FactionFab How to Adjust Pre-Load and Ride-Height on Coilovers Suspension
Hi I know this a old video but... I try to adjust av opreload after your specification and That wasn't Enough O2 WRX FL V2 suspension Have you encounter this before
There were some changes between the V1 and V2 coilovers (which were released after this video), so certain specs might not work for your application. We do walk through this same process on the install instructions PDF, which is hosted on our website and up to date. Check this and also feel free to email us if you have any specific questions! www.factionfab.com/collections/coilovers/products/factionfab-v2-fl-spec-coilovers-2002-2007-wrx-04-sti
Hey, just a quick question. I bought this steering wheel a while back and installed on my 86 and the wheel seems to be slightly off center due to the gear thingy that connects to the steering hub is not exactly aligned with the original steering wheel. What can I adjust to make it center? I really need to know how to fix it as this is the best steering wheel I've seen and I'll ever own!
The steering wheel spline index/alignment is not controlled by Subaru, so even two OEM wheels will not have perfect alignment. Any time the steering wheel is changed there is a risk of the alignment being off, but most of the time the difference is so small that it is unnoticed. The recommended solution here is to compensate for spline index with a front wheel alignment and getting the tie rods slightly shifted. Feel free to email in to us at sales@factionfab.com if you have any further questions!
@@factionfab5834 Thank you for the solution! Will there be any down sides to compensateing it by adjusting front wheel alignment?
@@aoiSUB The amount required is well within a normal toe alignment adjustment, so no downsides. Just shoot for the closest spline alignment on your steering wheel during installation.
I have no idea what i did wrong i spent hours loosening and tightening and re adjusting mine..but my right tip stick way out past the bumper and the left tip sits slightly under the bumper i cant figure it out...can anyone help me?
If you still need some help with this, please email us at sales@factionfab.com and we can walk through some diagnosis. Seeing some photos of the inside of the tips and the pipes will be helpful so we can make sure everything is up to spec.
Purchased the suede and leather for my 2013 Sti. It's literally the first thing people notice when the see the interior. They also have to touch it while saying "nice."
Very good 👍
Incredible helpful video. Thanks so much.
Did you guys know that the 2023 and 2024 F150 Resonator end pipe on the muffler side has a button type on the end of it where the factory resonator locks into place .. if you need a video to show you .. please let me know .. I can post it on my channel ..
Yes, actually all of the 2010 and newer trucks use a pin-/twist lock feature on the resonator / muffler connection, but we opted for the simpler slip-joint design. Our resonator should to UP TO the pin (not on top of) and then clamped in place.
@@factionfab5834 ahhh!! Oh ok, I was just making sure since I ordered one for my 2024 F150 3.L crew cab 145 size option … I will be posting a video on my channel as well .. thanks for the info .. 👍🏼🥃🇺🇸
Do the suede wheels have a more or less round cross-section on the top half of the wheel circle? I'm not liking the weird flattened shape of the upper part of stock wheel grip.
The top cross section is pretty much unchanged from the OEM wheel. We reverse engineer the core of the wheel and then pretty much only modify the side contouring and lower section (increase the D shape). I know exactly what you're talking about though, the flat edge along the top is somewhat controversial among our team. Some people love the shape and say it gives better grip and feel, some want it to be more of a true circle. Ultimately, we decided to mimic the OEM shape.
@@factionfab5834 Thanks for the info!
Do you have to remove the coilover to adjust the higher?
Copy/Paste from your same question on our other video: Yes it is possible, but depending on how much adjustment you are going for it may be easier and faster to remove the lower bolts so the lower mount can spin freely. The weight of the suspension, knuckle, etc can be a bit of a workout on the forearms if you are trying to adjust them while fully installed.
Question is it possible to just adjust them without removing them
Yes it is possible, but depending on how much adjustment you are going for it may be easier and faster to remove the lower bolts so the lower mount can spin freely. The weight of the suspension, knuckle, etc can be a bit of a workout on the forearms if you are trying to adjust them while fully installed.
I change my but the air bag is on need help!!
First recommendation is to not drive the vehicle, then go back double check the install, making sure that all electrical connectors are fully seated and not pinched or damaged. If there are still lights on, it is recommended to take to a shop with full diagnostic tools.
Did the install, but to make the car go straight, I have to hold the wheel at a slight angle. Am I one tooth of fon the spine, or did I move the clock spring while installing (not sure if that matters)
Unfortunately this is a common result of a steering wheel swap. OEM wheels do not specify a "top center" alignment of the splines on the steering wheel and the final alignment is always controlled by the full alignment service at the factory. Due to the high spline count, most people don't see this issue and usually are very close, but occasionally if the OEM wheel is a at the farthest point possible it will need an alignment to be corrected.
@@factionfab5834 thanks I got an alignment and it fixed it!
Hello, I know that this is an old video but I just ordered and got these today in 2024 and my tips are the exact same size as the actual axle back. So I can’t put my tips on at all. Just wondering if I did anything wrong or if I got sent the wrong size?
All our tips and axle back outlets should be the same size, so it could be a tolerance production issue. Please email us with some photos of the two pieces, and if you have a set of calipers or a tape measure in the photo so we can see which piece might be wrong, that would be very helpful. Wow even with torque specs, what a Fab tutorial.
Bought these a week ago and i must say i wasnt happy when i opened the package and looked at the tips to see that they dont look like the ones in this video or like the ones posted from faction fab online. The tips are black but on the inside of the tips they dont look like the ones in this video they are just black. The reason i went with these was bc they were black along with the burnt titanium look bluish look at the inside of the tips so im not happy with having thought they were gonna look like the ones in the video but they do not so i just wanted to let other ppl know in case they were gonna order these thinking they were gonna get what you show here in the video
Hello! Can you email us with a photo of the tips you received along with the part number you ordered? Nothing should have changed on our end, so I would like to see if it is a one-off issue you have. Sales@factionfab.com
I'm the same way I ordered black tips thinking they were gonna be a nice dark gloss black and when I received them they look like a dark chrome color they are honestly super ugly and if I would have known they weren't gonna be actually black I would have just ordered the burnt tips! Absolute huge thumbs down for this purchase.
thank you! perfect walk through!
Where I can buy those spacers? I have a F150 2016 and need 1 1/2 spacers. Thanks.

Cab & wheelbase being the same (2014 F150 crew 5.5 bed); is there a difference for the 5.0 & 3.5 Ecoboost pipes?
Thanks Greg! I just installed the FactionFab all leather wheel from SubieSupplyCo. (their part SSC V2 FULL BLACK LEATHER STEERING WHEEL WITH RED STITCHING ) this afternoon using your video. Great stuff! Like another person below I had additional controllers (phone answering paddles on the bottom left of my wheel) which came off with a few extra bolts on the back cover. I really appreciated the safety tip with depressing the brake pedal...nothing like holding a small bomb in your hands!
Do you need to change to aftermarket shocks to support these springs?
the rear one is not so simple with the drivetrain in place, i ended out drilling a hole in the old one and levering it out with a screwdriver. Nice peice of kit but. feels good, nice and direct.
It is a little tricky with the driveshaft in place (which we removed because it's even harder to see on the camera with hands AND and driveshaft in the way), but a good selection of extensions, wobbly sockets, and ratcheting wrenches helps to get it out.
Are the fl v2 comes with the adjusters for the coils and for the damper
Yes! All coilovers come with 4 adjuster knobs so you can keep them installed in the coilover at all times for easy adjustment on the road.
I have a 2017 Wrx and I am buying a 2015 sti, will the steering wheel I bought from you guys be able to transfer over?
Yep! The same wheel is used on both models, so you will be able to swap it. I would make sure to keep the controls and buttons in the original car and not swap those, Subaru is known to change pinouts and things for no reason.
Just ordered a FL Spec for my 2004 wrx wagon. 🤞
Rad! We think this is the best bang for buck product that we offer. Hope you enjoy it!
Is it OK if there's only one airbag connector?
I am not aware of any situations where this would be normal and I would highly recommend doing some research. Feel free to email us at sales@factionfab.com with a picture of your airbag so we can see exactly what your setup looks like.
Is there any drone?
Not in most cases. The exhaust can be loud, but usually doesn't suffer from the true resonance / drone that some people experience with a loud single exit. If you have a stock or catted downpipe, no drone at all. A catless downpipe, headers, etc will be more likely to cause some drone.
Coming up on a year of running your FL Spec V2's on my decently modified Toyota GR86. Been super happy with them and I have no plans on swapping them out anytime soon! Question for you guys, I do go up and down a small gravel driveway at my house every day at low speeds. Should I be concerned about premature wear of the coilovers?
We wouldn't expect any excessive wear and tear. High speed / performance driving and putting them through extreme heat cycles is usually the biggest contributor, but unless you use your driveway like Travis Pastrana, you should be fine.
LOL, happy to hear. I go up and down at like 3-4 MPH. Sometimes it's a little bouncy and discomforting but that's the game I have to play haha. Thanks for the reply!!@@factionfab5834
after installing a 1/2 inch spacer. i noticed vibration at different speeds. do I need to get centric washers?
Our wheel spacers are hub centric to the OEM setup, so they shouldn't be needed, however if you have aftermarket wheels with a larger hub bore then this could help prevent the vibration.
Just grabbed the Suede/Carbon fiber wheel from RS quality is bang on good!
Do you know if the faction fab 5 speed bushings will fit on my 2018 Subaru Impreza sport 5 speed?
We have not done any testing on the regular impreza models, but I believe those are cable linkage and do not use this style of shifter bushing.
Just installed the FR spec like about month ago on my wrx and im just wondering if its normal to hear clink noise? Well i hear it on my front driver side. I don't know about the others
If a shop only Torqued to 120 would it be that much of a difference of not at 150? Getting a shake around 60mph and trying to figure out if that may be the cause.
I don’t have a Subaru but the FL spec sound similar to what I have on my Z. After being in another car with pillowballs I can’t see how they make any sense on street but then so many other coilovers go full comfort and show. It’s nice seeing other performance focused, firm coilovers that aren’t harsh and don’t make noise.
Are they serviceable internally?
They are technically rebuildable, but we do not offer a service or the individual components. Instead we have full replacement dampers that can be swapped in reusing the rest of the mounts and spring from your set. We go this route to cut down on expensive labor time and prevent unnecessary down time. You can order the dampers ahead of time and typically swap them out in just a couple of hours! See our website where we have a whole category of dampers and other replacement parts for our coilovers, including instructions.
what website do i orderrr
If the clips were put back and no wires were pulled hard but steering wheel controllers don’t light up or work would you know what would be wrong with the steering wheel?
Don’t fall for this marketing campaign. These coilovers are low low quality!!
Would these steering wheels fit on a Crosstrek?
Why is the top so thin?
What about the FL spec preload is it the same thing set up for this?
so Im getting the FR-spec for 2021 WRX and looking at one inch front and rear. Did the math and think that 68-69mm for front will give 1 inch drop and rear is 52.8mm for the 0.6 inch (plus the already 0.4 inch it already has because stock height is 16" and the coils are 15.625") giving you 1 inch total. Hope this works! yes/no???
Informative video but getting downpipe and studs out was hell for me. I love how easy these videos make it seem.
I just have the fear the airbag is going to blow up. 😂
Just make sure that the battery is disconnected and you should be fine. It's definitely smart to take airbags seriously, but it's nothing to be scared about!
@@factionfab5834 I'll call it an irrational fear haha.
Love that you guys include the braces, that combined with the greaseless bushings makes this a killer value. I have my 22mm rear bar set in the middle hole, how much softer/harder are the other two settings, are they equivalent to 21/23mm respectively?
It's probably closer to a 2mm thickness difference per adjustment setting, but it's a little harder to quantify since it has an exponential increase on the spring rate under load, which can change based on your suspension, vehicle weight, etc. Unfortunately we don't have that amount of detailed data, the testing rig needed to calculate that in a controlled environment would probably run in the millions.
@@factionfab5834 gotcha, just wanted to get a relative sense of the different adjustment settings, even with so many variables at play. Thanks!
Big fan but y’all production time isn’t that well. Been waiting almost 5 months for mine to even come in…production gotta get going👏
It's been a perfect storm of problems for the last ~9 months, we moved welding facilities, had some broken / bent tooling problems, quality issues with a new tube supplier, then finally shopping for a different supplier, then material delays but we are currently in production on our axle backs finally! We should expect them to start hitting the shelves in the next couple of weeks.
Does it matter how the gasket faces
