The brewery run to fill the growler | Stooge x Renegade Brewery | Winter '22 UK
มุมมอง 2.2Kปีที่แล้ว
The recent cold snap has thawed so I took the opportunity to take the Stooge Dirtbomb for a 24 mile loop to Renegade Brewery to top up the growler whilst the beef stew cooks. A rare sunny and crisp winter day to bimble through the two shires. Lots of great British brands feature in the video; Stooge Cycles, Renegade Brewery, Bentley Components, Beerbabe & Beeline. Check them out. Bike: Stooge D...
Beeline Velo 2 review- simply smart or too simple?
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
I picked up the new Beeline Velo 2 to see how it's moved on from my original Beeline from '15 and how it compares to it's competitors. I took it offroad on a local loop and also commuted with it for a week to see how it performs.
Polygon Zeta 2 review- fun mini velo or gimmick?
มุมมอง 13K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I took out the Polygon Zeta 2 for a local loop to decide what I thought of it. Can it handle the rough and tumble of the countryside alongside the urban environment? Let's take a look. Yes, I meant Bernard Kerr, not Brendan Kerr :D.

    Hello, could you tell me the maximum height of the bicycle seat, and the maximum weight it supports? (My weight is 75 kgs plus my backpack is almost 6 kgs, in total 81 kgs ) thanks a lot.

      I'm exactly the same weight as you. I took a few long rides with a heavy bag and didn't have any issues. I'm not sure on the manufacturers quoted max weight, but I think you'd be absolutley fine. They are usually around 110kg.

    I'm 160cm tall and 413mm of reach is likely going to be a bit of an issue for me. Looking at your bike, I could see that you've already got a zero-offset seatpost on there, so there isn't much that could be done to shorten the reach any further. My Dahon Hemingway was like that when I first picked it up, but having swapped the factory 20mm-offset seatpost with a zero-offset one (a Litepro one off of Aliexpress at first, then a nicer Tern later) made all the difference. Last year I tried a previous-generation Trek Dual Sport in size S that had that kind of reach and I knew right away that there was no way I was going to be able to put up with it.

      It would be so straithforward for the app to provide the option of byways (etc.) as part of the setup.

      @@Niche_Biker Would it? I'm not a developer, but know just enough to know that would require two different routing algorithms, plus maps that showed & distinguished such unpaved routes, or else different maps according to which option was picked. It'd be very straightforward in the UI, in the back-end, maybe not so much.

    Just got it these days and right from the start I liked it. Smart device and up to now working fine. Navigation is refreshingly good. It is reduced down to the essentials, and it works flawless. Taking the right direction at confusing junctions is no problem as optional routes are also displayed and only the one to take is highlighted. Showing them all, even the not needed ones and highlighting the right one is just simple but perfect.

    Since the routes are "powered" by the community have you found the navigation changed whilst using it

    • @Niche_Biker
      @Niche_Biker ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not noticed anything change.. the heatmap still doesn't show any data. There's a prompt at the end of ever ride to rate the route , 1>5, but as with many rides there's good bits and bad bits and giving it a single score isn't a real representation of the different sections which in all likely hood is all another rider would overlap with.

    Very good video, thank you! I am also very interested in trying a mini velo after having purchased a 20" folding bike recently. Unfortunately our Polygon dealer here in Australia only offers an e-bike version called the "Gili Velo", but I don't want an e-bike. Also, I have had a bad experience ordering a bike from the Polygon dealer here in the past which has soured me on them. Mini velos seem to be rare here in Australia, with the only other one I can seem to find (semi) locally being the bloody expensive Velo Orange Neutrino. I like the step-through frame design though, so tossing up whether to get an Chinese alloy frame online and build myself.

    • @Niche_Biker
      @Niche_Biker ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I've not seen the ebike version. I bet that's a laugh! I've toyed with the idea of the Neutrino too after the Polygon went back.. but seems an awful lot of money and the geometry is decidedly old school. Good luck with whatever you chose! They are great fun.

    • @Niche_Biker
      @Niche_Biker ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! The spec is great for the price; Tiagra, hydraulics, 2 piece cranks with external BB and nice geometry. I’d be surprised if you’d fit. I’m 5’9” and the seatpost was about 1.5cm off the minimum insertion line. The reach is also pretty short but workable for my height.

  • @Niche_Biker

    Update on the bike- it went back under warranty. The issues couldn’t be fixed so they’d need to replace the whole bike. In order to return it I had to take it back to a store, even though it’s a mail order bike. I paid through PayPal so it’s a manual processes to refund the money and it took them 3 weeks to do so. What I do next I’m not sure. I’m sold on Mini Velos. They’re great fun. The quality of the Zeta was bad though, so I’m not sure if I get another and cross everything that it’s not a Friday special or do I go down the route of something a little nicer.

    • @darkmatter9171
      @darkmatter9171 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the update! I really like the concept of this mini bike, but it's hard to buy here in Germany - the only dealer currently listing this is 500km away :( After calling other dealers, I got mixed feedback about Polygons built quality. One dealer said, the don't sell Polygons bike anymore because of the bad quality of their fullys: 5 of 5 came back with problems after being sold, bad aftermarket support by Polygon in Europe. Can you give a bit more detail about the problems your bike had, why those could not be fixed and what caused them? If the problems stem from moderate riding like in the video this would be a deal-breaker for me.

    Any update on how the warranty process went? This bike is growing on me but that bottom bracket weld will have be anxious of snapping the frame on a curb hop or pothole!

    • @Niche_Biker
      @Niche_Biker ปีที่แล้ว

      The bike went back for a refund. There were so many issues in the end. Be aware that once the bike is built you have to return it to the store if you original had it posted. I’m not sure what to do now. Do I risk getting another one and hope the quality is improved, or just put the money elsewhere..

    • @DannyBartlettUK
      @DannyBartlettUK ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Niche_Biker I'll likely collect in store and have them witness an inspection with hopes they would immediately refund should i find issues. The weld issues is clearly a quality control mishap, the rest (dents / chips / scratches) it would seem could possibly be put down to shipping / packaging? It's a shame as its quite a nice bike and from a lot of peoples accounts quite a fun ride, and there's not a lot from the mini velo front that is in stock in the UK.

    • @Niche_Biker
      @Niche_Biker ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope it works out for you! I really enjoyed the bike. I think you’re right. The steerer tube dent and scratch is an assembly issue though as it’s shipped with the stem, spacers and top cap fitted. If you go in with your eyes open you should be fine. Not sure how you’ll check wheel tension so early on? Mine ended up with bent spokes on that short ride because it lost so much tension.
