A Thinkpad T420 flashed with libreboot using 3 different devices (not the tutorial)
Let me know in the comments if you had issues injecting the vendor files to your libreboot rom.
I will be creating a tutorial on flashing libreboot to the T420 using the ch341a, Pico, and Pi 4b. Stay tuned!

very interesting! I would be interested to do this to my edge e-540 - looking forward to your next vid!
Been slowly building my own kgpe-d16 system for libreboot. Any chance you could test lrdimm support? Libreboot says it should work nowadays but its untested. Could theoretically allow for 384-512gb of ram on the board.
I did notice that libreboot now says it could support LRDIMM, Unfortunetly I don't have any on hand right now but I'll keep this in mind and possibly test that someday. Probably best to stick with the RDIMM stick for now.
Im stuck doing it on a t520, If you can do it upload the video so i can learn
I just so happen to currently making a video on libreboot thinkpad t420, I'll get that out shortly and hopefully you can adapted it to t520.
@@SecondR-Freedom yeah ok thanks
@@SecondR-Freedom let me know when you upload it, Also if you can see if you can get a wi-fi card running on Trisquel. Once you install it on the T420, I will do my 420 and t520. And i have 20 or so wi-fi cards. They won't work on the lenovo bios
Hello, I wanted to say thank you! It's very hard to find videos on this type of motherboard, especially a Libreboot tutorial. Hope the pc goes well!
Good to hear, thanks!
Seems like a bit overboard but it seems like the only powerful fully free software desktop
it's the best Libreboot got for now so I'm giving it a shot. Considering something like the Talos ll or even a System76 desktop is up there in the thousands.
Nice job! I didnt understand what the model of mobo, but as I remember libreboot compatibility list - its some Asus. You can search for ES Opterons that are overlockable using multiplier. I've used some Supermicro board with modified bios that can FSB overclock any Opterons, but it was not Libreboot compatible. P.S. May be you can help others, who want to build something similar by placing HW list of your WS in the video description.
Good idea, I just updated the description to have the specs of the workstation. Thanks!

Thanks, Maybe you can do yours and start a chain of Candace shoutouts! lol
@SecondR-Freedom yasssssssssss 😂😂😂😂 i'm in 🔜
I was going to try this out myself, still going to build this; very cool video!!
It's a good board, just make sure you get the right size case for this motherboard is about 1cm wider that regualr ATX motherboards so smaller cases do not fit.
@@SecondR-Freedom I was already looking at bigger cases because I want to use the PIKE 2008 module to install eight SAS drives.
@@craigtheduck That sounds awesome but I do recommend staying away from the Pike 2008 module for unfortunately it has issues with libreboot and I believe the computer won't even boot with it on, though I have never tried it myself. I did try the IPMI IKVM module which also has issues with libreboot and for me the computer didn't even boot up to seabios. Unfortunately it might be best to use the PCIE lane instead.
@SecondR-Freedom if I remeber correctly the thing with the option ROM hanging the board with libreboot was patched and the controller works as a plain HBA under Linux without the option ROM loaded; even if it ends up not pulling through i'll report my findings to leah
Excellent video, we need more libreboot instructions on TH-cam.
This is a very important and informative video regarding libreboot. Thank you for this!
X60 Thinkpads are 32-bit right?
Most of them are 32-bit but some of the later versions came with a 64-bit core 2 duo, either (T5500), (T5600), or the most powerful (T7200) Which is what I have. As you can imagine these varients of the x60 are more desired for modern day programs so it's nice that they exist.
Love seeing this !
you're such a fking chad dude! Keep it up
badass bro, hope to chase down the path of the bottom-up FOSS like you have soon
You inspired me to dive into Libreboot and start buying second hand parts for my build. Thanks! Keep progressing with your videos, I see a lot of potential ❤
God like
... Bad buy
@@zCaptainz you must've missed the libreboot part of this equation
@@craigtheduck Yeah, I did miss that part actually. But I think you're missing the whole point that that whole hardware config was crap when it launched, and is even crappier nowadays.
@@zCaptainz That kinda thing takes a backseat to true security; yes, a Talos II is a hell of a lot better, but it's also a hell of a lot more expensive to buy/build such a system.
@@craigtheduck wtf you doing that needs that much security? You got a kiddie p0rn server?
All I ask is, don't create idols for yourself. She knows a lot, she's smart and speaks well, but in her lyrics, both about Ukraine and Russia, about Israel and attitudes towards terrorism, there are a lot of wrong messages. Check the information yourself, don't trust anyone.
it seems working all right but why are you using opterons? It's just power hungry
your not wrong, there power hungry but I wanted a lot of cores and threads for virtualization and the ECC Registered RAM supported by the motherboard is an added benefit.
The main reason is because the Opteron 4200 and 6200 series of CPUs are the most powerful CPUs supported by Canoeboot and GNU Boot.
absolutely classic, and classy
God bless you ❤
God bless!
SWEET 🧁 a freaking CRT 🍬
Aww I hope she sees this too! You could tag her on social media or email it I think
I actually do not use social media and I could email but I'd rather let the power of the internet do it's thing and let the video float around. Thank you for the idea though!
@@SecondR-Freedom ...and that's what gonna happen FUN FACTS: I believe CANDACE OWENS & LAUREN DALTON saw this and who knows, I might come back here soonest i see you on any CANDACE OWENS episode just like i did when i saw LAUREN DALTON. Edit (future): Congratulations bro, you made it happen!!! It seems I might do mine - who knows - Congrats anyways!!!!
You should tag her in the title so she could see this
Can it max out Crysis?
never tried it, not a gamer. But I can only assume the worst for these opterons are some of the most inefficient and worst performing cpus when it comes to gaming.
If you have enough pcie lanes to run 2 gpus, you could just add a Nvidia tesla M10.
I heard of this card but unfortunately for the kgpe-d16 running libreboot cannot have 2 gpus connected to it otherwise the computer will not boot. the k6000 still seems to be the best when it comes to having one gpu.
@@SecondR-Freedom I see, so there is probably no proprietary driver for nvidias optimus stuff. Hopefully one day the noveau driver will make it possible.
Nice
Very good tutorial !
Buy Dual Xeon.EPIC cpus are rule the world of the compouting industry
very helpful, thanks
