Rory had a very rare blood type,making his sweat very acidic, which contributed to the dtripping of the paint off his guitar. Also the guitar was stolen at some point and left outside which also contributed to this.

@djconFFS Thanks for your comment. That was the narrator's point really - this short was released 12 years after Rory's passing. The main thing that inspired the documentary was the timelessness, relevance and strength of Rory's incredible music - even the opening gambit citing some 'mainstream' musician's comments and feelings on Rory were there to augment this. Don't for a second think that the timelessness of great music is lost on me :)

@screenpuller I think it's a combination of his sweat and the nitro finish. The nitro comes off really easy anyway.

@daviddara333... Even old strats still had a nitro finish, woulda taken more than a few days outdoors. I checked on it, but can't for the life of me remember what his condition was called. :)

@screenpuller haha ar ye serios? and i taught it was because it was thrown in a bush for a few days which destroed the paint job and then further wear from playing it?

I've heard that Rory had a rare blood condition that made his sweat highly acidic, thus contributing to his strat's "no-burst" finish. If anyone can confirm or deny this, i'd live to hear from you!
