What are you using to record with your camera to your phone?
The Sony creators app, then I just recorded the phone screen.
@@heatherlarkin Great! Thanks so much!
Wow, as happy user of 1st gen I did not expect AF to be SO QUICK. Thank tou for head to head comparison. I have something to think about :) concerning upgrade.
Right? Neither did I! I mean, I should have since everything Sigma is doing right now is focusing at light speed, but I still did not expect it!
Why only 1080?(
Didn't feel like a TH-cam lens review needed to be 4k
Thank you. Nice review. I also really liked your review of the Sigma 50mm 1.2 DG DN.
Glad it was helpful!
Maybe you can make a video one day on how you got started in photography =)
That's a good topic, I'll put it on the list!
Thank you for the review and the real-world tests! Still happy to see a Spider Holster plate =)
You bet!
Some times the 1.2 looks better other images being at 1.4 looks better. I think sometimes seeing more in focus does look better with some images and other images more bokeh looks better. You look like Mary Jane from Spider-Man.😂
Yep, art is personal preference.
@@heatherlarkin When I watched this video on my phone I liked the last photo with f1.4. But when I watched it again on my laptop I liked the f1.2 better. Also I was using web browser so I holding the phone vertical. So the screen was very small. I think that's why I liked third photo at f1.4 and the last photo at f1.4 on my phone but again f1.2 looks a lot better on my laptop. Kind of weird. LOL
I also say this for my 50 1.2 Nikon, it has been my favorite lens for 20 years :) (before I was Canon with the 50L and 85L) The sharpness and bokeh of this lens are incredible, they can even be used in sports, something impossible a few years ago. I also have a Panasonic S1R system with the Lumix 50 1.4 and I hesitate to take the 50 1.2 Sigma, but I know myself I will take it :D
I had a 50mm 1.4 when I used Nikon, but never a 1.2. ❤️
@@heatherlarkin My translation was a bit off :D I meant to say, the 50mm focal length has always been my favorite :D. Previously, I had the 50L and later on, the 58mm 1.4 with Nikon. Today, I have the Nikon Z 50 1.2, and so I'm hesitating to get the Sigma 1.2 version for my Lumix system. I'm wondering if compared to the Lumix 1.4, we can notice a difference in the bokeh rendering. the 50 1.2 ais was not at that level :D (in addition to being manual)
Ahh I see. I haven't compared the two so I wouldn't know, but I would think that the Sigma would be very lovely simply because it's new and has newer technology.
@@simrtech3d The Panasonic has a great rendering, very punchy. Even if the SIgma is f1.2, they have different character.
No one shops wide open… save your $ and get a 1.8 or 2.8 lens… 👍🏼
I have occasionally shot at f0.95, so I disagree.
Do you mean shoots wide open! I sure do, every session.
Why only 1080p? 😢
I didn't feel like a youtube lens review needed 4k?
I really enjoyed your video- thanks! But beyond enjoyment; it also settled my quest for my next portrait lens: I've been considering the Sigma DG DN 85mm f1.4 and the Zeiss Batis; but you've given me the extra "push" to get this one. My heart also lies with the 50's. I started off as a student, with a Pentax ES II and a Takumar SMC 50mm f1.4 and that has established the way I approach compositions. I'm a total nerd when it comes to shooting flowers, close up and creating "impressionist" bokeh and this lens will enable me to shoot much more than just portraits with it.
That 85mm 1.4 is my other clear favorite lens, but there's just SOMETHING about this new 50 that makes my heart love it more. Maybe I'll feel differently if Sigma ever makes an 85mm 1.2?
@@heatherlarkin Yes- that would be magical! I've switched to Sony a few years ago; but I still keep my Nikon D850 and its 105mm f1.4 lens. That lens has pixie dust! I imagine a good 85mm f1.2 would do the same.. Anyway, I share your passion for macro photography too!
Pleasant presentation, keep up the good work. (I’m a gear nerd too but with the Nikon system) cheers
Awesome, thank you!
the difference is....500 Euro
And a whole lot more! ❤️
I’ve always found Sigma lenses to give the best bokeh. I certainly love Sony GM lenses for their clinical look, but Sigma has a certain look that I prefer.
They're quite artistic!
man where is the RF mount? hahahah. ill just wait until sigma comes out with it... RF lenses making you go broke
LOLOLOL ask Canon about that!
@@heatherlarkin I know. Rumored that sigma will come out w the RF one.. that’s why I’m holding off on getting one.. plus sigma is half the price and as good as the rf..
Very nice video ! This is what I looking for a video about the minimum distance because it can make a more versatile lens .
Glad it was helpful!
Me alegro que exista… nos puedo pagarlo😅
Photography is never cheap!
@@heatherlarkin never say never jajajaja
I have the 24 and 85 1.4. I thought they would fit the need for family photos indoors but I run out of space with the 85 indoors and don’t like the distortion with the 24. I use the 30 1.4 (45 ff eq) on my crop bodies the most often. Maybe I’ll pick up the 50 1.2 to try.
It's a great choice!
Happy to see a fellow Spider holster user =)
They save my LIFE!! ❤️
Thanks 4 this video,. However, if any of you has purchased the 50mm F1.4, I didn't see any reason to go out and buy the F1.2 version. In reality BOTH are awesome lenses
It's all personal opinion. Both are lovely lenses, but I think the 1.2 is better.
Have you tried the Sony GMs? The F1.4 beats the Sigma in most regards, except for price. The F1.2 beats the Sigma slightly regarding chromatics & corners, but costs a lot more and is heavier. A lens that was a joy to use for me was a Nikkor Z24-70 F2.8 and the Nikkor Z85, for weird reasons: the Nikkor 85 was light, compact, and sharp, yet had a busy but enjoyable bokeh, and the 24-70 for the sound it made when zooming in and out. Sadly I didn't try the GMII lenses yet, but I wish I will one day. And I am eager to see what Sigma offers next.
I prefer the SIGMA ones, but the Sonys are good too.
1.4 seems sharper
Must be video because I'd say the 1.2 is sharper.
Every other youtubers has been comparing the Sigma 50 1.2 to the Sony 50 f1.2, finally, someone make the comparisons for the 2 sigmas...Thank you !
Thanks for watching!
Great video…I am curious if you ever compared the sigma and sony 8mm 1.4? I have had the Sony forever, but am so hoping someone comes out with an 85mm 1.2. It is time!
I haven't, sorry!
Would have been nice to see some portraits. I don't shoot flowers.
Portraits in my other video about it. ❤️
where can we see@@heatherlarkin
New SIGMA 50mm 1.2 First Look th-cam.com/video/RAiIhRuiP68/w-d-xo.html
I actually thought the 1.4 more than held it’s own. I would be curious of comparison of portraits of people full body and waste up… Maybe I’m a biased because I have a Canon version art lens 😎📷
The 1.4 is lovely, I just find the 1.2 prettier. ❤️
@@heatherlarkin I can appreciate your thoughts, I would definitely like to see the comparison on portraits. Which will obviously come in the future.
Hi, dear!!!! AWESOME!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video. You probably haven't had the opportunity to try the Leica Summilux-SL 1:1.4/50 ASPH., for me the best artistic “50” ever. Of course, the price is a little different.😊
Yes very different on the price, I would imagine!
I always thought the 1.4 is too big for it's spec. Now I see they were practicing for the 1.2.
Is a great lens, but its twin here finished strong.
Great video! Subbed!
Thank you!
Wow. Great review. I want one. Liked. Subscribed. Commented. I have the Sony e mount 28 mm and 40 mm 1.4 HSM lenses. And I have 85 mm 1.4 DGDN lens. I'm very interested in one of these 50 mm 1.2 lenses to replace my huge 40 mm 1.4.
Thanks for the sub! It's a lovely lens, my new fave.
Well done! Can't wait for the Fuji X version.. 🙂
Thanks!!
Sweet lens!
Totally yes!
Great video and comparisons. It was cool to see the effects!
Glad you liked it!
Stunning! What a great lens and a GREAT price! Way less then what I paid for my 50mm 1.2 Nikor
It's so lovely!!
Awesome Question…Will their be a 85mm 1.2 DG DN Art ??
There currently isn't a 85mm 1.2
Rumors are saying Sony is cooking one up
For some reason I misread this the first time. There currently isn't, and I have no clue what's on the horizon, but I can personally hope!
Great video & comparison. The 1.2 is absolutely stunning 🤩
Totally agree!
Uh oh….. might need to drop some money on this one…. Great video Heather!
You totally do! It is absolutely absolutely glorious.
I do a lot of the same here in Oklahoma. I often have good luck when I just force myself to sit down somewhere for about 10 minutes and and scan every inch of my nearby surroundings. It's surprising how much we don't see when we are not focused. Loved the video btw!
That's definitely something I teach in my macro classes! Sitting down for 10 minutes let your brain get bored and allows you to see things you'd normally overlook.
Good video! I like it because it actually shows the process, the wins and the fails involved. A lot of youtubers just post the "wins" and make it look so easy. Watching other youtubers go and immediately find 20 different bugs in what seems like 5 minutes when I can barely find 3 in an hour gets really disheartening.
Right? Some days it IS like that but other days it's not!
Love the video…. But hate spiders. Hahaha
Lol. How can you not like these cute little puppies!?!
What fun. I really enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is it possible to do this with a flash as well?
Flash yes!
Nice! Have u tried this? :)
great video, that is what I was checking if the Rv would help me with macro, what tool did you use to combine all 50 photos to get the final version?.....wold be nice if that can happen automatically in camera
I used helicon focus for that! ❤️
madness how they didn't bring this to A7IV, camera is more than capable
sony like to drip feed us all the new features , 1 per model
@@chriswray5010 it’s silly of them because all I know is in how ever many years it is till I upgrade, it won’t be to Sony!
Just heard a rumour from sonyalpha rumours that a A7iv 2.0 firmware update is coming soon with the focus stacking feature included 😊
I hope this comes to us A7IV owners via firmware update
@@davematthew21 they lied
Thank you
This camera is on my list this spring!!!
Excellent! How much mm is the lens?
105mm!
When I tried this it was dark and I could not see to focus and the camera would not allow me to use live view! Am I doing something wrong?!? I used auto focus (when set to focus bracketing) shutter 200 f/4 iso 200 Sony 90 macro using Yongnuo ring flash (Sony a7rV). Please advise❤️
I would guess (but not for sure since I haven’t used that flash), that the camera doesn’t recognize that there’s a flash attached and didn’t switch automatically to the setting that changes the screen. OR there was something (like a wire) just behind the viewfinder so the camera switched to the Finder display and not the screen.
So I took the flash off and still when I put it on focus bracketing the screen goes black. This does not happen with any of the other drive modes.🤷🏼♀️
@@lizrosefisher1483 I’m out of ideas!
I'm having a similar problem....my screen is fine in all other drive modes and I have live view off but when I switch to focus bracket live view turns on automatically and the screen goes darker because I'm in studio and shooting at 125th sec, f11 under studio strobe modeling lights. It happens whether I'm using flash or not in that studio situation. I contacted Sony and the engineers are looking at it.
@@wolfnard1 Yes, even without the flash! You can not have live view off in focus bracketing. So when you are shooting in darker areas, you can’t see to focus🤷🏼♀️. I spoke with a sony support person and he said that is how the camera works and will give feedback it is an issue for some people 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for this!
