Yeh ... for many, it just kinda happens ... I started making maps, back in High School, just fooling around. Went to a 2-year college and was introduced to surveying ... staff compass and up. Worked 2 years as a naturalist ... not happy. So, I bought a trashed Buff & Buff 1918, made a new vertical circle, and disassembled, cleaned, greased and reassembled. Bought a set of flow pens, and started "surveying things with 100' measured bases and all bearing/bearing intersections ... was having a lot of fun, but still, never realized there were jobs to be had(I thought surveying was engineering). Got my first job in 1976, based on my final draftings ... asked for 5$, and was offered something like $6.25 ... I wonder, if just one or two things were different(in my life), if I ever would have worked as a surveyor, and as a Professional surveyor, from then to 2013(injury/retirement) ... I still fool around with personal pet projects, and I miss surveying. Now I'm getting into drones and orthos ... again, just having fun ...

Such good info! Question, I'm an engineer with an older Spectra robot, but I'm missing a few things in my understanding. Mostly would like to use for construction staking type work but my gun is so limited with no data collector. It is a 1" gun that runs perfect but I'm a little stuck. Care to discuss? I can't find anyone that knows the older equipment to figure out how to modernize.

What is the name of your company? I have a young man in Africa i have been paying school fees for and I would want to see them achieve the best in life; something I didnt get. Do you have any ideas like schools and internships here in the USA that can train them? They are doing a Bachelors degree in Land survey. Any ideas here can help
