or Alaska Tourism Job boards
Thank you for these videos, it has made an unsure time in my life feel more approachable. It seems like everywhere I look whether it be teaching in Spain, working seasonally, and now this you are there.
Hello so il be working in montage big sky as a housekeeper as an intern so i want to know if its the same as big sky resort or there is the hotel on one side and the resort on the other side, also regarding accommodation do we all get the same accommodation as the one you have showed aren’t there houses where a bunch of people can share or those in MBS get accommodation elsewhere
Hi! I am not super sure. The resort has many hotels that they own, but there are some that they do not. I would reach out to your hotel and ask this as a clarification question.
@@theworkingexpat okay thank you❤️❤️
What's your Facebook or whatsap ?
How about housing
What do you mean? If it is included or what its really like?
Hi Sabrina, do you know if these programs will place you at least in the same region with your spouse if you both apply and get in?
Hi! Depending on which on you go with yes, some will! They should explicitly say if they will in the FAQs on the application page!
LMAO first I watched your videos in 2022 because I join nccc. Now it’s 2024 and I’m watching this because I got a summer job in Alaska. Seems like I’m unintentionally following in your footsteps
That's so funny! I feel like lots of people who were in NCCC got the travel bug or got curious about the seasonal lifestyle. I hope you have an amazing time in Alaska, its so beautiful out there!
Hi Sabrina, do they pay for flights if you live in another state or is it your responsibility to get to your destination?
Hi! Usually it is your responsibility to get there and back. However there are some seasonal jobs that are very remote that might fly you out for the season/pay for your transportation if you complete the season. Those are more rare but possible!
@@theworkingexpat Thank you!
Great video! Would be good to say that people from the uk can apply for the government aux jobs via the British Council for free.
Great video! I’m hoping I can get up to AK for summer work this season for the adventure and to see a friend. This video was great to find!
Thanks so much! I hope you have a wonderful season in Alaska!
Your hot af
Great video!!!! Super clear and explanatory!! Thanks!!!
This is just for americans, right? I would love to work as a seasonal worker in the USA.
Hi! This is not just for Americans! There are tons of seasonal work opportunities across the USA for international workers, and that includes Alaska! You just have to find a business/company that hires staff on a J1 VISA- and there are lots in Alaska that do! You can find them using seasonal work websites like Coolworks!
Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you!
Do they do single occupancy rooms?
Hi! I am not sure if they have single occupancy now but I believe I had a few fiends with single rooms for a higher price.
What a great video, Sabrina!! Thank you so much ☺️ Are these jobs available for foreigners? I am from Argentina and I would like to work in the USA in the Hospitality Industry for a season. I am over 40, so I cannot apply to the typical W&T visas hehe. Thank you!!
Hi! Yes! There are companies and organizations that post on these websites that welcome international staff. You sometimes need to dig though job postings to see which ones are hiring international staff for the current season but they usually state it on the job posting or note that they have staff from around the world. I hope you find one that is perfect for you and you have a great USA experience! (Also, I love Argentina, it is a beautiful country and I hope to explore more of it one day!)
Are these job for person outside of the states
There are a lot of companies that hire people from outside of the USA and they do post jobs on these websites. You will need to comb through them to see which ones hire international workers.
The employee housing has come a long way. In the mid 90s the dorms all smelled like wet dog and the bottom floor rooms were so rough some lifties grew pot in the carpet.
Sorry, but as soon as you said you missed the coffee in the United States, you completely lost me.
