How to Pick Service Dog Tasks
มุมมอง 578ปีที่แล้ว
How do you pick what tasks to train your service dog (SD)? "Task Shopping" is where you look at a list of tasks other handlers use for them self and you train your dog the task even if its not super useful to you. The service dog community labels this as "Task Shopping" and is generally frowned upon. I under stand as a new handler navigating the world of service dogs is hard. I hope this video ...

One of the few dog breeds this would work with for that unsecure of a "carrier"... looks more like a basic platform.

Looked this up for my Service Dog. I chew gum all the time and have never thrown a piece on the ground. So frustrating. It's kind of like when I accidentally roll my wheelchair thru dog poop some able-bodied person did not pick up.

Thanks for this. I remembered the peanut butter solution as a kid, figured it would work on dogs. A search for "dog stepped in gum" confirmed. We had just come back from Frisbee, so it took him a while to care about the peanut butter. but once he cooled off and had enough water, it worked brilliantly!

Aren't you supposed to let it dry? That is why it is leaving behind the "stain." However, I am very paranoid about my dogs touching hot concrete (I grew up in So-Cal and know how that stuff can burn your feet in seconds). If there is no avoiding crossing concrete or blacktop with my service dog I normally have my husband pick her up and carry her but she is 45 lbs. it's getting harder to do especially now that we have two Dogs. Neither of them will walk with boots on. Do, you or anyone have any recommendations on how to get them to accept the boots?

My dog decided that the only way to close the door is if he nibbles on the blue tape. The transition between using tape and not using tape is gonna be ruff (pun intended)🐶

*For those with nut allergy 🚫🥜 Coconut 🥥 oil works great too!* Thank you for this Casie! I woke up this morning to find my guy Pacey had gotten gum all over one of his paws 🐾 I'm guessing the (Big Red Cinnamon) piece of (chewed) gum I put on my travel mug before falling asleep (I was exhausted) was too tempting or fell off and he thought was fair game until it bound his pads and toes together in a sticky mess 😢😮 I'm allergic to peanut butter 🚫 🥜 so after trimming the gum encased fur, I grabbed my organic coconut oil (he has his own little jar for dry skin patches) I gave him a good old paw massage. It worked great, was way less sticky/ messy and smells wonderful! I only wish my guy was as calm as yours bc getting him to lay down and in a position to do this was equivalent to wrestling an alligator 🐊( he's an 80# Border Collie, Black Lab, Pit mix) and my thighs and forearms are now all scratched up 😞 good thing Coconut oil works good for my skin too 😂

Do you have any tips for teaching my dog to close a sliding screen door? She picked up quickly the ‘touch’ command using the blue tape on my hand and then the sliding door. But I’m not sure how to get her to push it shut with her nose. She has no trouble opening it when she wants to go outside.

Im trying to teach this to our mini-pig. In 15 min i got him to understand the word door (with the help of the tape) but when i ask him to close the door he either looks at the door or touches it very softly without moving it. No further progress has been made. He clearly knows the word door and even walks towards it from a distance when i say door but i can't get him to touch the door hard enough to move it. Any hints are welcome!

Attaching a leash to your wheelchair is a terrible idea. I’m a para with a manual sport wheelchair. Getting dumped from a cheep hair coil mean death for one of us. Cuts and sores from the fall don’t heal on us like you walkers. Broken bones don’t heal right. Etc. TO FELLOW DISABLED. DO NOT ATTACH UOUR LEASH TO CHAIR OR WRAP AROUND WRIST.
