    I've gone crazy trying to get this feature to work... To even show up... I'm in Arizona and I have a 16.5kW solar array, 54kWh of powerwall (Powerwall-2 x4) setup as a "Whole Home Backup" and a 2023 Model Y. All software and firmware are at their latest revision and the Wall Connector-3 was purchased when I got the car. I've had two different Tesla Certified contractors out here as well as two different Tesla (proper) Reps - no one has any clue what they are doing. They even referred me to Tesla Car service (been there - done that). It's absolutely maddening!! The trouble began when this feature was released! Tesla says to make sure your Gateway (and Powerwalls by default), Wall Connector and Car are all at a minimum specified software release and that your Wall Connector is "paired". Once I paired the Wall connector, the Wall Connector began showing up on my App. Great, right? But my power readings/energy flow became stupid (if anyone has any knowledge on how to unpair your Wall Connector from the Gateway-2 - please leave the details here). ALL energy flow to the house shows as going to the Wall Connector with the house at ZERO consumption (I've noticed since then that when the car reaches its maximum consumption of 11.5kW [even if the car isn't plugged in], then the rollover comsumption begins to show up in the house). That's when I got Tesla involved with their Powerwall Team. Contractors and Tesla Proper came out without resolution - and let me tell ya, it's like pulling teeth to get these morons out. They installed CT's (Current Transformers/clamps/sensors), Neurios w/CT's (add-on wireless units), changed configurations, nothing worked. There's so much more to the story - house blowing fuses due to misconfigurations, etc, etc,,. I as about losing it. I've discovered recently, on my own, that the Tesla Wall Connector will NEVER change its charge rate automatically/dynamically without a Neurio Meter monitoring the Site Draw. The option in the Wall Connector configuration (not the Gateway configuration) to add a Neurio will NEVER show up until an RS485 communication link has been properly established between the Wall Connector-3 and said Neurio-2. Essentially, a two conductor shielded twisted pair must be present between the Wall Connector-3 and the Neurio-2 before the option will even show up in the Wall Connector-3 Configuration. At this point the Wall Connector-3 can associate current draw with the Gateway-2 via the data it learns from the Neurio-2. Whether it be "Dynamic Charging" or "Charge-on-Solar" which is essentially dynamic charging controlled differently. Bottomline - you've been very fortunate my friend to have someone come out to your home and make this work. Don't discount that. Soooo many Tesla morons out there. I've just recently relegated taking matters into my own hands. I just can't absorb any further incompetence. They've left me no choice (Again, please understand - I've got some stories). I'll come back and comment further when the task at hand has concluded - good or bad.. But, at this point, I've given up on any Tesla based human beings for knowledge or action.. sigh,,,

    How do you have the powerwalls setup? You can set how much you want to share with car charging. You could see in the end of the video it was pulling from the powerwalls to meet the 10 amps you set.

    • @greghudson9717
      @greghudson9717 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was pulling from the grid because the current going into the car was greater than the Solar and PowerWall combined could send. I have the exact same setup, and it is very clever. Also you need a Tesla wall connector Version 3 to make it work with your car (unknown if it works with non Tesla vehicles). If you have a Powerwall, the gateway monitors what is happening, so if a cloud comes over (and the battery is not full), it will not send any power to the car. The battery MUST be full before it stars to fill the car (at least that's how I understand it, but I could be wrong).

    Hey, Shane. So it's been 5 years since you made this video. Do you still have your RadCity and, if so, how it is performing? Any loss in performance due to an aging battery, or anything related to the wear and tear on its electric motor? BTW, I've taken your advice and try not to overly stress my electric motor by going too high in watts -- I typically use PAS 3 to be my max. setting for hills, which is fine -- I didn't buy this bike to serve as an electric motorcycle. :-) Hey, btw, I recall you mentioning awhile back that you're from the islands? If so, I hope that if you know anyone on Maui, that they are doing okay and were unaffected by the recent wild fires. My dad's side is from both Maui and Oahu. 🤙

    • @TrulyElectric

      My family and I moved back to Maui 6 months ago. We in town and not on the west side, so we are safe. However, it is such a heartbreak seeing Lahaina completely destroyed and the lives lost. We drove through to get to Kaanapali last weekend for the first time and it was a difficult sight to see. The last 5 months, I’ve been doing short 1-2 mile rides several days a week riding my son to school. Still working great!! Although I have only little over 1500 miles after all these years. But it’s a 2017 mode and the battery is still going, motor still kicking strong! 😀 I just got a flat but once fixed, I do need to do another range test to see how much battery was reduced. We’ll see, thanks for reaching out!

    • @Tanstaafl1976
      @Tanstaafl1976 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrulyElectric Glad you and your family are all well! Yes, the fires were terrible and the results were all very sad all around. We got our RadCity Step-Thru 3 in mid-2021, but the model is very likely a 2020. My battery became defective after 200 miles and it took a handful of months of going back and forth between me and the Rad Power tech folks to iron out this problem. I've only got about 200 miles on the new replacement battery. So far, so good. I hope yours keeps running strong! *SHAKA*

    • @peterspaans5328
      @peterspaans5328 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know the older Rad Cities were the last of the Rad bikes to have regen. The Rad Wagon had it originally but stopped it 2 years before the Rad City stopped it. I compared my Rad City's range to a Rad without regen. The "without" guy bragged about how he got up to 56 kms per hour at one point. On his full day outing he used almost all of his battery and was worried he might not make it home. I repeated his exact trip and stopped at his place and was down one bar on the battery. I pedal down hills with my regen on to always get a max charge into my system. The wattage indicated when on regen has nothing to do with wattage. It is however a very good indicator of the charge in you battery. My system on a fully charged battery shows 292 watts. On the same hill at the same speed but down 2 bars shows 274 watts or less. If it hits 275 while regenerating the battery is then down 1 bar.

    Hi and thank you for this very interesting and informative video. One concern I have relates to what you said about not using the full 750W for climbing and to instead strive for a max. of 500W used on climbs. I didn’t read or hear about this type of limit placed on my RadCity Step-Thru 3 that I recently purchased. I’m over 190 lbs. and live amid some very steep hills for which I use the max. PAS of 5 and in the 700s for watts used. If possible, can you direct me to this caution that Rad Power has provided to end users? Liked and subscribed and thanks for your channel!

    • @TrulyElectric

      Hi Sean! I found this in the bike’s user manual. I remember it being a NOTE in a section about climbing steep grades. Let me know if you can’t find it and I will look for my manual and try to post a pic. I do have a 2017 model, so maybe things have changed too.

    • @FlowJunkie65
      @FlowJunkie65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I checked my RadCity manual and the only reference to climbing is this: "Do not climb hills steeper than 15% in grade" and this related to how to extend range and battery life. I would agree not to push the limits of anything repeatedly over many years because parts will wear out more quickly. I also saw some posts by Rad Power users in 2017 that referenced your comment about not running over 500w on a 15% grade or steeper, and some reported that this related to avoiding overheating of the motor on extended/long climbs because they thought it was kind of ridiculous that you'd have an available 750W of power, but could only use 500W of it. I think the life of the battery was also at issue with this advice. Thanks for calling our attention to this. I plan to adhere to it as much as possible.

    Hi there, I have the Radcity Canadian version (48 v 500w) but yours seems to be different in setting the max speed. I can set to 40 kph as yours allows but I cannot set less than 20 kph, everything below 20 always cuts out a 20. Could I impose on you to try setting yours to let's say 16 kph should cut out at 10 mph. When I set that it still goes and holds at 20 kph. Also my pas1 puts out 106 watts with full battery, I see yours puts out less. Interesting difference. Thanks in advance.

    My 2018 RadCity motor cut out with 2 battery bars still showing after 62 miles using mainly pedal assist 1. I thought that I had spare capacity, so I was using pedal assist 3 to get up a hill. It did not get far up the hill. That was *not* a pleasant surprise. It is a very heavy bike when the battery is depleted.

    And thank you. That last tip helps me get up building steps. Great run through the modes. Gracias.

    This video applies to ALL EVs! If you have free charging available in your area, use it. My RadCity eBike helps me quickly get to and from the car (8 mile round trip). However, a regular bike will do OR use it as an opportunity to get a good run in…way too far for me though :)

    My RadWagon 4 has over 1900 miles on it. I bought an extra battery for long trips; several times a year I've ridden from Portsmouth to Williamsburg, Virginia! about 60 miles. I also go frequently round trip to the ocean front in Virginia Beach, about 55 miles. I'm loving the biking lifestyle!

      That is awesome!! 60 miles is excellent range, is that on PAS 1 or 2?

      @@TrulyElectric I don't understand --- PAS1 or PAS2?

      Sorry for the abbreviation! Do you get 60 miles using Pedal Assist number 1 or 2? Or higher?

      @@TrulyElectric I usually run at PA 3, with my gears at the hardest level. Steep hills, accelerating from/through intersections and strong headwinds will usually change that. My record travel on one charge is 42 miles. That was on The Capital Trail, which runs from Jamestown to Richmond, Virginia. It is the finest bike trail I've known to date.

    Hi there, I'm curious, did you need to make any modifications to your RadCity to attach the trailer?

    • @TrulyElectric
      @TrulyElectric 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes, I had to drill the coupler to fit this bike. True for bikes with direct drive motors. Video here, th-cam.com/video/ExNQ1ICba8M/w-d-xo.html However, any Rad Power Bikes e-bikes with a geared motor has a smaller axel, so no drilling needed.

    The screen on my bike did the same thing as yours, where it went slightly darker on a portion of the left and stayed bright as new on a portion of the right. I don't find it to be a big deal in any way, just interesting to see both bike screens did the exact same thing in almost exactly the same place. Thanks for the video!

      That is so interesting!! Like you said, everything is still visible and not much of an inconvenience. Thanks for sharing!

    I just boughg a Radcity 4. Same as yours. The first day out I did a range test. Not throttle only. Just regular driving in mostly PAS 2 and 3 sometimes 4. I went 66km(41 miles). I stopped the test when the 4th(of 5) bars was going off and on. I figured I had about 10-15% battery left. I don't think I will do a throttle only test.

      That is some great range. I think I got around 32 miles using PAS 2 and 3 on my bike. Thanks for sharing!

    This is an old RadCity e-bike but if you have a newer RadCity, let me know in the comments what throttle only range you are getting!

      Hmm, that’s a good question. I’m not sure, hopefully someone else can comment if this works on their radmini. I’ll look to!

    On my regular (non-electric) bicycle, I only get about 20 Miles per Snickers bar.

    Important tip. Never charge a cold li-ion battery.

      Agreed! During winters, I always bring my battery into the house to acclimate back to ambient temp before charging. I also bring it in during hot summers when my garage reaches 90’s.
