Their entire business model is based on getting you in the door with some "great" deal, and then WAY overcharging for absolutely everything else-even things that other domain registrars give you for free. As an example, a new .com domain on Godaddy is $0.01 (but you must buy 3 years at a time at $43.99). Or you can buy just 1 year at $11.99 (then it renews at $21.99/year). At Cloudflare, the exact same domain is $10.44/year-no stupid upsells and renews at the same rate. Additionally, they give you free CDN, free domain protention, etc..two things that will easily double Godaddy's price. Every single one of their services, from registrar to hosting to CMS' to their domain marketplace, absolutely sucks ass and is overpriced to the 9's. On top of all that, in the past they have been caught buying up domains you search for themselves-only to try and sell them back to you at a premium price. They say they don't do that anymore, but I do not trust anything they say. Their support is also criminally negligent. One time while I was on the phone with them about an issue with the server, they deleted a client's website. Just poof, gone-her entire livelyhood, gone. It was early in my career, and thanks to that experience, I now always keep multiple backups of every site I build, but most people don't do this (their backup service also costs a small fortune.). Ultimately, they have clever marketing and prey on people who are inexperienced while offering an inferior service at a significant premium.

Yes, I did cover this in my video. I try to avoid getting people in the shots other than my family (for whom I have permission/model releases). Other people can be in the background as long as they're not distinguishable OR you can sell as editorial under some circumstances.

The bagel place and the hummus place were different restaurants-the hummus place was Lebanese or something. And neither one of them ended being up very good. Hummus was bland, and bagel was dry unfortunately. But they both made nice stock video

When you add value to a domain name, it could come in many different formats. I have sold domains due to the high quality content, traffic, community/SM, product, revenue, or some combination of these things. You have to create something of value. A domain by itself-even a great one-holds less value today than ever before, but people buy assets.

This video is a few years old, so the info might be out of date. However, when I first put it together, the other videos talking about this issue in particular were just putting out guesses based on their observations. I spent 10 years as a software developer, and I used that experience to study all the literature that DD's development team was putting out (which was a lot). I wouldn't expect the average driver to look at that literature, and I'd expect even fewer of them to understand it. I stand by what I said in this video, I still think it was the best at the time. Things may have changed since then, though, and I've moved on.

If you're going to go by that definition, the only way passive income exists is if you were born with millions in an interest bearing cash account (but of course I could argue that's not passive either as one of your ancestors must have worked for the money and put it away in a responsible manner [ie both worked and planned]). As I have made clear in other videos, passive income is a spectrum-as in, some sources are more passive than others. In pretty much every level of the spectrum, there will be some work involved to at least create an asset. Stock video happens to be the _most_ passive of all my income sources (except my interest bearing cash, but that's not terribly signficant). I worked very hard for several years to create a large library of digital assets. Yes, it was work, however, I haven't done anything with it in ~2 years and it's still generating thousands every month. That's not fraud, that's EXACTLY what IRL passive income is: create an asset, sell it indefinitely. To give you an example, I actually hired videographers to help increase my stock library. I paid them hourly for exclusive rights to their footage. THEY made an immediate wage, while I made an investment. That footage that I hired them to make has paid for itself 20x over, and continues to do so every day. Passive income is any income not directly tied to your time. Passive income without any work is a fantasy. It does not exist in the real world.

@@callmelil Sorry, you're wrong. I'm an experienced financial professional. I know what passive income is. And it does not exist. All income requires work, even if you inherit money because in order to generate income you need to watch over your investments or investment professional, property management company, etc. The passive income pitch is a complete lie.

A "reasonable person" (legal term) would understand it as "a steady stream of unearned income (another legal term that essentially means 'income from investments') that doesn't require active traditional work to maintain" (keyword is maintain). This reasonable person would understand it this way partly because that's the actual definition and partly because this person is not a raging lunatic (that's a big part of being considered reasonable in the legal sense). You've taken a commonly used term with a pretty well established and understood definition, applied your own definition to it, and decided the whole thing doesn't exist-simply because your incorrect definition is quite literally impossible. This is a result of having a high aperture. My camera/lens setup films at f/1.4 (you can google that), which gives it that blur. You don't have to have a blur to sell videos and I think if you were to add it artificially (like what smartphones do in portrait mode), most of those videos/photos wouldn't pass inspection by the agencies.

Thank you! I appreciate your comment. It's certainly not an easy decision, and not for everyone either. If I was 30 years older-looking at the tech and prices of the time (and how people had to work), I probably wouldn't have done it either. I dedicated a whole month to the process-impossible for someone with a normal job today, let alone in the early www days. In 94, it was more expensive (& probably couldn't have trusted an Indian clinic), and they were using the old plug/punch method. Even as it is today, I was actually more on the fence than I led on in the video. 30 years ago, I'm sure I would have been on the other side of the fence.
