Hello and Welcome to today's video. As Cyclone Jasper approaches the coast ti the north of us, the chicken farm started to feel the effects of strong wind and rain. Behind The Scenes of 100 Chickens

Today's video is different to my normal uploads. In this video, I show exactly what it is like to raise 100 chickens, from the perspective of no video being made. There is nothing that has been edited out or in, this video is just pure footage of me with my 100 chickens. As of December 2023, I have around 100 chickens. I have 4 main breeds, Rhode Island Reds, Silkie Chickens, Aracaunas, also kn...

Discover the Beauty of Belgian Bantam Chickens: A Complete Guide
I’ve got a very unexpected broody hen right now, ironically, I have an incubator full of eggs too, so thinking of transferring the eggs to the hen… ironically I bought an Orpington so that I could have a hen that would go broody and of course now a different hen that I already had has gone broody 😂
The content was good but the camera work and editing have a lot to be desired,. I could not watch it in its entirety.
The core and seeds can be deadly
Your videos resolution really sucks it should be 2160p 60 fps to be really nice by a special camera 📷 like a gopro or something else
I don't think guinea hens can eat medicated feed. I had 17 2 died from the cold. I keep mine in with chickens doing great
Woo finally another upload, interesting to see what's been happening!
Hahaha your welcome
Guineas are soo loud 😅
They are a adorable breed
My mum’s uncle has about 300 chickens or should I say rooster’s, the reason why I said rooster’s it’s bc he has more rooster’s than hens😂
Once I was attacked by a rooster when I was pretty young about 7 or 8. Luckily I had all winter clothes on which protected me from any harm.
alright I have answer to your problem separate the roosters give them equal amount of hens each so they don't fight and you have two flocks
The eggs might be hidden somewhere
Ausmectin? So fast i couldnt pause to see it
I think they like it 😂
I'm curious but too lazy to watch 😅. It would be convenient next time to maybe list the totals or show a spreadsheet. I see you had some numbers and popups but I couldn't find a summary scrolling through. Understandable though, I did not make succinct videos when I started YT. Or ever for that matter lol Nice that you're keeping track though, cheers.
Haha understandable. I did think about putting a summary somewhere, but my spreadsheet sheet is kind confusing and hard to read. Also I was trying to make people watch as long as possible. (Typical TH-camr lmao)
😜 Well I suspect next years version may look different, due to your personal growth in presenting/filming/editing/post production/etc... As well as the overall changing tides of TH-cam video style, as I notice lots of commenters in other videos are grateful for a lack of intro, no backstory/sponsors, and conciseness. Tough for me cause I naturally ramble, but I can see where they are coming from as a viewer myself.@@ChookFarmer Lol, I'm tempted to ask what the total breakdown was in $$$, but I guess you could just direct me back to watch the video where it's all laid out lol. Which puts us back into a Chicken and Egg situation, (pun intended). :p Ha happy holidays and new year. Maybe I'll get chickens sometime this year.
@@AdamBechtol get chickens, you definitely won’t regret it, I made about $2899 (aud) profit in 2023
Haha - Merry Christmas! 🎅not sure you could see what you're doing but it turned out great! 🤣Making a cake with fresh eggs does make a difference, it rises better and is yellower - not that I make cakes, my mum & daughter did/do (baking skips a generation) I make omelettes or brew stuff... PS most shop-bought eggs are fertile too (don't tell anyone). #372 subs
Hahaha I’m not much of a chef lol. But yes the cake does turn out better then normal eggs. That’s interesting, I have tested normal eggs here in Australia, and they are usually not fertile. Maybe the farms in England have roosters running around. Merry Christmas!
no-one can tell anymore 🤣
This came up on my suggested. Commenting for the algorithm. Get a mic and would love to see day in the life etc. Will sub too
Thanks mate! Will definitely have to look into it. Thanks so much, and merry Christmas from Australia!
Great informative video man. I would definitely invest in that mic and continue the content. You have a great niche and skillset to make money on TH-cam too
Cheers mate! Really appreciate the feedback and inspiration. Will definitely buy a mic! Merry Christmas from Australia!
FFS
4:03 the thought of that isn’t pleasant lol
you wouldn't notice it unless you had a trained eye
Good video bro , thanks for the inspiration
thanks mate, appreciate the comment. Now im inspired!
I can’t hear the audio
sorry about that. The wind can sometimes mess with it. Im thinking about getting a mic or something.
Your camera shakes too much, it's dizzy to watch. Get a tripod, it will improve your video a lot.
2:40 Raymond must’ve got a little too exited
Wow you've been busy and did well! 👍For comparison a 20kg bag of pellets is £11 here in UK, a dozen eggs £2.40, I have 10 Silkie hens worth about £25 each, 1 araucana/2 x silkie , 5 rescue hens (£5 18 months old), of 10 chicks hatched 7 survived - all cockerels! 🤣🤣🐓🐓 My biggest expense is housing - shed, coops, arks, pens & wire fencing - so it's just an expensive hobby for me!
very interesting. 11 pounds translates to 20 Australian dollars, so still much cheaper. Man eggs are cheap there, are they caged or free range?. Silkie hens in Australia can almost go for $50 each. the housing is getting quite expensive these days. Thanks for watching!
Very successful can’t wait to see next year
@@ChookFarmer caged eggs a bit cheaper
W beginning 4 months profit! Can't wait to see the earnings for next year!
Hahahah me to! Hopefully we can improve exponentially (Did you see that math methods right there)
It's not easy being a chook farmer, I think Silkies and chicks are quite vulnerable. You could get a trailcam or similar to see what's going on when you're not there 👍
Yes silkies and chicks are not as switched on as other breeds haha. I recently just got a trail camera to put up. That will be a video in itself!
Deez nuts 😅
Chickens don’t like deez nuts
@@ChookFarmer dey don't like dose nuts either! 🤣
Mine eat peanuts fine, poor Annastasia looks like a prolapse - I lost a lavendar araucana too (Hawkeye). Perhaps separate the 2 hens with chicks - mine fought over the chicks and killed one. What happened to the other chicks and how do you deal with rats? The cockerels will probably be skinny & as tough as old boots, best get 'meat birds'. G'day from Shropshire 🐔👍
These were almonds and some different type of nuts, so maybe that’s why. I just searched up prolapse and I think your right. Would that have caused the sneezing and coughing to begin with? I have had good experiences with multiple hens raising chicks, but I will keep a close eye on them. The other chicks kinda just slowly disappeared and died. I found a few dead ones but I don’t why they all died. A couple were taken by butcher birds, some maybe rats, and some may have gotten lost. But I am now down to 4 out of around 12. Rats is becoming a major problem. I have got some baits out, but there are way to many of them, it’s horrendous. When you go out there at night, it looks like balls of bait fish scattering. It’s gotten really bad. Any suggestions? That is probably true about the rooster meat. I will keep it in mind. Thats actually really cool your from England. Thanks for watching mate! G day from Mackay
@@ChookFarmer I don't think sneezing & coughing is related - my araucana was egg-bound, epsom salt baths worked a few times, she was such a good layer. We have 4 cats & never seen a rat 'til this month! I remove or cover food night-time & got a treadle feeder. Neighbour uses red-something rat-bait - not sure if it works yet. Might borrow my daughter's border terrier overnight 🤣🤣Cheers!
hahaha. im in desperate need of cats, but dad won't let me, because we live across the road from the chickens, and ain't there all the time. Hopefully I can convince him in the coming year haha. Its always the good quality chickens that die sadly.
"once you start you can never go back" truer words were never spoken🤣😶🌫
Hahahah😂 yes indeed!
Well said! 👍👍here in UK the 'Chicken out!' campaign highlighted chook welfare & made their lives a little better, yet still hens are caged, and cockerels killed at hatch 😥I've seen the free-range set ups here 12,000+ chickens per shed but with access outside, they go in a pie at 72 weeks (unless rescued by us). Backyard/garden eggs are best (natural orange yolks etc) - love your Silkies btw, they're so adorable. Keep up the good work! 🐔🐔
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
😊
6:43 I are with what the lady said in this clip because those chickens that are caged don’t no any other alternative meaning that it is true that all they want is food and water. What else would you want when you don’t know any better.
They have natural instincts that would want them to. I get newly hatched chicks and within 3 days they are dust bathing etc in there little brooder things. At least trying
That is not true for all breeds of chickens, and besides how would you like to be stuck inside a building with your feces and urine building up every day, not getting sunshine and no exercise? Does that really sound healthy to you? Does that sound natural? Didn't think so. Just use some common sense and you can figure it out.
2:04 quantum theories?
4:29 you should set up a camera
perhaps I should. it happened again today!
It was because of the Christmas lights for sure
You know, it actually could be. More research required though
