Matt's Railway Adventures
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 ส.ค. 2013
Hi, I'm Matt, and I'm starting out on my TH-cam journey making videos from as many stations in the UK as I can.
My main aim - to make little videos I enjoy from all railway stations I visit, whether they're a Least Used Station, a request stop or a mainline station. I already plan on trying to visit all the stations in Exeter and Cardiff in one day (not the same day though!).
I'll be releasing a new video once a week at 6.45pm, every Wednesday, and additional videos if I can at other times.
Having lost my ultimate hero and inspiration, my Dad, back in January, this little project is going to be my way of carrying on his legacy.
I hope you look forward to joining the journey with me.
Any questions/enquiries - please email me at the email below.

Let's Visit - Worcester Shrub Hill
The third station of my mini Worcestershire tour, Worcester Shrub Hill.
Three (or is that five) platforms plus two disused platforms? What else is there?

Let's Visit - Worcester Foregate Street

It was wet! Despite the weather, I ventured into Worcester and the busiest of the two stations, which has a rather unique quirk. What is that quirk? Watch on and find out/
I Took the West Somerset Railway Christmas Market Train!
มุมมอง 199วันที่ผ่านมา
Minehead Station, on the West Somerset Railway, had its Christmas Market over the 30th November and 1st December. I didn't need an excuse to go back to the West Somerset Railway... www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/
I've seen Platform 4 at Taunton used!
มุมมอง 7314 วันที่ผ่านมา
I was at Taunton late last night, having come back from London, when I saw that there was a train due to head to Bristol Temple Meads stopping at Platform 4. A quick, windy and slightly damp video later but I have seen Platform 4 used and I used platform 3 to head home! Apologies for the wind, it was unplanned this video!
Let's Visit - Worcestershire Parkway
มุมมอง 11514 วันที่ผ่านมา
One of the newer stations on the line (opened in 2020), Worcestershire Parkway is where the Cotswold Line and Cross Country cross. What else is there here? What surprise did I get come through on Platform 2?
Pilning - The Station That Needs Its Bridge!
มุมมอง 18914 วันที่ผ่านมา
I went to Pilning in South Gloucestershire to catch the train into Bristol so I could then return, thus using both trains that stop there. Having lost its Bridge in 2016, this is a difficult task. Pilning needs its bridge back! ko-fi.com/mattsrailwayadventures?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR1i2cntcF0Wfd_-73sYQvBbEOVeTF6uVJ68xLfr0VjlW5asvX6JVCC8kP0_aem_zdvbCSav5emYrX_rPjqvsg www.pilningstation.uk/ w...
Let's Visit - Sherborne
มุมมอง 11621 วันที่ผ่านมา
Sherborne, a town with 2 Castles and plenty of Railway history. It also has a highly rated station cafe... What else is there here? Watch on and find out.
Let's Visit - Gillingham (Dorset)
มุมมอง 131หลายเดือนก่อน
Gillingham (Dorset), not to be confused with Gillingham (Kent)... spelt the same way as well. Typical. What's here at Gillingham, what's slightly different about platform 2?
Let's Visit - Templecombe
มุมมอง 366หลายเดือนก่อน
What was once a busy interchange between the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR) and the London South Western Railway (LSWR), Templecombe is now a shadow of its former self. The overall history of the station, however, is interesting. What else is there here? How busy is it overall?
Lets Visit - Tisbury
มุมมอง 200หลายเดือนก่อน
After my adventures on the West Somerset Railway, its back to mainline trains and using South Western Trains for the first time. A return trip to Tisbury was needed, so what did I find and learn?
This Wasn't in the Plan!
มุมมอง 180หลายเดือนก่อน
Part 2 of my trip to Barnstaple, where I had planned on catching the once a day, peak time service, direct to Axminster. However, this didn't happen... Thankfully, I did get a brief glimpse (at speed) of a station I want to visit sometime. Lets Visit - West Somerset Railway, the wrap up.
มุมมอง 45หลายเดือนก่อน
After 3 trips, 24 hours of travelling time and 10 videos, its time to wrap up my thoughts on the West Somerset Railway and what my favourite station was. Hint... my thumbnail doesn't give any indication!!
I Left Axminster for a Certain GWR Service
มุมมอง 324หลายเดือนก่อน
Having read about a once a day direct service from Barnstaple to Axminster, I decided that I had to ride that service. This is part 1 of 2 for this journey; this documents going from Axminster to Barnstaple via Exeter St Davids, taking in the Tarka Line.
Lets Visit - Bishops Lydeard
มุมมอง 126หลายเดือนก่อน
The final stop on the adventure to visit all 10 stations on the West Somerset Railway, and the end of the line if not the actual end of the line (given it runs all the way to Taunton,) its Bishops Lydeard. There is a bonus steam train departing in the video as well. Enjoy! www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/
Lets Visit - Doniford Halt
มุมมอง 1392 หลายเดือนก่อน
My third trip to the West Somerset Railway, this time to tick off the final two videos. Doniford Halt is the only request stop on the line, so what is there to see there?

The general ramblings of a Railway Station fan
Brilliant video of one of my favourite stations, I used to travel through it in the late 70s and early 80s , sadly the last time I went there. It looks largely unchanged although it was still retaining the old BR (W) totem signs in the 80s when most had the plain BR black text on white. I think those short platforms in the 70s were used for parcels or disused, I can't quite remember. I remember a departmental loco class 24 sat semi perminent in Plat 3 possibly a train heating unit. There was a stone/brick engine depot in the trangle but it had lost its roof at some point earlier. Shunting of freight wagons was active in the 70s with class 08s and it was the first and only time I witnessed fly shunting where the uncoupled wagon is pushed and the loco stops and the wagon freewheels. Just to the south/eastern outside the station was a row of open mineral wagons that were being filled with some kind of metal waste from a factory that looked like aluminum. The bridge you mentioned as disused has /had goods lift and I suspect they are used occaisionally for accessible access for wheelchair users? Traction at the time consisted of class 50 and 47 on passenger and 31 and 37 on freight as well as an assortment of dmus. Parkway was a future fantasy station that one day they hoped would be built.
Thank you for the additional history of the station and I'm glad you liked the video.
A lot of your shots are " mirror image" which is distracting. Can be put right in the edit. Good to see my hometown station featured though 😊
@@ianjames9166 Thanks for the feedback
Another cracking video, top drawer as always.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Sherborne's always worth a visit and the cafe at the station is excellent.
@@SimonPJohnson I agree, I'd highly recommend it to anyone getting a train from Sherborne.
There is already acces at other side of track - via Station Road. Much cheaper and disabled friendly, will be build a acces road with new platform at loop line. Fast non-stopping trains to Wales still can use same route as before. Stopping service - switch to track 3 (loop). As usual needs a lot of permissions/planing to do simple thing. But at the end - this is better solution for long term.
@@stanley3647 That would be good. Pilning would be a lot better with a good, regular service
Perfect timing there Matt so see two trains as well as the station
Good stuff. I'm amazed to see that the buffers on the CE siding are still in the NSE colours they were painted in when I photographed them in the early '90s!
Sorry for photobombing your video... it is a lot better quality than what I am planning!
@@GWRNorth_Star33 No worries. You'll get there in the end, I'm still learning the best ways
Good video my friend. Tony in Portsmouth.
@TonyWeaving Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video.
Short lived signal box
Love a steam train, but especially in England.
What a shame that beautiful platform and buildings aren't used.
Another cracking video.
Good video, good shout at your number 1 station and it's good to see you know how to wear your hat.
Hiya Matt. How did you manage to flip the video! A bit of info: Avon County Council ceased to exist in 1996. It was replaced by three unitary authorities: Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council, Bath & North East Somerset Council, and South Gloucestershire Council. Your journey took you through the first three of these.
@jackmartinleith I wish I knew what I did to flip it but I'm not complaining. I had a brain fade moment, didn't realise until it was too late 🤦♂️
Well done, keep it up. Your Dad would be proud.
Thank you Neal! I'm sure he is proud of my progress with this now.
Lovely little station, my uncle used to live in Stogumber.
It has a fabulous fish and chip shop there just past the harbour, another fab video.
Only passed through, shame about the graffiti.
I've been there many times another good video.
I have seen and been there many times, thanks for the dates and things very informative as always.
Nice one Matt 👍 lovely little station. The woods near there look gorgeous when the leaves start to change colour. Worth revisiting in a few weeks when autumn is in full swing. 😊🍁🍂
Another fabulous video.
Another cracking video enjoyed seeing the old diesal trains.
Loved it never been to Dunster station, nice to see you wore your hat the right way around at last. Good job on video.
Well done very informative, looking forward to the videos to come.
Great video Matt! Always thought you would suit TH-cam. It can take a long time to build up a channel, but you're on the right track (pun intended) 🚉. Looks like you're enjoying yourself 👍 Subscribed and looking forward to more.
Sad to see the station looking rather shabby. None of the so-called improvements seems to have made much difference. I used to spent time there as a school kid in the mid 70s and even then it was much more cared for. Little or no vegetation on the tracks, no acres of weeds and a decent amount of track and signals. The only improvement is the re-opening of the middle platform, but they need to put a better building on it. Not the greatest gateway to the fine county of Somerset...
Compared to the next station down the line, Tiverton Parkway, Taunton doesn't exactly look enticing... The middle platform, to me, is almost the best aspect of Taunton station. I will, one day, see a train on platform 6...
For White Notley you'll ideally get a direct train for Braintree. Otherwise you'll need a train that stops at Witham and change there for a train for Braintree. This is all assuming you are coming via London Liverpool St
That would be the current plan; however, I might try and find a weekend where I can stay somewhere in Essex so I can visit a few more stations around the area.
For the readers; the station is on the Mawddach cycle/walking trail, which is the route of the removed railway to Dolgellau. The carpark is a useful spot for a visit to the area - from the station you can either walk into Barmouth across the bridge, or do the equally scenic walk across the salt marsh to Fairbourne. BTW the carpark has toilets and an electric car charging point.
Another good video, very informative as always, not sure the dog would like and share it but I will ask. We'll done
Enjoyed the video.
I love that station, I have friends who live near the street leading to it
It serves a purpose, I've seen worse but also seen better
Well what can I say another fab video, glad to see you wearing your hat the right way at last.
Great video, very informative and narrated to perfection, One little point you got your hat on the wrong way. 😂
