Is the ZR2 is the cheapest option for a reason!
considering how young this truck is this does not bode well for long-term durability.

The zr2 , is not a drag race car. It’s built for off road. Also is a turbo engine you have to build boost before you launch. Dumb video drivers is clueless
Im unsure what this video is about really, i have a 2024 rst redline max tow with the 3.73 gear and its only rated for 13400... so youre trying to overload your truck in a worst case scenario situation? I have a dumpster rental business and tow my 14k dump trailers every day with 0 issues...
My 2021 3.0 had same problem at 30k miles, they replaced it but at 92k its doing it again... idk if they want to replace it this time, I dont even speed with this truck, its slow
6.0 sec flat 0-60 mph on a Colorado base model. I own ZR2, it doesn't bother me. I know my specs, the ZR2 is the slowest due to extra weight and the big tires but a ZR2 is not that slow. A TACOMA 3G was slow, I had two of them, the transmission is what killed it. The 2.7T engine is a great engine but we can't compare it with a Ranger raptor because that is a different tier. It can compete with a Ranger which is equivalent in engine although the Ranger doesn't have that much torque or HP but it has a decent transmission and less weight. Your best value is the Trail boss. I personally did not get a Trail boss because it doesn't have the optional LED lights but for the price is a heck of a truck. I went to Oro Ford on Oracle, AZ and they wanted $10K over MSRP for a Ranger Raptor.. no thanks! Dodge is offering 20% of MSRPs(Jim Click) on their Rams and Silverados are discounted $10000 in the same town(Watson Chevrolet, O'rilleys Chevrolet). www.motortrend.com/reviews/2023-chevrolet-colorado-lt-first-test-review/
You are doing it wrong!!! you need to use it on Baja mode. I clocked 7.0 sec on my ZR2 at 2600 ft elevation on 87oct gas with Dragy. Baja mode lets you launch hard. You need to brake boost them. I repeat, you are doing it on the slowest possible way.
@@rs3tuber425 but that's not how it works in the real world on the street, I did try it though ,I got 9.8 seconds.
I drive one everyday and it's way faster than this
Do you think the type of transmission fluid, engine oil, and coolant fluids could help? I believe not all fluids are created equal. Try replacing all the fluids with a 100% synthetic, do the tow test, then do a fluid analysis (before and after). Or, change the fluids more frequently since you're not going to escape the heat when towing like that. Just a thought.
@@Mr.Hoskin they are all full synthetic

Indeed. 6.1 sec 0-60. I have aa ZR2, it doesn't bother me but yes, you are correct.
When you say your at 15000 lbs, is that what your towing and the truck itself, or just the tow weight? I was planning on towing a 37ft rv with a dry weight of 8500.
nice vid but aren't those oil temps on the verge of catastrophic? 280 F for oil is destroying the oils ability to lubricate isn't it?

Damn dude I feel your pain, haven't experienced the rumbling l but ever since my air intake install I get reduced acceleration and check engine light on, I can usually pull over turn it off wait a few minutes and then it will drive normally again but the RPMs stay super high when I let off the pedal. Currently in a buy back situation with GM but really just want an engineer to look at it first.

@@kx8960 nope it's how they act when it's over 80 here.

@@mathieulavoie424 I made them buy it back. $75k and can't even bother to fix the issue the first 2 times.
I went and test drove a 2023 Colorado ZR2 after owning a 2014 F150 Ecoboost for 9 years and, after the one drive, it was pretty apparent to me that the powertrain wasnt making anywhere near the stated power and torque numbers. The bottom end felt very soft. When I rolled into the throttle, I felt similar to you when you were yelling "GO! GO! GO!" 🤣 IDK if its the engine tuning, or the 8 speed transmission, but I left the dealer and drove my 9 year old F150 home. As soon as I got in my F150 and hit the road I was immediately presented with the solid wave of torque I expected form the ZR2. This was comparing a 6400 lb F150(6160 lb curb weight with a Leer fiberglass topper and a few other things bolted on) on 35" tires to an almost exactly 5000 lb stock ZR2 on 33" tires. My F150 was rated at 420 ft-lbs to the ZR2's 430. The ZR2 should have felt way stronger between the nearly 1400 lbs less weight, slight more torque and 2" smaller tires. Your video, and many of the TFLTruck videos of the Colorado with the HO tune, confirm what I felt in my test drive. They just don't seem to make the power, and more importantly torque, that GM claims. I know a lot of people seem to like the motor but I really wonder if most of them were coming from an NA V6, and not a good turbo gas engine or diesel that actually makes the rated torque, and so their bar was just low to begin with.
@@Jay-me7gw yeah they must be and even then to be honestly the 3.6 has an almost flat torque curve it just never makes a shit ton of it, but it pulls harder and harder as the RPM rises I actually prefer that to this... because this you only have torque real low down but anytime you're full throttle you're outside of the torque curve IMMEDIATELY . You're up at the high RPM and the engine Is struggling to breathe. the engine makes 430 torque around 3,000 RPM, That's if it takes 2.5 seconds to get up to 3,000 RPM without shooting past it... But at the horsepower peak of 310 you're only making 290 lb feet of torque at the shift... Which is only a little bit better than the 3.6. It takes 2.5 seconds for the engine to get to full torque there is no gear well that's going to happen real world unless your intentionally trying to lug the truck out and trying to avoid a downshift.
Unless that truck and truck bed is filled with concrete I am not sure how you are getting 15000 pounds.
@@adamh3272 every thing here is 15k, actually about 300 lbs over when full of fuel.
@@duramaxadventures5832 oh ok you are talking both trucks and trailer. I misunderstood.
It's hilarious people brag about this truck. The base Ranger with the 2.3 outruns this all day. And the new 2.7 is even wildly quicker. Also... "I'm loaded, lets see what this looks like" are my words to live by.
What’s funny is no one is bragging about the Ford Ranger. 😂 Let’s take them off road. This ZR2 would make that Ford look like a Power Wheels.
@MatthewPacer You must live under a rock. The Ranger is highly touted in the automotive community. Outfit a Ranger the same way as this truck is and it'll perform just as good and better. The engine options are objectively far superior. You're clearly a fanboy that can't see beyond bias.
@@chadgraber4575 so if you modify the Ranger it might be better. Got it. 😁
@@MatthewPacer No, clown. Take the equivalent loaded Ranger to a ZR2 and it spanks it. In the ZR2's case, it's the Raptor. Better engine and better performance. Doesn't even compare. Better offroad dynamics as well. Most automotive channels echo this. But go down a trim level or 2. The base FX4 is superior to a Z71. Again, better engine, better performance, and better factory suspension/offroad capabilities. Even the standard 4x4 base truck is better than the GM equivalent. Then go to the extreme and compare the Bison. So if you took a Ranger and added the same things they do - better offroad goodies, 35s, etc. - yes, the Ranger would beat it.
@@chadgraber4575 prove it.

@@AndrewVanMeer do you live in a mountainous area? I only had 1,400 lb of payload so do bear that in mind. That only gives you 550 lb for the driver and anything else that you put into the truck. For me personally the fuel economy when towing was about the same if not slightly better than a heavy duty diesel, and the unloaded highway economy was about 13mpg better than the L5P. If I hadn't already owned two 3.0's, I would have bought a another one. but instead I went with the Colorado which has been.... less than ideal when it comes to fuel economy. Over 11,000 mi I've averaged 14.2MPG. on this 3.0 AT4 that you see in the video, over 25,000 miles I got 22, but almost half of that mileage was towing.

@@duramaxadventures5832 wow that’s impressive. I have a 2024 LZ0 with the max trailering and 3.73 gears and have yet to put it to the test.
@@devinsampare9483 I was extremely unhappy with GM. In 2020 they had the secret package called the diesel off-road package and it came with 3.73s and mud terrains. I think they were fishing to see if they would have warranty issues. Suddenly in 2022 Max trailering becomes available. Unfortunately the diesel off-road package also included 4 low, Max trailering does not. However. If you want 4 Lo with a 3 l Duramax and max trailering there is a secret. All high countries come with 4 Lo as part of their whole brand image for that trim level thing. So if you order Max trailering on a high country it is the only way in all of GM to get a 3 l Duramax with four low and Max trailering.
There’s a reason I avoided four cylinder turbos for towing. Went with the Pro-4X and towed about 6,000lbs (car and trailer) about 150 miles and it was smooth, never stressed, and did better than I expected. Four cylinders and turbos will just get overworked.

Does the LZ0 perform better? I am curious how much the additional power helps. It would be nice to pad the max numbers out a bit. I have the LZ0 in a Sierra 1500 and my truck also maxes out at 15,000lbs GCWR
The biggest limitation here was EGT and charge air temp. That’s why his torque never exceeded about 310 when the engine can put out over 450. EGT can’t be helped a whole lot but the charge air cooler and intercooler could be upgraded.
