Symphony No. 2 - Borodin (Extended Oboe Parts)
After discovering this little underperformed work via audition excerpts, I noticed Borodin made some strange decisions regarding the oboe parts.
I. Oboe 1 & Oboe 2
II. Oboe 1 & Oboe 2
III. English Horn & Oboe 2
IV. Oboe 1 & Oboe 2
Originally Borodin writes for the 1st oboe to swap to English Horn for the 3rd movement, then back to oboe for the finale while the 2nd oboe takes up the role of "1st" for the 3rd movement. While most orchestras nowadays would just swap the two parts around for the 3rd movement (with Oboe 2 playing the English Horn and Oboe 1 playing the Oboe 2 part), I have actually come across a video where an orchestra had hired an entirely separate player for English Horn while also keeping 2 oboists (3 players in total). The 1st was tacet in the 3rd movement while the English hornist was tacet in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th movements. A little unnecessary if you ask me.
I took upon myself to create 3 oboe parts where each instrument plays in all four movements (Oboe 1-2 & English Horn).
This video is primarily just a play-along video. If you would like the score or parts please email me at owendalton@hotmail.com.

A very short work dedicated to my mother which she requested for her 60th birthday (April 6th). In the future I will record the version you see in the video for English horn and piano. It represents her love for the ocean and the nostalgia I feel when thinking of her. In general the piece is a dedication to any loved ones. Also, if you know it, you'll notice that the 10th pattern in the bass is...

NotePerformer rendition of a piece I've been working on since mid 2023. It has been chosen to take part in the final round of the upcoming Alexander Award Composition Competition where it will be performed and recorded by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. The final round takes place on March 9, 2024 and will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/@MusicScape. "Century Machines is a nod to Centu...

Earlier this year I attended and took part in the 2023 South African Composer's Week. This took place at Stellenbosch University (SU) where I currently study. As postgraduate composition students at SU, some of us were tasked with presenting a laboratory for one of the free lunch-time events happening every day during the week. The result is the following work: Blue Gum Gates (also known as Swe...

I started this work last year originally as a bass clarinet duet, similar to my other one "Pursuit!". Since then I have been slowly working on the piece resulting in the final draft you see here, now with an added contrabass clarinet.

A song I wrote near the end of 2021. I'll admit it's a bit depressing but I like it nonetheless. Hopefully I'll be able to upload a version with an actual singer in the future. Here are the lyrics: "Slowly moving under the ashes, I don't wanna be found. You just can't seem to see what you're doing, I just don't wanna be found. Somewhere in the clouds above, You'll find me on the edge. There won...

April fools!
Such a beautiful and nostalgic piece. This does remind me of going to the beach, how the waves are calm, the sand is toasty on my feet, and the wind blowing calmly on my face. Just beautiful, even if I don’t understand how to read notes or play an instrument.(yet)
Takes me back to being a kid again and playing this on my grandparents' computer when I thought they were asleep. Thank you so so sooo much for reawakening so many wonderful memories 💚
I know all these tracks by heart lol. Somewhere in my brain 🧠
This looks super hard but it has such a unique and cool sound. I love it
Hey brother, I sent over an email. I’d love to have the arrangement!
Sounding great, Owen! I'm looking forwarding to tuning in to hear the live rendition.
This is going to sound so cool live
YES!!
It sounds like a beginning town theme for Dragon Quest
Very cool. I enjoy it a lot.
Storm Peaks is a very underrated zone in my opinion
Ive been looking for this for YEARS. Thank you!
No offense but Mackey fully exploits the sounds a wind band can produce, and it can be difficult or nearly imposible to mimic it in any other way. That's what I love about Mackey.
Sound very good ! Look like very fun fun to play
The storm peaks, taunka and iron dwarf music from wrath are some of my favorite pieces of orchestral music, great job with this!
Hello Mr grasshopper 🤩
algorithm is feeling quirky today i see
Dunno why this showed up in my recommendations, but keep up the good work.
I appreciate the comment :)
that sounds epic
Rarely performed, this work is an astonishing achievement from the pen of an 18 year old studying at the RCM. There is so much to enjoy and to reflect on what was to be written in future years.
That was my intro to Jazz when I just learned computers in 2004 ❤
You damn bloody mad genius, you actually did it… I hope you know you’ve done God’s work here…
Full of interesting ideas and colour. Did you leave it at ten or were there more?
Thanks! I think I might have continued a bit but likely no full movements. Maybe I'll revisit it in the future
I was unable to find any hard information on the composer of these Jazz tunes, but my guess would be Ed Bogas.
sounds really nice
Is there a perusal score of this piece?
Not currently, but I can make one and send it your way when I get the chance?
@@o.dalton194 That would be great! Thank you!
All of your improvs are totally underrated. Great work dude!
I'm trying to find a sax part, please. Really good thoooooooo-

Love this as always, and it had my cat absolutely transfixed the entirety of the piece
Thank you. So much you beautiful creature.
What soundfont do you use for your music? Are they different between songs? I really liked how Hello World sounded.
this sounds like it could be in a 1950s disney animated film
Its starting to sound like a Dragon Quest town theme
I love the story of this one!
I love the vibes of this!
