It's so nice to scare you!
This short, if I'm not mistaken, was made to be shown before the screening of the movie The Rescuers Down Under. And overall it's a fun Mickey Mouse short. It's interesting to note that Disney almost adapted this novel into a feature film around the year 2000. The movie The Emperor's New Groove was initially going to be a musical animation along the lines of The Lion King, and was going to be inspired by this story. That obviously didn't happen, but it's interesting.
Rubbish atleast they tried
Speaking of revenge, may I recommend a book where revenge takes part in a retelling starring a prince and princess arranged to be wed thanks to the King and Queen; and Mer King with the help of dark magic while a plot to take down the kingdom from the inside is happening throughout the story. Introducing a YA Dark Fantasy of the Little Mermaid retelling called The Book of Water by Morgan Reilly. The first book in The Dark Library series.
This sounds really interesting. I think mermaid kingdoms are an underused setting. I'm going to look that up right now. Thank you for telling me about The Book of Water.
Just ordered a copy of The Book of Water. Thanks again, Grekoy!
@@m.v.p.knight You're welcome. Maybe I should start making book recommendations videos. I do have a library of interesting books I want to share.
I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting Sally to find Xmas town like Jack. But instead she discovered a Xmas town that was completely different from the original story. And then most of the book takes place in Xmas town. Not to mention, Sally’s character feels a little different here. I can’t really explain it, but I found myself a lot of times thinking “I don’t think Sally would say/do that.” After finishing the book, I think I would have had the story go another way. Like, Sally finds Xmas town just like Jack but rushes back either accidentally leaving the portal door open or being able to only tell a few wrong people in Halloween town about it (since she’s always either ignored or trapped by Dr Finklestine), and someone like Oogie (who is never even in the book!!!) sneaking into Xmas town and wreaking havoc!!! But, things I loved about this book is that we DID get to see more of Xmas town even if I felt it might have been a bit too much. It was also fantastic to finally see more interaction between Jack and Sally, who are probably together for about half the whole story.
I probably should have replied sooner, but better late than never, right? I forgot to mention Oogie in my review. I did say that this book implies that Jingles is still a problem in the movie's core timeline, but I didn't talk about how Oogie was never dealt with in the book's timeline. I guess that's the law of equivalent exchange. It would have been nice for Oogie to wreak havoc in Christmas town in the book, but at least something like that did happen in Kingdom Hearts 2 if I'm remembering correctly. And I agree, the exploration of Christmas Town and the interactions between Jack and Sally were very nice.
ThAt got me rolling 😂😂
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.
I just read this it was slow and very long I wish it was shorter I feel like it could have been more interesting. It was also really confusing.
I agree. The book needed to do more in less time. Hopefully the next Disney Prince book will be better.
As a Fan of The nightmare before Christmas the only thing I liked about the Book were the Sally and Jack scenes but that was it and even then it kinda felt like Sally was annoyed with Jack most of the time. It made me want to see what was going to happen next but overall I didn’t get anything from the book. What you said about comparing it to a video game was 100% correct. I just feel like every author doesn’t understand Sally or Jack and does a cardboard cutout of them with no depth or personality.
I'm sorry the book let you down. Thank you for the perspective and for saying my analogy was correct. I can see why not everyone would like Sally's Lament. When will we ever get a Nightmare Before Christmas book that we can all (realistically speaking, that most of us can) like?
As a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, I'm tempted to get book but im not a big fan of characters being inconsistent. Im glad to hear Jack and Sally are spending more time together and saving each other.
I think you'd like it. The inconsistency isn't really in the characters' personalities if that helps.
@m.v.p.knight True but I'm also strict on timelines. I would like to have a timeline that is possible and won't go against characters personality, morals, values, and more. For example, Harry Potter The Curse Child.
Brad Bird might disown that book for going against everything he worked into.
I would be upset if I was him. It's a good thing that this was a twisted tale and those are not set in the cannon timelines. It saves Brad Bird the trouble of retconning the book.
@@m.v.p.knight Who knows, he may as well declare the "Suddenly Super" part to be non-canon.
Interested in reading a book anthology from the villains persoective? I have a book called Villainous An anthology of fairytale retellings. The villains features are evil queen, rumpelstiltskin, gaint from jack and the beanstalk, maleficent, orgress from rapunzel, witch from hansel and gretel, big bad wolf, pied piper, Bluebeard, and stepmother from cinderella. In addition, buying this book will contribute in charity for kids in need.
I'll consider it. Thank you for the recommendation.
@@m.v.p.knight You're welcome. I wanted to leave a comment but nothing came to mind so I left a book recommendation instead.
@@grekoy I appreciate that. Reading your comments is always encouraging. I can understand how discussion of the okay-ish Prince of Glass and Midnight could make someone draw blank. I think you did the right thing by telling me about Villainous instead.
@@m.v.p.knight Aw thank you.
This right here is the book that officially killed my trust in Disney books. Its always confused the crap out of me why the BatB retellings try to make the Sorceress sympathetic by making the Prince straight up evil and her his jilted lover. She's still hands down the bigger a-hole in this scenario... especially since they also upgrade the curse to where all the innocent people she curses along with him basically die if he doesn't break the curse in time?? It especially confuses (and angers) me because it would be *stupidly* easy to make both of them sympathetic. Just give the Sorceress prophecy powers! Have her foresee the prince snowballing into an evil dictator without drastic intervention. The prince doesn't technically deserve to be cursed, since at present he's just a bit of a spoiled brat, and the castle staff definitely doesn't deserve it, but its in the name of preventing an awful future for absolutely everyone.
Personally, I think the Enchantress shouldn't be framed as in the right for cursing the staff unless seeing the future told her it was completely necessary. Having her see the future of dictatorship you mentioned would help, but to really get me to sympathize with the Enchantress, she would have to either know cursing the staff is critical to preventing tragedy or she would need to admit that she was wrong to curse the staff and she has seen the error of her ways.
@@m.v.p.knight Yes! Exactly. I'm blanking on how exactly it would be done but I'm sure there are more than one ways to do just that. And that's just if you want the Enchantress to be a good guy or sympathetic. You could also just make her an a-hole with a god complex who is just looking for an excuse to curse people. Like OG Maleficent.... Who also got the jilted lover backstory in her movie remake. XP Ick. Lack of imagination much?
Love your commentary.
Thank you. I'm glad you love it. Maybe I should do a Rapunzel audiobook someday.
I would love that.
I was unhappily reminded of this book's existence recently so I decided to hunt down some negative reviews to watch XD It's astonishing how utterly dedicated the author seems to be to making sure Sally was the Maximum Victim possible. Everything from tweaking all of the characters around her to be incompetent or nasty, to even taking away her fiery, independent personality. Not to mention her smarts?? . . . . . I mean what's with having Sally have to be the one to unleash the Sandman? You have the perfect characters to to that in the Trick-or-Treater brats looking for a new boss but noooooo we gotta make sure the *Protagonists* are the ones causing the Big Problem in their stories these days! Even the ones that are supposed to be smart? What the heck?? I agree, There's absolutely no way that Jack motherflipping "how dare you treat my friends so shamefully?" Skellington would have been bothered by Sally's situation and done nothing about it. He either didn't notice it at all, or he just assumed it was their bit (because the residents of Halloween town make a show out of being miserable as a rule so it might be difficult to realize if someone is legit miserable) or he figured it was something the Doctor and Sally should at least try to hash out themselves before attempting an intervention. I mean Sally was clearly able to get her way since she was out so much, why would he assume she needed help? Yeah I don't like this book at all. I'm glad the pretty cover didn't trick me into buying it
Thank you for writing all that. I agree. I almost think of Sally from the movie and Sally from the Long Live the Pumpkin Queen as separate characters because the two being one just makes no sense.
@@m.v.p.knight Didn't mean to write quite that much XD But yeah. PQ Sally is an AU Sally for sure. Almost makes me want to try writing an NBC sequel myself
So far I'm loving this.
Thank you. I'm glad. I was a little worried about the reception because people are used to let's plays that are over an hour long and this is sort of a different approach. It's good to have positive feedback.
You're welcome.
The King's last words sound like something Walt would've said to Mickey before he died. 8'c
The Last time this short was acknowledged was in the queue of Mickey & Minnie’s runaway railway at Disneyland and Mickey’s calendar in epic Mickey.
Actually, no! In the "Wonderful Spring of Mickey Mouse" (the D+ exclusive Paul Rudish shorts,) Mickey's a hoarder, and among the objects and memories he's most attached to is his Prince crown. We even see a memory version of Prince Mickey wearing it! :D
That’s creepy
Seriously why the heck did they completely forget this movie? The trailer was on every TV in America… OK maybe not every TV I'm just saying this from my perspective when I was a kid when I saw it.😅 But it was a good movie, why not bring it up again?
If it's any comfort, at least WE will remember The Prince and the Pauper.
@@m.v.p.knight that is true, but the next generation needs to know about this as well. It wouldn't kill them to show it on Disney Channel every now and then. It almost feels like they might be ashamed of it for some reason… That's just my opinion, but why Not show it again?
@@Ani8900 They should show it on Disney Channel. It would be a lot better than a lot of stuff they have there.
@@m.v.p.knight well I wouldn't say all of it, some of the cartoons aren't bad at all take Haley's on it. I like the dynamic of it and they keep a lot of the slap taken shenanigans at the right level for a cartoon… But some still need work..... a lot of work
@@Ani8900 Yeah, the cartoons on Disney Channel tend to be a lot better than the live action shows. Well, at least it was like that the last time I checked. I haven't paid much attention to the live action stuff on Disney Channel for a long time. What I do know is that The Ghost and Molly McGee was pretty good and that's a cartoon. I have seen Hailey's On It. In my personal opinion, there were some funny episodes, but the romance part was a disaster. Hailey passes up every opportunity to make it happen with Scott despite the fact that they keep saying the future is doomed if she doesn't. I might think Hailey's On It needs a little constructive criticism, but I see it's merit and I'm glad you like.
3:36 that’s the weirdest animation error in this cartoon
I agree. I couldn't see anything to compete with that level of weirdness.
@@m.v.p.knight What's weird about that animation mistake is that I don't think you'd see it (or at the very least it wouldn't be as noticeable) if it was cropped in the 4:3 aspect ratio. But at the same time I can't say this was made with that format specifically. After all, this did play with Rescuers Down Under as a double feature of sorts and they both were made in the 16:9 aspect ratio (or letterbox as some called it back then). Maybe it was made to suit both aspect ratios because this did end up on VHS not too long after the theatrical release, which is probably why they let that error slide because it goes by so fast and probably won't be noticed in the cropped version
@@MegaAnimationFan If I'm not mistaken, the Rescuers Down Under wasn't a big success, so it could be that when they made the VHS version of the Prince and the Pauper, they didn't want to put in the extra effort to fix it because they felt like they had wasted enough time and money already.
@@m.v.p.knight Yeah, that could also be a factor
2:43 Absolutely warranted, I agree. Mickey is being an absolute menace
Thank you for warranting me.
I love Sally with my whole heart I was so disappointed with this book. The author focuses more on the story and not the characters that’s why nothing makes sense and twist makes no sense. There is going to be a sequel but I don’t think anyone will read it.
I agree. Thank you and I'm sorry that you were let down. As for that sequel; thank you for telling me about that. I like knowing about these Disney books. That being said, I won't be touching that sequel with thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot pole.
Ariel NOT abandoning her family to go frolic with some guy she doesn't even know? Hell yeah!

Yes, it is. Thank you.
Yeah the Scottish one is pretty accurate though
I wonder what it could be. Mmmm, I wonder.
I'm sure I'll figure out what it is some day.
@@m.v.p.knight lmao
I believe the Renaissance had the best package of romances that Disney had done because the characters were shown to have flaws that they needed to work on to better themselves. Belle and the Beast have that kind of development with Beast becoming a better person after Belle tried to run away and got ambushed by wolves which he fought to save her from, before the two of them warm up to one another leading to their dance and him giving his blessing to go and save her father, giving up his chance to be human for her happiness, until she returns to save him later from Gaston. Aladdin and Jasmine also had that kind of development with Aladdin getting over his insecurities about Jasmine apparently laughing at him for being a street rat which led to him lying about being a Prince to try to win her heart. He learns from that of course and realises that he has to be himself first and foremost before deciding on bigger things. Hercules and Meg also had some flaws at first with Meg feeling cynical about love at first due to all the bad experiences she has had with men, until she warms up to Hercules and ends up sacrificing her life for him until he revives her. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzgibbert is also up there being the only one from the Revival Age since they also develop a liking for one another over time and help each other through so much.
As much as we can still cherish movies like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Hercules and Tangled, we still need Disney to bring it back.
Dude. Raya and the Last Dragon has a terrible message about trust and Raya is one of the stupidest princesses ever, who learns that horrible lesson.
I feel real disappointed in you for not showing Cinderella rest in peace scene also i feel some people just think these movies are good. I feel zombies 3 ruined the whole Disney zombies franchise i hope zombies 4 redeems itself I thought that was going to be a big war in zombies 3 with all the monsters but no just music 🙄 third ones trailer was click bait

RISE OF RED WAS HORRIBLE, it had none of the characters from the original, I know they’re kids but it’s still a weak point, even if they did want the whole “Evil kids” thing they could’ve had all the Disney villains ,but above all it was “EEEH🫤"
I'm sorry you didn't like it. I had fun, as evidenced by the part where I couldn't stop laughing at how dumb the Rise of Red was being, but that was only because my mindset was very different. I can't blame anyone for hating this movie.
I don't get why people don't like the third movie. I think the 3rd was the best, the addition of hades was awesome, Audrey was an awesome villain, and the message was definitely the best. Everyone is capable of good and bad no matter where they come from.
Well said.
Yeah it would make more sense for Philip and Aurora to be the parents and not Beauty and the Beast. Can you imagine if Beast, despite being free from his curse, gets sent to the isle of the lost and Beauty willingly goes with him? They would be the one good thing on that island and maybe their goodness would pass onto the next generation.
I never thought of the idea of them being sent to the isle. That would have been brilliant. It would have shown how unfair the judgement would was, too. Good thinking.
@@m.v.p.knight Thank you.
@@grekoy And thank YOU for saying Phillip and Aurora would have made more sense as Ben's parents.
@@m.v.p.knight You're welcome.
@@m.v.p.knight It would be more unfair if Gaston didn't get sent to the isle because from his point of view he was right to believe a person falling for their captor who is a beast isn't right. He doesn't know Beast like Bell do but he can be very convincing in acting the hero. If the audience didn't see things from Bell's point of view, then they would side with Gaston like the townsfolk. For only a small degree because they know he can be vain and doesn't take no for an answer. Giant red flag right there. Pun intended for his red shirt.

Does Batman even know where to send her paycheck?
Batman probably has to keep her cash with him wherever he goes until the next time he happens to see Batgirl.
why do you even read and review these books if you dont like any of these books
To demand better from Disney. The concept of books set in alternate timelines based on Disney movies is something I want to be done well. And to warn fellow Disney fans about how disappointing these books are.
I love this movie honestly because of nostalgia. Also... if she didn't blow the frog a kiss, maybe his obsession with her wouldn't happen. Also the frogs aren't Latino, they're Spanish, so European. Also why is one of the frogs dressed like Napoleon?
I'm glad you like the movie. Not that it excuses what the kidnapping or anything, but yeah, she shouldn't have done that. I honestly wasn't sure which one the frogs were supposed to be; I just figured that some people would make assumptions and be upset about it. Maybe the frog was dressed like that because he can't tell European countries apart?
"You don't want to know what this sick man said after that" had me ROFLing. Dear god. Bluth was supposed to get an Oscar-winning screenwriter on board. But when he went to a Dublin airport to meet the guy, the guy was literally carrying his Oscar and Bluth was like, "ohhhh you're one of THOSE Hollywood people, never mind". So on a time crunch he just wrote the screenplay himself. It was as quarter-baked as you can be with less than 2 years to get a thing made.
Glad you liked that line. The fact that Bluth did that is absurd and fascinating. He should write a book about how to destroy one's self with pride. Thanks for telling me about that.

💡💡💡A great idea occurred to me. We saw the rumor announcement that it was developed by Disney and Pixar in the movie "Incredibles 3" we remember in curious that we saw movies of the Incredibles 1 and 2, Violet has anger towards her families and I saw the book Suddenly Super (A Twisted Tale), thinks that she will become a villainess because she hates them like did to Syndrome in vengeance, except a video announcement on TH-cam, The same words come out of mine from the curious in Incredibles 3 between Violet that I am suspecting that We know how to predict in the future but if you don't believe me, neither do I, I might be willing to make an exchange for Violet is the protagonist of "Incredibles 3" makes it even better that she didn't turn out for "Incredibles 2", they won't think she will become a villainess and this save turns out. Now, do you guys decide what Violet is going to do for Incredibles 3? She is the protagonist as a heroine or she will become a villainess.
