Just a Dude travelling around having fun. Life is short, make it a good lap.
I've now officially started my journey South. Not sure where I'm going but the plan is to take life one day at a time. Packed up my 2017 Kawasaki KLR650 and left Canada on July 9th, 2022. Currently in South America and maybe beyond?

More police, toll roads, credit card fraud & no money. S2, E18
Starting out in Lebu, Chile I make my way South thru Contulmo towards Los Sauces.
Can we take a quick second and just agree on how great of a name that is for a town. Los Sauces!
I ended up in Valdivia for 2 nights at Kapai Alojamientos. I paid $18 for a dorm bed but was lucky enough to have the entire room to myself for the 1rst night. 2nd night, I had room mates.
Puerto Montt was always spot that I saw on the map when I learned of the carretera Austral. The highway runs south for about 1,240 kilometers (770 mi) from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins, passing through rural Patagonia.
It’s funny because I’d not heard of it as I tend to do very little research. 2 separate biker friends asked me within the same day if I was going to follow that route. So I had to say yes.
I ended up staying in Puerto Montt for 2 nights to get some more camping gear organized. I figured that if I camp 1 or 2 days a week, it’ll same me some serious coin during this leg of the journey.
Of course real life doesn’t care if you have any plans because as soon as I got about 4 hrs onto that route, my credit card info got stolen and I decided that the best thing to do was to head back to Puerto Montt.
FYI, my bank card hasn’t worked since Costa Rica so I’ve been putting all purchases on my credit card. Without that card, I was truly shit out of luck and the carretera Austral is not a place to be without cash or a credit card.
It was a beautiful day to retrace my steps so I really didn’t mind. The scenery really reminds me of the Western sides of Canada & The US.
Once back in Puerto Montt, I explored options for getting a new credit card and solving my bank card issues. There’s no easy fix as it’s approaching Christmas.
I’m a little mentally beat up right now so I decided to take my good friend’s up on their request for me to fly to Mexico and have Christmas with them. That also gave me an address to get a new card couriered out.
In reality it solved a lot of problems that I had all at once. So I booked a flight and hoped for the best.
The Santiago, Chile airport turned out to be a shit-show. I’ve never seen an immigration line like that one. They’ve also changed some rules since I last flew to Mexico that made it more difficult. I missed my flight by about 5 mins along with 7 other people. The next flight was going to be either in 12 hrs for $250 more or 24 hrs for $150 more.
The worst thing about the airport was when they escorted us to get stamped back into Chile, there were about 75 other folks that had all missed their flights.
You can’t do that to Families that close to Christmas (or ever).
So, after exactly 40 hrs, I arrived on the beautiful Island of Cozumel after 2 bus rides, 1 ferry and 3 flights…. Exhausted but very happy to have a beer and not move for 8 days!

Bolivia-Chile border x-ing, country #14 of this epic journey on my 2017, Kawasaki KLR650. S2, E17
มุมมอง 19919 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
It was a shaky start crossing the border from Bolivia into Chile. I’d had a flat tire for 25kms and limped into Chile. Not a great start to a new Country. BUT, all I needed was an ice cold beer and a crane truck and I’d be A-OK. No ice cold beers but I did manage to find a crane truck headed to a big city to get my bike fixed. Side note: This part of Bolivia & Chile do not drink their beer cold...

I left BC, Canada on July 9th, 2022 to start another amazing adventure. This time on a 2017 Kawasaki, KLR650. I'd started a ride 8 years before on a 2009 KLR650 to see how far I could go until I ran out of money. The answer turned out to be Dominical, Costa Rica where I managed to sell my motorcycle in no-mans land (between Costa Rica & Nicaragua for $4k... that's a whole different story though...

Up here at SnowWater we put our own touches on a lot of things. We have a TV in the bar for special occasions but it's on a "Fireplace" channel 99.9% of the time. Well, I got tired of just a fireplace so I made a different one. I encourage you to yell "Fire poker" whenever you see my arm (usually means that someone has to take a drink but you be you). The Salt Flats in Bolivia have been on my list of things to see since I left Vancouver, BC, Canada way back in early July, 2022. It did not disappoint. It’s HUGE! I’d also been looking forward to being naked on the bike for the Salt Flats…well, technically, I wasn’t naked as I was wearing one sock over my massive manly parts! I loved the Salt Flats so much that I went back a second time to watc...

The Death Road aka El Camino del Muerte, in Bolivia is one of the things you have to do when you visit la Paz, It is incredible. It’d be amazing on a mountain bike cause it is sure is awesome on a motorbike. Everything was going great until I came across a section of the Death Road that had been washed out by a landslide. It wasn’t worth risking the bike by trying to get across. I would’ve need...
Rainbow Mountain in Peru to crossing into Bolivia on my 2017, Kawasaki KLR 650 S2E14 & Death Road

Vinicunca aka Rainbow Mountain is a great spot to check out. The motorcycle ride to get there was worth it alone. It was a little crowded up top for my liking but as far as a touristy thing to do, I enjoyed it. I love when I’m not in a hurry and I can explore as I’m riding. I came across an abandoned/ destroyed church that was worth the atop in Marangani, Peru. Another great thing about Peru is...
From Pitumarca to Rainbow Mountain in Peru. It's unreal on a motorcycle. Breathtakingly Beautiful!

Although Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) in Peru is very touristy, it is incredibly beautiful. It's a very cheap option on a motorcycle as well. It cost 5 sol to enter the 1rst area then another 20 sol at the the second gate (less than $7 usd in total). I'm usually not a fan of outings like this but the motorcycle ride there from Pitumarca was so worth it. Most of the tourist buses depart from Cus...

Peru, I'm in LOVE with you! You are AMAZING. Your beauty never ceases to amaze me. Even after a ridiculous night, you still wake up looking so incredible. I had to try eating the famous Cuy (Guinea Pig). Not my favourite to be honest. Personally I think it's way over-rated and too expensive for what you get. I even felt bad as in Pitumarca, they had fashion show with Cuy all dressed up. #trippi...

I usually have my GoPro ready to record whatever I see that I think is awesome. I LOVE all these trucks and the amount of effort that the drivers put into them. Sorry to hear of all your troubles Al !! Glad you made it to Cozumel and good luck with all the credit card stuff and lastly,Merry Christmas!! Cheers 🍺🍺🎅🏻
It's all part of traveling alone on a motorcycle. I'm getting pretty good about not getting frustrated. Merry Christmas to you Fred!
Really enjoyed your video ! Retired in CUENCA a year ago . Driving privileges expired 6 months ago Been struggling for a Ecuador license since then . Hope to be on my way to Peru soon . Thanks for showing the way . Frustrating , Yes. But ridding around Cuenca . Avoiding check points . Has been fine .
I loved Cuenca. Really enjoyed some of those mountain towns around there as well.
It's called The Death Road for a reason. The road condition on the day was pretty bad. Turning back was a good call, AL!
every now & then I manage to do the smart decision. Not too often though!
KLR is for giants LOL
even the Giants can't kill a KLR!
Hi beautiful video. I’m going to Peru 🇵🇪 in January band I would love to get up there. Only worry is the weather which is going to be super wet I have been told. In which month did you go? Thank you
I was there in mid November. Not sure what the weather will be like in Jan but it sure is beautiful!
buymeacoffee.com/trippingwithal is the link to help me out if you're enjoying my videos.
Love all the #88'S. Keep on keepin on!!!
and spoiler alert. Today the odometer hit 50k (+/- 3k when I didn't have an odometer for a month).
Great stuff Al! For the people that want to binge from the start, there is a tab "Sort" on your TH-cam playlist page that you can select "Oldest to newest" Thanks for taking us along!
great suggestion, I like to binge myself!
$3 on a new shirt! Budget. Blown.
actually it was 2 for $6. I can't spend anymore on clothing this month!
It is def the most expensive. The only other one that comes close is Uruguay. So cool seeing so many places I went by last year at the same time. I really liked TalTal. Caldera though was maybe my favorite of the cities in that region. You'll enjoy the south of Chile. It's different to the north. The north feels so much like being in the US or Canada.
I started the Carretera Austral today but had to turn back and return to Puerto Montt (future episode story). I did feel like I was back in Canada. Love your vids John, it gives me a sneak preview of awesomeness to come.
Although my travels are incredibly fun & rewarding, it is not easy financially (even though I'm living as cheaply as possible). If you are enjoying my videos and would like to help out... here's the link. Cheers. buymeacoffee.com/trippingwithal
What a crazy time! Your videos are so good, and we feel like we are there. !! The salt flats were amazing and what kind wonderful people you have met!!
I very happy that I went back to the Salt Flats for the sunset. It was so beautiful.
wow Al, That was a nail biter!! We are sure glad you are OK , You are a long way from there now, just take care and we love you too!
Getting better by the day. It's amazing what no exercise and drinking beer can do to heal the body!
What am episode.
It was basically a greatest hits of emotions type of episode!
@ you handled it like a pro. It’s amazing to see you thrive in adversity. Well done. Can’t wait for season 2 episode 17.
Wow didn’t know what was under the salt flats until I saw this video
The Salt Flats were unreal! It's a different planet for sure.
Still smiling and then had a beer fridge! Days like that happen, but it sure beats working!
jobs & careers suck!
Aw al this is so good well it's not great but your right it's good. I as a traveller appreciate these reminders that things don't always go the way we intend but they do get better and sometimes worse but then they get better! Thankful to all those that were so nice to help you out!
You 2 look like you're having a great trip as well!
When are you coming to Santa Cruz Bolivia?
i'm already in Chile. Maybe on the way back though?
Happy Cruising Al! Miss you! 🐘💕
I miss you!!! Send me an Alephant & some dandelion jelly!
those mountains are incredible...13:40 in the video.. I want to see that in person. wow
Those mountain roads were truly so incredible!
They say you're attitude determined. you'r altitude. So you got a good attitude Son, love you❤ keep on trucking.
Gracias Pops, sometimes staying postivie is the only option. Love you Buddy!
always a blast riding along with you Al....thanks again...
Happy to have you along, it's sure been an amazing adventure!
Never seennbefore a bag fir cofee...😁😁😂🤙
I've had quite a few bags of coffee on this adventure! Sometimes that all they have but when you want & need coffee in the morning, you take it.
That's some nice drone action. Glad you were able to get it workin'!
I've been pretty lazy with flying the drone. The next video has some great drone shots of the Salt Flats. Working on that vid now.
Good attitude Al, tough rides to says the least, I know the area it’s cold and mountainous, with rain I can’t imagine, a fellow biker disappeared in that zone DR 650, never to be heard of again, this was a few years ago, no trace of him or the moto. Carry at least 1 spare tube ( front that’ll suffice for front and temporary back). Try to visit Tarija in the south before crossing into Argentine, Tarija is by far the most beautiful place in Bolivia. Safe travels. Now you know, when you send a package back or give stuff away to lighten your load you’ll immediately need what you’ve sent back…ask me how I know. Safe travels.
When the shit hits the fan, that's when the true adventure starts.
What a episode, kept me on the edge of my seat let me tell ya.
I was on the edge of my seat too... then flying over the edge of the handlebars then the edge of the road. An ice cold beer at midnight never tasted so good in my life!
Awesome. I really enjoyed Bolivia despite the troubles. Even more so than Peru, I think.
Cheers John! Peru is still tops for me. Currently in Chile fighting the wind everyday!
FYI, Every little bit of help on this incredible/ amazing journey is very welcomed. Thanks for all the support! buymeacoffee.com/trippingwithal
unreal!! just amazing scenery and the roads!! yikes Thanks Al just crazy!
Pretty awesome eh! So happy that I'm getting to see all this from my motorcycle.

👌👌👍☝️
looks like you are having fun as well!

oh you're going to have a good time when you go!
my goodness Al, look at this, wow Thanks for sharing....
pretty good eh! You need to go see it all for yourself Rossi!
Fantastic episode Al, that was truly one of you best episodes..
Curvas de Huarochiri y Cañon del Pato al principio😂😅
There are some amazing roads on your channel! Thanks for watching.
Shama Lama Ding Dong! Loved the Rainbow mountains in Peru , bright colored houses, and Death (Shit your pants) road. I think the scariest part of the video was u going into a church! Lucky u got out of there before it crumbled!!
FYI, I only went into 1/8 of a church but you gotta start somewhere!
What is the road you are taking from La Pampa until Huanaco? 3N? Would you recommend this for a cyclist?
I'm pretty sure it was 3N but they are all starting to blend together. Can't recall if it was cycle friendly though. It seems so long ago now (just entered Chile)
If you're enjoying my videos and want to or are able to pitch in towards the costs of this adventure, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks everyone for watching, subscribing, commenting and just being amazing humans! buymeacoffee.com/trippingwithal
Nice. I agree rainbow mountain is worth it. But not for the typical Instagram photo you see. The view around it and the ride up to it, makes it worth it. Also. I don't believe you had just 2 beers that night in Bolivia. ;-)
perhaps I had a couple more than 2 beers, I'm not that good at maths.
It's a beautiful area! Those vans and biases are so annoying. They won't give an inch to let you by.
no shit eh! Thankfully I have the raw power of a KLR650 to be able to overtake almost nothing.
👏👏👍👍
put this route on your list for when you ride across Peru for sure!
Hola AL! Really enjoy your videos! Obviously you're enjoying traveling everywhere! Peru is awesome! More and more people are going to discover your channel. Looking forward to the next video! I dream about doing what you're doing! Ride Safe AL!
Hi Jack, thanks for watching the vids. YES, I am having an amazing time. I've just decided to spend all my money travelling now instead of waiting.
