It’s just..people don’t mine for oil, they drill for it. Songs about capitalist greed and warmongering for resources but not specifically oil.

I always took this song more about colonization and how we disrupt whole societies by forcing them to live a different way and stealing their resources.

I love the album. It has an unique deep feel. I would even state that it has the experimental essence that may be lacking in Gorillaz this days. It's what Gorillaz forgot about themselves. I'd love a Second Fall haha.

I think also the name "Plastic Beach" is not very appealing. I was a huge Gorillaz fan and when I heard the album name Plastic Beach I was like...what..?

You start off by referencing jow the artist came up for the idea for rhe album while going through the decorate communist China, and then you immediately go to thinking about it being about the USA. Dude, the Chinese commies went after Tibetans, a peaceful mountain people. The communists coveted the spiritual wealth and started to degrade it by using it to try and controll the people, communism it self a sudo spiritual movement. To me the very first step towards the vanishing of the illusion was during the Hong Kong performance in Demon Days Live in which Damon literally stepped into the spotlight to sing. Even if it was obvious there were people playing in the shadows, Damon had never shown his face to the public during the Phase One tour.
