    Hey there! ❤ Just putting it out there-I’m a mom to 8 (ages 28, 21, 19, 18, 16, 13, 10, and 5), so I know firsthand that parenting is no easy task! Whether you’re a parent, stepparent, foster parent, or guardian, raising kids comes with challenges, and most parents are truly doing the best they can with what they have. I grew up with friends from unstable homes and have known people who worked with children in the foster care system-kids who, sadly, didn’t have a parent or a place to truly call home. It’s heartbreaking. So I get that, from the outside, it’s easy to judge a situation, but sometimes what looks like “not enough” is actually everything a parent has to give. Not every family can afford a big house or a picture-perfect life, but hopefully, as this teen grows up, she’ll have the opportunity to shape her own future and make choices that work for her. And let’s be real-some of the loudest opinions on parenting often come from those who’ve never raised a child themselves! Raising a family is no joke, and at the end of the day, most parents are just trying their best.

    I'd look for a place like Cairo, IL. There's a lot of abandoned property there. There could be water and sewage, and maybe an electrical hookup is possible.

    I do not struggle with my weight. I found this video interested. Therevare many people who don't walk at campgrounds which has always been strange to me. Struggling to.walk with the weight of laundry I give you credit. True hiker culture is to be encouraging on the trail with other hikers. I didn't know what to make of it when I first encountered it. I believe most people are sincere when.offering support to other hikers.

    Wait, why can't fat people go horseback riding? Asking as a "normie". Seems like most of history horses had to carry riders, supplies, and armor so that even a modern day fat person of around 500 lbs should be easliy accomodated if they're not going to war. What am I missing?

    • @OurMovingCastle
      @OurMovingCastle 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh a lot of the places set up for travelers/tourists to do these kinds of activities will place rider weight limits (cruise ship excursions are notorious for it, as an example). It's their prerogative. Whether it makes sense or not, it's fairly common.

    • @OurMovingCastle
      @OurMovingCastle 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I also did a quick search just now and apparently it's breed dependent. And a lot of farms have weight limits of 200-250 lbs

    • @OurMovingCastle
      @OurMovingCastle 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not a horse expert or anything, but I would imagine that warhorses are a different breed than what people have on most farms.

    • @DevHazy
      @DevHazy 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Essentially in many former periods, if a 4 year old horse was broken(trained to have a rider) they could just carry the stuff across the country for a year - say that horse got lame and you couldn’t use it? A family could eat it or barter it for a useful horse that could last a year. Horses today are not used and traded like that, they are VERY expensive to maintain so any tiny injury will cost people thousands of dollars. Horses live to about 30 so 4 is very young and fit. Usually any show barns or riding lessons or beach rides will have horses age 10-20 and by those ages they’ve undergone colic, shoe issues, leg issues, puncture wounds, etc. so the owners have invested a ton into them and it’s not worth a $50 ride sale to risk even the tiniest injury or lameness

    • @OurMovingCastle

    I'm glad you have the resources to live in a S&B house again. We were forced to sell our S&B home in Louisiana when they raised our property taxes 1,000%. Could you imagine if your local taxing authority added a zero to your tax bill making say a $3,500/yr bill $35,000/yr? After Hurricane Katrina our homeowner's insurance doubled too, leaving us the choice of either renting a small place or getting a MH and traveling, as our meager retirement just isn't enough. It was the best decision we ever made. Now our housing costs and fuel costs combined are less than just our property taxes were, and we enjoy seeing all the things we couldn't when we were working 6 days/wk. to support all the expenses we were saddled with. In fact, we live this lifestyle for 1/3 what it used cost to live in our old S&B home. We don't miss all the bills we were paying, for sure. We no longer have a mortgage, electric bill, property tax, sewer/water bill, landscaping, HOA fees and fines, cable bill, etc. Even the repairs and maintenance on our motorhome is less than on our S&B home as we do them ourselves. It's good being debt free. We live on about $14k a year less than our retirement income so we have sufficient savings for emergencies too. We now enjoy living in the cool mountains in the summer rather than sweating to death and being carried away by mosquitos in our old Louisiana home. When it's cold, we like to either winter over in the desert SW or in the RGV of S. TX to avoid the snow - living where the weather fits our clothes. That's the nice thing about having a home on wheels. If the weather turns, you don't like the neighbors or just get tired of the scenery, simply move. We are set-up for boondocking in our 35ft MH with over 5,000 watts of solar and a battery bank equal to 18, 100ah Battleborn batteries, so have all the power we need. Your husband sounds handy too. I'm sure he could have designed and built a system like we did too. We have 2 A/Cs too, one of which is a super high efficiency heat pump so we can live off-grid and still enjoy 24/7 A/C and heat powered by the sun. We haven't had to run our 5,500w generator in the last 2 years we have been living off grid, virtually for free. We carry 150+ gallons of water with us and have sufficient waste capacity to last the 2-week Forest Service and BLM camping limit, so only need to move when the rules say we must. We've never work camped as we've never had to. We boondock most of the time, but now we're visiting family on the East Coast where boondocking places are rare. Instead, we're staying in a no hook-up campsite in a convenient RV park enjoying full use of the facilities for only $100/mo. Life is good. It's good that you're able to keep your coach so that when wanderlust strikes you can still travel as you like. We've been living the FT lifestyle for 6 years and intend to continue to do so for as long as we can. When we can't safely travel anymore, we'll settle down in a nice, inexpensive RV park and live out the rest of our lives there. Good luck to you. Wishing you all the best!

      I'm really glad we knew going into this that RV life could require an extremely high level of handiness and a realistic/pessimistic budget. (We did a lot of research before we got on the road.) A lot of people have a rude awakening.

  • @googleuser2170
    @googleuser2170 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Good, honest video. So many (most) TH-camrs post an unrealistic picture of RV life. I have met so many people (including me) who thought it could be a way to simplify and really reduce costs. Luckily, we didn't jump in with both feet. My wife and I spent 1 month in a rental RV and then did 1 month in a Toyota Prius, staying in hotels and Airbnb. Both in the U.S. Southwest at the end of summer/start of fall. Not counting the RV or Car rental costs the monthly costs were surprisingly close and the car came out on top (this doesn't factor in vehicle pricing, depreciation, and long-term maintenance). I was amazed at how expensive some RV sites were, oftentimes the same as a hotel. A few times, they were more! Rarely were they massively cheaper. I am sure this would change in the off-season or in less desirable areas, but we travel because we love these areas. We didn't have any significant issues with our rental RV. She was a bit squeaky and had a few electrical gremlins, but nothing too bad. It did drink the fuel (8-10mpg), and it wasn't relaxing to drive or park in the areas we wanted to explore. Hooking up was easy, dumping was never pleasant. Campgrounds varied from excellent to terrible. The Internet service was great to mediocre. We are card game players and social, so we appreciated some campgrounds had great areas to socialize. This was the best thing about RV life for us, but only about 25% of campgrounds made us feel that way, and those tended to be the expensive ones. They also had cabins to rent at these places, which were just marginally more expensive than a space rental. Compared to the Prius and hotels. The car averaged 43+ mpg, and the hotels/Airbnb averaged less than $88 per night. Many included breakfast. We also capitalized on hotel rewards programs with Marriott and Hyatt and earned many free nights with points combined with hotel-branded credit cards. Since our experiment, we have also earned top-tier status with both hotel chains, which gives us access to many other amenities, including members clubs with free soda, alcohol and snacks, 4 pm checkout, suite upgrades, and more. While on the road we had a cooler in the back seat of the car for simple lunches on the road, but also ate out a lot. The food cost was slightly more, but it was also a much nicer experience with no cleanup and we got to interact with some interesting people at the restaurants. It's amazing how even small towns have great Mexican, Indian, Thai, Chinese, and other food and the prices can be good. I think the RV life could be great for the right person, but it is not a way to save money or reduce stress. Many influencers are selling this as a way to reduce costs and live a simple life. I am sure you could save some cash vs. our experience by just parking an RV at a campground in a less desirable region for months at a time. You wouldn't have fuel, as much maintenance, wear and tear, etc., but that defeats the purpose. Sure, boondocking could be cheaper, but that isn't our idea of fun. I also heard so many reliability issues from people at the RV parks. Slides, generators, plumbing, transmission, engine, etc problems. Also, the depreciation is pretty incredible. The math just doesn't add up for our life and I honestly wonder hw the math adds up for anyone. I understand it from a love RV life, just not a financial one. We ended up buying a lightly used Prius, living 25% of the year on the road in the U.S. The Prius is insanely reliable and very cheap to service. I park it at my brother's house when we are out of the country, and it doesn't take up enough space to inconvenience him. I can park it in any parking space and go down the tightest of roads when we are traveling. The rest of the year we stay in lower-cost places like Spain/Portugal in the off-season or Indonesia/Malaysia anytime. As a matter of fact, we just left The Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta after 2 months. It was $48 a night, including one of the largest breakfast buffets I have ever seen. We were upgraded to a suite. The hotel is on 40 acres, including golf, bike trails (free bikes), 3 pools, hot tubs, saunas, and more. We also get free access to the Regency Club, which offers snacks and soft drinks all day and, at 5:30 pm, offers a nice selection of food, including sliders, chicken fingers, sushi, and made-to-order soups, in addition to free wine and spirits. They have great wifi and an amazing staff that now feels like family (we have stayed with them 3x in the past). There is no need to leave the hotel or spend extra money, but when we do, we can eat dinner for $1-2. We also earned thousands of points that we can use to get free rooms at any of the 45 category 1 or 2 Hyatts in the American southwest.

    I can't imagine living fulltime in any RV. Our house is so nice and comfortable but we love our small Roadtrek campervan that we use for day trips to local state parks and vacations out west like the Black Hills. Nice thing about a small and simple campervan is the drivability and fewer things to break along with the fact we can park it alongside our garage. I think we have the best of both worlds. Good luck!

    Wow. The same bunk for ELEVEN years rather than even a tiny bedroom, extremely limited number of things to call her own due to lack of space, home-schooled until insisted otherwise, and never provided a system to make friends and build a support mechanism for herself. Sounds incredibly isolating and like a downright cruel thing to do to a child. There is no rationalizing that or convincing anyone sane that it's a healthy way to raise a child. There are ways to make a nomadic lifestyle healthy for a kid, but those conditions are not it.

    You must not have had kids. Teenagers are always complaining about something, and always wanting something more. Also, there is no normal. Every town, neighborhood, and school is different. It is anyones guess which, if any, would make her happy. There is no point taking this teen seriously. She needs to learn to be appreciative of want she has. Millions of kids have it worse, living in broken homes, crime ridden neighborhoods, drugged up or abusive parents, or living on the streets. But she has to travel the country in an RV like she is always on vacation: poor baby.

    • @TheJustineCredible
      @TheJustineCredible 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      OMG... What kinda messed up parent were you? I raised a son, survived his teen years but made sure he had a "sticks and bricks" home base with friends and connections that EVERY child and teen need! It's called forming a "FOUNDATION" Depriving kids of this leads to all sorts of problems. The fact she hasn't run away or gotten into drugs, or worse, is statistically incredible! The fact that this teen is self-aware enough to know that being raised without that stable foundation is NOT the NORM is pretty awesome. I would love to move into an RV full time, that's actually my plan, but I can't imagine forcing a child or a teen to live that way. It's a hard life. Constantly moving, never making those foundational connections, having to be either "home schooled" or online schooled - which can be hit and miss for nomads - is HARD on that teen's sense of belonging. The alternative to living nomadically is NOT always living in a broken home, or with violence, or gangs, or drugs. Some actually live "normal", boring lives. Some live with families that put their kids first, that make sure they have those foundational connections. I don't mean being well off, God knows I never was, but my son wanted for NOTHING! He got everything he needed. He was a good kid, that made good grades, and was taught to respect himself and others. He learned to do his own laundry at age 10 because he got mouthy about how I folded his tshirts, so I taught him responsibility through regular weekly chores. Yes, my son was a child of divorce, but I would NEVER have called it a "broken" home. He had love, he had extended family, he had friends and a good, solid foundation. He had extra-curriculars that he loved and excelled at...and I supported his talents and interests. But NOT giving a child a choice to explore those things in a safe, loving, foundational home is a form of neglect!

      @TheJustineCredible You are living in a strange imaginary world. About everything you said was one assumption built on another. It's your mind that has no foundation. Thinking that the current orthodoxy is always the best, is the most basic primative thinking there is. You are just memicing others without thinking for yourself. So what they do, I must do, or I'm bad. How simple can a mind be?Do what most people do, if not, your child suffers. Who says? Right and wrong isn't determined by group think. Our ancestors lived in shacks of sticks or stones. Before that, they lived wherever they could sleep for tens of thousands of years. They roamed from land to land in search for food. They didn't have Walmarts, TVs, movies, and the Internet. They were happy, and they prospered and their kids played, laughed, and grew up to marry and be parents and grandparents themselves. It isn't about an artificial made up concept like a "brick foundation". That's in your head. They weren't without anything, because they had each other; love, family, etc. I have never heard a more ridiculous nonsensical rant than what you just said. You need to get on the right medication, or adjust the dose.

    I have owned the P5000 Abearl since 1/1/2024. It runs my off grid rv 24/7. Not 1 problem. Usually charge with generator and from 20% takes 2-2 1/2 hours to recharge. Slightly longer if i'm running appliances. Installed 5,000 btu ac and in high humidity summer heat of TN, have to charge it twice a day. In winter weather, like now, 11/23/2024, I'll go 2-4 days b4 recharging, gas heat. Have 960 watts of solar panels plugged in but with all the trees around me it doesn't help in summer and marginally in winter. I do cut the inverter off at night when i'm not running ac. Woke up with 62% battery. Cell phone booster, amplified antenna, weather station, tv football on all day, charge phone and computer, light going away and I have 66% @4 pm from tree shaded solar. I run fridge and small separate freezer on another battery solar system. Have ecoflow delta 2 with extra battery for backup though small, its a reliable workhorse that I have charged 3 times a day in summer to run ac. No complaints here with either battery generator. Best wishes and have safe, happy holidays and new year!

These are my thought and you can research them. 1) Ditch the top sheet. Have Justin put on the fitted sheet, but not the top sheet. Get something like a duvet with a cover. 2) Get two duvets. I don't know where I read it, but I read somewhere that the solution to fighting over the covers in Scandinavian countries is to give each sleeper their own duvet (or blanket or whatever). No one is able to hog the covers. That may not be a problem here. Anyway, fluff and fold the duvets in the morning and fix the pillows. Bed made!
