Id love a video showing how to do this. I want to go this route but have so many questions... why is the metal bracket needed? does the screen not fit properly within the MFD? Whats the setup process look like when its all done and i plug into pc? how do i make he display i want go within the mini display? I cant find a single motion video showing how this process is done. Hoping reddit comes thru. Will prob end up buying a complete one for this reason. If the metal bracket is not needed can i still put the screen in the MFD? if so, ill do this. surely there is info out there on for when its complete. thanks friend
@@c0pe777 thanks for your interest. To answer very quickly, the only thing the bracket is doing is providing something for the screen to rest on. You can hopefully see that the screen is wider than the MFD buttons. Putting a full tutorial together takes a lot of time and I’m sure I’ll still get questions. Nobody showed me what to do. I usually just make stuff up as I go. I suggest doing some research and figuring out what works best for you. There’s a lot of material available online. The video is just to show what can be achieved with some basic materials. If you don’t have much programming and electronics experience then buying a complete setup is probably best. Winwing units aren’t too expensive.

DCS-BIOS is a plugin (like TacView) so it doesn't modify core DCS files.
Nice Video and good cutting. Today i think DCS looks really good and cannot imagine, that it could be better. But in the year 2055 i think, it looks like the game from 1994 compare to the game from 2055. :D
I wonder if this works in VR, I’m playing around with the pass thru settings and it would awesome if this works. It doesn’t work using the iPad as mfd when in vr
I don’t have VR yet, but apparently DCS BIOS has issues with VR.
Nice job man, great vid. What is the piece that the Arduino board is sitting on? Am I seeing it correctly that the Arduino somehow connects to that bottom piece allowing for a solder free connections for the wiring?

is the screen connected to your computer directly or to an arduino?
The driver board connects to the computer via USB.
Hey! Is the icp keyboard is part of this code? Do i need another arduino and different code to make the keyboard ?
The keyboard I used connects directly to the PC via USB and comes with its own configuration software.

Happy New Year. This particular approach won't work with BMS because it relies on DCS BIOS code to receive data from DCS. Perhaps something similar exists for BMS but I'm not sure. You can find a wiring diagram at the github link in the description.

It's connected by USB, so it should be OK, but I haven't tested it.
Any thoughts on those $300 displays on AE? For example, the "TFT Full Color Screen 600X600 DPI PC USB F16MFD Cockpit Flight Simulator"? I'd like to make a (Dear imuGui) game that simulates a helicopter cockpit (like the one from DCS AH-64D) that runs inside one of these displays, but also actuates some relays connected via usb whenever a button is pressed!
Hi, the reason I did this project is because I personally think that paying $300 for a display is a bit of a waste of money. If I was going to buy a professional display, I'd go with the Winwing MFD's, however I don't think you'd be able to modify them easily for what you want to do.

Hi, I used wires that came with the display. Look for jumper wires female to female on Google.

Yes DCS BIOS must be running while you play DCS.
@@JSDCS it is and port is connected. My display shows nothing though. In f16 or f18. The leds flash on the board when I flick the switch. Is the wiring the same for different lcd screens? If so il connect another screen and test it

I'm not sure. That would need to be implemented by the DCS-BIOS export code.

No sorry, the code is specific to DCS.
i'm pretty sure there is a way to get the ddi from msfs onto the screen you would have to do some digging on that though

According to google there are many potential causes for this error. Have you disconnected everything from the Arduino before uploading? Can you upload a basic sketch to the Arduino? Been trying to find a square display monitor but no company seems to be manufacturing those, had to settle with a similar one as yours.
Can I ask how you reduced the MFD scale to fit within the Thrustmaster cougar? I have mounted my screens but the MFD is outside the Cougar MFD

Looking at Aliexpress now. Can I use 7 inch display (800x600) instead of 8 inch (1024x768) ?
It should be ok. The inner window area of the MFD is 4.2 x 4.2 inches. A 7 inch diagonal converts to a 5.6 x 4.2 inch area for an 800x600 ratio. You'll probably need to invent your own mounting arrangement.
I want to ask how you power it? Standart from a PC from a usb port or via some kind of charger?
I just use a USB charger to save using a port on my PC.

No, this works like a programmable keyboard. It uses whatever key combinations are set in the DCS keyboard settings.

Question : I thought I build myself a DED for my cockpit.... First idea was ONLY to install a tiny TFT display which is powered by the pc graphics card ? Wouldn't that also work? 🤔🤔THX 👍👍👍
It's possible to export some cockpit displays, like the MFD's and RWR, to a second monitor. But I don't know if the DED can be exported in this way.
Yes, using Helios you can do this, Helios will allow you to output anything to a display, rwr, ded, hsi, compass, aoa indiciator…everything

This version of the code only works for the F-16 and F/A-18. The code needs modifications to work with other aircraft.

Yes, just plug an hdmi cable (and usb power cable) into the driver board and it will appear as a second monitor.

It’s going to be difficult to debug this remotely. 1. Have you used Arduino’s before? 2. Have you loaded the code onto the Arduino? 3. Have you tried the demo code for the screen that the supplier provides on their website?

Sorry to hear that. It’s possible to damage the display by connecting it to 5V supply instead of the 3.3V pin. Not sure what else it could be.
Ive got my screen and nano all hooked up and when i connect i get the turn on screen and f16 mode, but when in game i cant seem to get any information out. have i done something wrong with my sketch or is it a DCS bios chair to keyboard error?
it was definatly chair to keyboard error, i forgot to install the f16 plugin in dcs bios lol
