The Night Is Short Walk On Girl And The Meaning Of Life
The Night is Short, Walk on Girl is one of my favorite animated films in the last decade. While on the surface it seems like a cacophony of madness, underneath it all lurks a beating heart, and commentary on the meaning of life.

Spiritfarer And Death Positivity

The 2020 title Spiritfarer is very unique in the world of video games. And while everything from the design, art, and music make it unique, I want to focus on a specific aspect of the game that I find fascinating, and that is how it deals with death. It’s a game with a very unique perspective on death and dying, and one that we don’t really see in the medium of video games. To that end let’s ex...
Star Wars According To Joseph Campbell
มุมมอง 3.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Joseph Campbell discusses the mythology of Star Wars in his own words. This is something I've wanted to try doing for a long time, as opposed to a straightforward video essay. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good, I don't know if I'd ever do something like this again but it was a fun experiment.
Universal's Frankensteins: Commentaries On Myth And Sin
มุมมอง 1112 ปีที่แล้ว
Universal’s Frankenstein films are a good example of how a piece of art can evolve over time while still maintaining most of its core ideas. Much like the quote from Shelly at the beginning of this video, the story of Frankenstein, regardless of interpretation, tends to follow this core idea. In other words, the road to hell is often paved with good intentions. Source(s): Frankenstein (By Mary ...

For the last few years I've been trying to revisit a lot of the anime I watched as a kid, focusing particularly on the shows that had a huge impact on me like Outlaw Star and Dot Hack Sign. But instead of watching one of the shows, I grew up w...

Into The Spider-Verse - The Hero's Journey, And The Myth Of Spider-Man
มุมมอง 3.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Mythology at its core is about change; much like the stories change with the times, the heroes also evolve to fit within the current world they inhabit. This is what makes Spider-man such a compelling character especially for younger people, he becomes a hero in a time of change that everyone experiences, young-adulthood. Which brings me to the film Into The Spider-verse. On top of being one of...

My favorite movie of all time is Tim Burton’s 1994 film Ed Wood. Which might surprise a lot of people who meet me because i’m sure they assume it’s something like Star Wars but no, it’s actually this really quirky, funny, and not totally accurate retelling of the infamous director's life.
Carole And Tuesday - Love, Change, And The Power Of Music
มุมมอง 5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
On the surface, Carole and Tuesday looks like a high budget anime produced by one of the most esteemed anime producers of our time, complete with his signature brand of catchy music and lovable characters, but like music, it goes much deeper than that. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night And The Melancholic Beauty Of Gothic Horror
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The 2014 film A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is maybe one of the greatest examples of a modern-day gothic horror story, and one of my favorite films of the last decade. It’s a film that ironically exists within the decaying bones of a genre that places most of its stories within crumbling castles of bygone ages. Except, instead of simply borrowing the tropes and settings of the gothic stories...

My older brother had this movie when we were younger, he was into drawing so I believe the art style is what interested him. As far as I know we still have it somewhere. SPOILER ALERT: My favorite plot point is how Rock hated the robots so bad that he didn't want them to be the ones to kill his 'father' so Rock himself does it instead by pressing the BOOM button that kills them all including himself. That is one powerful end to a character that i've ever seen personally lol.

By chance I saw a Eureka Entertainment steelbook Blu-ray of this movie being announced a couple of years ago. I'm so glad I bought it, because I think it's out of print. The first time I ever heard about this movie was when I bought a Monty Python VHS, back in the year 2002. The tape contained a Metropolis trailer. After that I didn't hear a thing about this movie, until I saw that Blu-ray online.

I remember back in California my brother and I lived not far from a BLOCKBUSTER clone called HOLLYWOOD. They had arcade games so we'd frequent a lot with the quarters we had. One day after renting and watching Princess Mononoke, this anime came up in one of the opening trailers on VHS. We were both fascinated by the gritty yet mysteriois trailer. Once we had enough money saved up (a couple $). We went back to the movie store and started browsing. We found it. It was right there in VHS form, with Tima on the cover. After renting it we ran back home as fast as possible. And boy were our minds blown! The colors, the animation style, the context, the story. It was breath taking. Granted, we were too young to fully grasp what was going on politically in the anime, but it was a movie that opened up me up to my anime journey. Its now been 23 years since Ive seen it. But ive never forgotten it. The music, and the tragic, kind of weird romance between an android and a human, is weirdly nostalgic. And I love it. Oh yeah, this anime made me fall in love with Jazz...and now im a musician. 😂

Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful analysis. To be honest, I was traumatized by this film seeing it back in late 2001. That audio dissonance of that Ray Charles classic song against a terrible image of the Ziggurat falling apart while Kenichi was holding on to Tima's hand was so heartbreaking. It really hit me hard. And after 23 years, I cried again watching it. My wife with a beautiful heart noticed this and got angry at this movie and doesn't want to hear that song "I can't stop loving you".

It’s late 1920’s Germany, the Nazis were the villains, the underground rebels are are the communists. And you see them still replicate violence, from a liberation aspect. So it’s not a one sided viewpoint, but the mardukes are most definitely the Nazis and duke red is an obvious hitlerite character. The underground rebels are trying to overthrow Duke red. Even their propaganda is communist themed. Idk how you’d do this video and not even talk about that thematic undertone.

It still seems unnecessary to me, and I feel like the explanations that followed were just an attempt to fix a broken plot mechanism. Lucas just wanted to be able to do a blood test for the force, and came up with this. It reminds me of C-3PO’s costume malfunction later being explained away as him being unfinished and built from scraps.

Once one watched this movie I couldn't see how anyone would forget it in truth I though until now it was a rights issue. Didn't know most haven't heard of it. I kept the dvd version as it had the only known dvd material second disc on a 3 inch disc.. Some have it as a full DVD-5 disc. 5 inch disc? no mines 3 inch.. All in a card board wrap.

(This comment is mainly for christians who have watched the films akira and metropolis, or anyone with an open mind who is respectful) i must add this! im sure only very few people have caught onto this, but katsuhiro otomo is a prophetic writer, and it seems tezuka and his son are too, and although they arent christians (at least from what we know), and it is fiction, there is a little bit of reality in what he writes, God can and does still speak through whoever and whatever he wants to, and there still is prophetic elements that are actually happening in the predicted time frame, akira predicted the 2020 olympics woukd be held in tokyo, and would be cancelled due to an unforseen event, it also predicted the ammount of voilence and lawlessness we see today accurately, meteopolis seems to predict things that are starting to happen in real life right now as well, including robots being idolized, worshiped, and set up as gods, transhumanism, destructive protests, corrupt politicians, ect, theres also much of the same themes of violence and lawlessness that are seen in metropolis, much like akira, i could go on about the prophetic things i noticed in this film, its a whole list of things i think i could make an entire video about, its all very interesting! There's an even deeper level to it than most may not realize! Prophetic writers tend to really grab peoples attention for a moment, but then are forgotten about because people unconsciously avoid difficult truths, or its hard for people to grasp these things, jules vern was another prophetic writer and wrote about submarines way before they ever existed! If you have read this far, Godbless! 😊

I 100% relate to how shows lack seriousness and sincerity. That’s what put me off anime in general. There is no depth and layers to so many shows. It doesn’t have to be The Great Gatsby deep but they should at least try! It makes the shows feel like it’s not worth watching. It can be funny and be a hit of dopamine, but there is nooo impact that would make you remember the anime. A recent show Frieren, has picked up my interest in anime because there is actual depth in the story and characters. Art doesn’t need to be visually impressive, its context needs to be impactful.

@@MediaIsMythic Ok, that's good to know. It's 100% not my internet. Because this video is the only video that it happened to. So there are two things that could be happening here. Either youtube does that on purpose to downgrade this video and viewership, or the video is simply cached on a server far away and not yet one near me, or the video is cached on a slower more busy server than most other videos I watch. Though I wonder why it keeps happening. Like when I go back to the start of the video the lag shouldn't happen again because the video should be cached in the browser, yet it happens again at exactly the same time 3 times in a row. I wonder how that can be an internet problem. That would mean the video is flushed right the second it played and when I jump back 10 seconds it's reloading everything from the server... Edit: Okay today happened exactly the same, a lag at the same time in the video like yesterday. So I opened my capture software to capture it and now the lag doesn't happen anymore. I hate when that happens. It's like that playthrough of a game I had once where everytime I couldn't finish the level because of a bug. So I started recording my playthrough of that level to send the clip to the devs. And that time the bug didn't happen and I was able to solve the level for the first time and the recording was useless. Edit2: Now it's even lagging more than yesterday. But I give up. It's the only video where this happens to me.

Obviously inspired by the Body Thetans from Scientology. I'm not sure what Lucas's motivation was. He's either mocking Scientology (since Midichlorians are good instead of bad) or else he's trying to mainstream one of the central ideas of that religion.
