Installing A GPS Speedometer In Your Boat - Tips and Results
I'd been running without a speedo for years, but after getting some 'feedback' from the Coastguard after returning to the ramp that I was probably over the 5 knot limit I decided it was time to get a GPS speedo (From Amazon - amzn.to/2RKN8AL) to keep tabs on my speed. Here is my installing into a fibreglass runabout OMC Evinrude Control unit, and how it performed in the water.

Installing An LED Voltmeter In Your Boat - Battery Level Check
มุมมอง 31K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Was sick of having to second-guess the battery when starting the outboard, during a fishing or day trip. So I decided to buy a cheap voltmeter (From Amazon - amzn.to/2DExPnc) to keep tabs on the battery condition. Here is my installing into an OMC Evinrude Control unit, and how it performs.
Carpeting Fibreglass Boat - Interior restoration with marine carpet..
มุมมอง 45K6 ปีที่แล้ว
After repainting I was keen to install some marine carpet to make the boat more comfortable, less slippery and a little quieter when out on the water. I used Pacific Ribbed Marine Carpet (amzn.to/2NIAA7B) and Ados F2 glue (amzn.to/2xECm3C). I plan to continue sharing my progress of updating and restoring the boat into a more attractive, comfortable and safe vessel. Comments and feedback welcome...
Repainting Boat Interior - Fibreglass, cleaning, priming and painting.
มุมมอง 49K6 ปีที่แล้ว
The interior of this boat has over 40 years of scrapes, marks, dirt and water marks. It needed a fresh coat of paint. I did some local research and found Resene offer a three step processes for fibreglass interior repainting. Firstly you clean thoroughly with a cleaner and mould removed. Secondly you seal with a waterborne primer. Lastly you paint at least two coats with a waterborne enamel wit...
Restoring Vinyl Seats - Cleaning, Repairing and painting.
มุมมอง 31K6 ปีที่แล้ว
The original vinyl seats had held up surprisingly well. There was the odd tear, but the main issue was dark staining on the white. I had tried cleaning, but with little success. So I decided to repaint with black and white vinyl paint (amzn.to/2N39cAn), as well as patching some of the tears and re-glueing to the base. After some painful masking they come out looking brand new! I plan to continu...
Removing A Vinyl Stripe Decal From Fibreglass Boat With Caramel Wheel
มุมมอง 58K6 ปีที่แล้ว
The original three-stripe vinyl decals that ran down the sides of the boat have seen better days. They have perished, become brittle and in some parts have rubbed completely off. I needed to remove them before restoring the gelcoat and replacing. Wheel available at amzn.to/2QXxgrn After some research I decided on try a Caramel Wheel aka Toffee Wheel or Adhesive Eraser Wheel attached to my drill...
Replacing Broken Steel Winch Rope With Synthetic - Fiberglass Runabout Boat, Fleetline Sapphire
มุมมอง 13K6 ปีที่แล้ว
My steel winch rope broke while hauling the boat out at the local ramp. Fortunately I was able to tied it up and get it the rest of the way on. I ordered a Tenob synthetic rope, cleaned the winch and installed the new rope. Here is the equivalent rope from Amazon amzn.to/2Dy25Aq I plan to continue sharing my progress of updating and restoring the boat into a more attractive, comfortable and saf...

Checking Out What Came With My First Boat & Making Plans - Fiberglass Runabout, Fleetline Sapphire
มุมมอง 2.8K7 ปีที่แล้ว
A run-through of what came with my first boat, what condition everything is in, an what I plan to do with it all. This is a Fleetline Sapphire 4.5 with an Evinrude outboard I was able to purchase a manual for the 1998 Evinrude BE60TLECM from www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_search.php?part_num=0213321 with reasonable shipping costs to NZ (not the US$218 shipping charge from another vendor!). ...
Buying Your First Boat - Tips and Advice
มุมมอง 41K7 ปีที่แล้ว
A run-down of the tips and tricks I learnt researching and buying my first used boat - a 1978 Fleetline Sapphire 4.5 with an 60HP Evinrude outboard. In the winter of 2016 after considerable research online (particularly The Fishing Website forums www.fishing.net.nz/forum/) I purchased a 1978 Fleetline Sapphire. It's a Rex Henry model made by his Fibreglass Mouldings company in East Tamaki. It h...

      Probably not real well. All this stuff is just temporary fixes. I would have saved a bunch of time and sprayed them all white. Then no masking and if they had to be done again in another year, easy to do.

    A heat gun is faster. Get one end lifter up and start heating and lifting the vinyl. It will release and pull right off.

    • @rh2600
      @rh2600 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I mentioned it in the video, but tried heat-gun first and it didn't work. The vinyl was attached over quarter of a century ago and was too hard and brittle.

      With old pin stripping a heat gun would damage the gel coat. Heat guns might work on an automobile but can damage the gel coat. 3M eraser wheel is the right tool for the right job.

    hi mate, I'm refurbishing my old speed boat, wondering if I bother laying a vinyl/carpet down on the floor or would a paint like these provide enough grip and protection from the fibre glass

    • @rh2600
      @rh2600 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With any grip additives (which I didn't use) I prefer a carpeted finish. I have another video on that.

  • @johnelliot5387
    @johnelliot5387 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi mate great video, yeah I was thinking of doing the same thing with the carboard template, my only question would be gluing it down, did put glue all over the surface where the carpet was going to go and then put glue all over the carpet and then install it , or did you roll it back and do the back half and then the front half?

    • @rh2600

      No - paint product said simply to ensure surfaces were well cleaned. Primer and paint has keyed perfectly.
