T-shirt ties for a double layer face mask with pocket
มุมมอง 16K4 ปีที่แล้ว
So far the easiest pattern for the fabric face mask I found. Since we are all running out of elastic and sewing your own ties is time consuming, I started using strips cut from the cotton tshirt. You can get about 10-12 pairs of ties form one men's tshirt. When stretched, ties are between 35-40 inches, perfect length to tie your mask securely. I forgot to mention that once ties are threaded, ti...

Vegetable Soup with Rice, Slovak staple soup
มุมมอง 6336 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a basic Vegetable soup with rice using frozen mixed vegetables. While we would always try to use fresh veggies, sometimes it was just quicker and easier to use bag of frozen vegetables. Our usual mix would have carrots, peas and corn but the only one I could find here also has green beans. It worked out great. Back at home in Slovakia, we are addicted to Vegeta seasoning, which is made ...

Pink soup, Borsc, Beet Cabbage Soup
มุมมอง 3197 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my version of a beet soup, or as we call it, a Pink Soup. Inspired by the traditional Russian Borscht but tweak so much over the years, it's far from the real thing. This is our favorite soup. Very healthy and filling. Full of vegetables, little bit of meat and very little fat or empty calories. I made it even easier by combining few steps into one, using a food processor instead of gra...

Hi, I am Otilia from Slovak Homemade Cakes facebook page. Today I want to share a video of cooking Goulash over the fire with my family in Slovakia. Goulash can be made in so many different ways. It always changes even in my family, every time we cook it something is changed a bit. So this is just to illustrate how the whole process looks. Take it as a guideline, a suggestion, not as a strict r...

We're Slovak, mom used to make a huge pot every Christmas. For meat she put in both fresh and smoked Kolbasa (that my dad made) and a pork loin roast, barley and also reconstituted dried black truffles (until they began to get so expensive back in the 70's). Since mom died in 2005 haven't had it since she last made it. So very much miss her, her great culinary skills...and especially that fantastic soup. Thanks so much for the memories...and I'm gonna try and duplicate our traditional sauerkraut soup...your recipe has helped tremendously...!

I lost my Czech recipe for usual poppy seed roll. The crust here was way too hard more like bread crust. Possibly using the mixer? Filling also way too loose and crumbly. Always used honey instead of sugar I didn't know the equivalent of honey to sugar. All in all very disappointing!!

    • @jeanluby4636
      @jeanluby4636 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I use the same as for sugar, honey is roughly the same but gives a nicer fragrance to sugar. I also found the crust somewhat harder than my mom's used to be. This is also my second attempt using a different crust recipe. Will check with my Cz. relatives in Eu see what they say about the kneading. I thought possibly should be kneaded longer.

What a wonderful video! I made this with my grandmother so many years ago and the entire video made me smile inside and out. She melted the wax in a mason jar metal cap in a pie tin placed on the stove. Oooh how my Mom would get mad at the safety risks but we didn't care. LOL

How did you start your plants from seeds or plants? and how often you water them? With such beautiful garden you can teach how to plant.

Thank you Otilia - very nicely done! I hope you will not mind a couple of suggestions. First, my mama used a pinch of ground cloves in the makova plnka, which really picked up the delicious poppy flavor. And at Christmas, she would use orange zest in the poppy seed filling, not just the clove powder. Also, I believe there is a noticeable difference between grinding the poppy seeds and actually pressing them through a real poppy seed grinder (mlyncek na mak). I used to use a spice grinder, but a few years back a friend brought me one from the old country (one of my aunty's) , and I never looked back. These things release more flavor and oils from the seeds. Hope this helps and warmest greetings!

soup has no colour... add more paprika in base... at least 5 times more... 1 or 2 soup spoons of tomato paste will do too... you also forgot bayleaf, pimento, whole black pepper and GARLIC... you can skip Vegeta.. home made fermented cabbage and homemade sausage smoked on real smoke and dryed mushrooms adds another dimension, but i know they not available abroad... potatoes are also neccessary in "Kapustnica"... meat (shoulder) is not so important, but smoked meat - ribs or knee or so is very important if you dont have real smoked sausages

I enjoyed watching this but this is way diff from my family's gulas in Slovakia but to each their own. We would have freshly shot up deer backstrap and onions would be like 25% of your quantity. 2 sets of potatoes, 1 as thickening agent 1 as potatoes part . We never started with bacon just fat and onions and we never ever mixed halusky or pork into the gulas. As I said I enjoyed this vid but we never mix pork and another Slovakian true dish into a gulash dish. Halusky is Halusky and should stay perhaps away from goulash, that's a separate dish

Love it! I use my Aunt's recipe that i got from ym sister. My issue is that my loaf spreads to much and does not have that right "whirlwind" of poppy seed. Your's came out very nice but exploaded a bit on the sides. I watched another video and the women uses an ALuminum tray with high sides ( maybe 3" high)? to keep it contained. What are your thoughts?
