    Your old trans mount is broken, the rubber chunk used to be glued inside the channel piece that's still on your trans, google "Anchor 2693" .

    I am working on my 57 Bel Air and have used the side mount frame mount engine kit from Summit which moves the engine 3/4 of an inch foward so you can use factory side engine mounts., and that the factory HEI dist fits right in. You can move the rad to the front of the core support to the 6 cyl positition and all your components will clear. Using the long water pump and any 68 through 80 engine components and accessories. Also try using a 1964 to 1966 Chevelle booster to clear your vacume valve it fits great! My 57 now has a 1976 350 with a 350 turbo with power brakes and factory alt. I also used Chevelle exhaust manifolds that can also support the factory A/C compressor and power steering pump assembly. Im not bragging but its cheeper than buying after market and parts are everywhere. If you want part numbers i have them.

    • @bentrodgarage
      @bentrodgarage 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do have the engine in now... I will say that the old 350 used the same HEI that this one will. Also the drive shaft and everything that I had before, is what I wanted to use so that I could not worry about Drive shaft size or anything else, needing to be changed. The front motor mounts are what was used originally in the V8 position and everything lined up. That video is next!

    I have the same damn issue yet to replace my radiator my transmission temps will get to 180 to 190 and at idle it will randomly over heat tired of it I’ll try and replace that cap and tank while I’m doing the radiator

    • @bentrodgarage
      @bentrodgarage 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      hope it works. I still have a random overheat but not as often as it was. I found an old hose clap that was weak and replaced that, It has helped but still chasing something. Its like the new pressure from the new pump has just thrown everything out of whack. At least I can manage it now and it is not happening every time! Maybe once every couple of weeks. I just top off the tank when cool and I am good.

    Thanks for making this video. Clearly a frustrating experience in the process of installing these tanks and it’s made even tougher by having the spare tire well in the way also. I will be installing a new tank in my 57 BA SC along with sender. In the process of removing the old tank I thought it might just be advantageous to use fuel safe hose (like the coupler hose) as many other cars use them - but you proved that with the proper assembly sequence, it can be done with the original piping. Like and Subscribed..

    It sounds like you covered a lot of things, that's a pressure cap usually their rated to 16 psi. One thing I've run into with those gen 3, 4 engines with high mileage is that little steam pipe (3mm/ 1/8" l.D. so it doesn't take to plug them)that's connected to both front area of the cylinder heads gets plugged along the coolant reservoir inlet where pipe feeds into it creates basically a big steam bubble that can't purge from the engine into the reservoir which can cause a restriction in the inlet flow and that steam can't purge through the thermostat being it's located in the bottom hose. Another issue I've seen (not that common) is being how the cooling system is designed (reverse flow) the small passages in the head gaskets (there progressive, small to large being there's no cyl.head crossover)towards the front of the engine get restricted or plugged reducing coolant flow. From the head to the block. Worst case would be to remove the cylinder heads and manually clean out those passages and of course replace the head gaskets.When you replaced the water pump it's recommended to do power flush in order to rid the cooling system of any possible debris that may cause blockage. Bottom up and top down. One other issue I've seen is that tranny can be running hotter than normal (normal tranny temp is around 180-220° when trannies run hot it's usually caused by internal slippage.) being where the cooler is located in the radiator (engine inlet side or radiator outlet) it basically reheats the coolant going back into the engine. Do mean to ramble on, but those are some of issues I've run into when l was a mechanic.

    • @bentrodgarage
      @bentrodgarage 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that's a lot to cover, Nice info provided! The one thing that I cant get over is how the system Boils over when the temp gauge sensor went out considering the system is all mechanical, as far as I can tell... mechanical water pump and thermostat.. So what's the deal with that? Tranny seems to be running fine. 185-203 depending on load. I'll have to look for the passages.

    Rear doors on 4 door sedans are a pain. After mill thickness of primers and paints, the usually chip. The gaps are way too tight. Before any front door adjustments are made, new hinge pin bushings should be installed. Doors need to be loaded with all the parts because of the weight. It makes the door sag. The stainless trim on Belairs at top of door can be adjusted to make the lines match up. You'll have to bend on the window frame to get it perfect.

    Wire brushing it off is a fine option, where you can get to. A bucket blaster, small gun type blaster or cheaper Harbor freight type sand blasting unit would work well in those “tight areas”, if you have a decent compressor; otherwise it’s just picking at it slowly. Looks a hundred times better than when you started.

    • @bentrodgarage
      @bentrodgarage 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Little tip with those spring compressors. If you take the hooks off the shaft and put a large washer or two on the shaft then you can drop it down through the top shock mount upside down, so the head that you put the wrench on is where the top of the shock would be. Then you just put the threaded hooks into the spring, a couple of coils up from the bottom i.e. leave yourself some thread to work with. No need to compress the spring a whole lot or you'll just start pulling the shaft head through the washers. Just enough to where it's holding the tension. Once the arms are removed then you can safely and slowly let the remaining tension off.

    fair warning ; if you replace the leaf springs MAKE DARN SURE THEY ATE MADE OF DECENT QUALITY STEEL that eliminates the chinese recycled steel ones! do not cheep out on this item as if you should snap a spring up front you will have a scary scenario where the car will go to the side that breaks weather you want it to or not it cooks the rear axle angle and off it goes the best the driver can do is slow to a stop as fast as possible and hope you dont flip the car and or hit something buy good ones only!

    4drs are still available cheep i;ve owned my delray 2dr sedan since 1972 for 50 dollars in the last few years wanted to get 57 a driver the prices for 2 dr 57s is gone way past me so looked for a 4 dr found one that was a garaged belair but had been hit by a snow plow it smashed just above the bumper \ hood grille fenders the bumper frame and firewall are fine for 750 minus the original 283 and trans 4 doors are now the way to go the only issue with what you did on the firewall not the frame is the color they look much getter when the color matches the car outside color

    • @bentrodgarage

      I'm sure color match is better. But this is on a very tight budget, and anything is better than how it was... it helps with some protection and can be changed later!

    I rebuilt my 57 Chevy front suspension back in 1980. I was 18 years old at the time. 2 things you have to be careful: jacking up the car & make sure its secure, removing the coil. When I finished I took the car for alignment. Bruce (RIP), a friend who did the alignment, kept asking me over and over if I did the rebuilt. I said yes. He didn't believe me. If I did it in my younger years then anyone can do it. I also noticed that steering was much easier since my car wasn't power steering.

    • @bentrodgarage
      @bentrodgarage ปีที่แล้ว

      Always try and be as safe as possible. You don't want to take yourself out of the game for a bit due to an injury that could have been avoided. Still can't fully tighten anything up yet until the front end and engine are back together so the suspension is sitting where it needs to be.
