Leeds castle - what to know before you visit
Leeds Castle in Kent is reputedly the most beautiful castle in the world. An intriguing building with a rich history ready to explore on a site with lots to do besides exploring the building.
Greentipsgarden went to take a look at this beautiful site.
There is so much to see in one day. Parks to stroll through. Large grass areas for the kids to run around on or for the parents to enjoy a picnic. There are gardens to explore, suntraps to bake in, lakes to sooth the soul, museums to browse and adventure golf to enjoy. There are also facilities on site to buy hot and cold food and drink. A great day out that all the family will enjoy. Not only that, but you'll want to come back again.

    Thanks so much! We've had a lot of rain here in Georgia. A couple weeks ago we had tons of beautiful blooming pink roses on two bushes....lots of rain, and now both bushes are predominantly brown 😢 (Side note: We recently also put down black mulch (Vigoral brand). It's encouraging you're saying it's due to rain and not disease, and that's what I'm hoping for...I notice you're just plucking off the bad flowers and not cutting the stems....Any help would be appreciated!

      Why? they reseed themselves, but the seeds are hard, score them and soak them in water before planting. Do it in pots if you want to be more precise than tossing them on the ground and waiting for nature to take over. If you've got one wild one, you should get more. The ones I've bought in garden stores have never reseeded, it's possible the seeds are sterile...lots of information on the internet, plants are genetically altered so seeds from that plant are useless....all about the money, selling seeds. I have many wild lupin, none are perennials. Garden stores label them as such, but they're not - at least, not where I live, location might make a difference.

    I have a lovely lupin which I bought in Asda, so not very expensive. It has three different shades of pink flowers so I suspect there were three seedlings in the pot. The most amazing thing is that the slugs do not seem to like it. It did have a white friend which did not survive the winter, and a purple/blue one which is ok. So I really want to try and propagate the pink ones, firstly to separate out the colours but also to try for more slug resistant plants.

    Suppose it may depend when cuttings are taken though I’ve grown successfully without using plastic bag. Have today taken many cuttings from the end of very long woody stems which appear to be dying back because of heat we have had in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. Quite different to how I have taken cuttings before so hope this may be successful 🙏

    This was very helpful. Can I thin and pinch out the same plant. I have a Sam Hopkins with multiple stems. They're a but leggy as they've been overshadowed by early summer plants which I've cut back now. I've also thinned to about six stems and cut two of them back. So now it will have full light and hopefully more sturdy.

    • @GreenTipsGarden
      @GreenTipsGarden 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a bit of an art. Why not do a mini trial. Two pots and two different methods. The problem is the plants have no roots and until they form the goal is to make sure they don't dry out but also that they don't rot off because it's too humid/wet. Hence it being a skill, but once you've mastered it you'll have free plants for life

    • @GreenTipsGarden
      @GreenTipsGarden 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, no you would normally do it earlier in the season. If you pinch out now you'll get smaller and more flowers later in the season. But since they are already so close to flowering if just leave them and enjoy what you have. Some Dahlia's are naturally short and bushy. This method is especially effective on the large flowered upright varieties

    According to my readings, clay pot edges are porous and allow O2 access to the roots…you are successful with plastic. By leaning on the container edge, perhaps the O2 is able to get to the roots anyway.

    what was the climber called?

  • @jhansi1402
    @jhansi1402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason we keep the cuttings to the edges is to get some warmth and relatively moist /dry compost towards the sides of the pot than the centre. So ideal conditions for root growth basically, and secondly it encourages rapid secondary roots growth as they hit the plastic more quickly being to the edge, and branch off to produce more secondary and tertiary roots. Hope this helps.
