so… i have a lot to say. i’ve been wanting to make another melendaire edit for awhile now, but decided to push it back bc of limlendez. the writers did us dirty in season 2, and i was really hoping for some good content in season 3-which we did receive. their journey from attending/resident to friends was so heartwarming to see. claire was spiraling and forming bad habits, and neil was able to help her grieve her mother in a healthier way. it was well-written and wonderfully executed. the looks, the things that were said, and the little “platonic” dates they would go on were all perfect, and really gave me so much hope that melendaire would be endgame. while i was starting to lose interest in the other aspects of the show, neil and claire were the one constant that kept me tuning in every monday. they were my escape from reality for 3 years, and i can’t even tell you how many times they’ve helped me through some of my worst moments. i was completely and utterly devastated after watching the season finale, as i’m sure all of you are. i think what made it more heartbreaking was the fact that his storyline was cut short, and he was not given a proper send-off. it was too fast-paced, and didn’t make a lick of sense. sure, we got what we wanted at the end of the day, but neil absolutely did not have to die after they exchanged their i love you’s. it’s disrespectful to neil, it’s disrespectful to nick, and it’s especially disrespectful to claire. if you’re even watching this edit right now, i applaud you for your bravery bc it was extremely difficult for me to finish. i’ve had a lot of ships in the past-too many to even count-but this one has always held a special place in my heart. i have never been this emotionally attached to two fictional characters in my life, and i’ve never been this affected by a fictional death either. it’s painful and gut-wrenching, and i’m sure it’ll take me a long time to move on, but i will eventually. we’re all gonna be okay. ❤️ although neil is gone, melendaire will live on forever in our minds. i can see them on that little island in thailand right now, reading moby dick and falling even more in love. while i’ve decided to say goodbye to this show, i will never not appreciate nick and antonia’s phenomenal portrayals, as well as their extraordinary on-screen chemistry. despite my broken heart, i adored every single moment we got over the years, and i will never forget them.
p.s. while it is a pipe dream, and the chances of this happening are very low, please sign the petition below to #BringBackMelendez if you haven’t already. maybe all of this backlash will make shore and the writers realize just how big of a mistake they made, or they will be forced to bring him back. either way, we want neil alive, and melendaire to get their happy ending. if not, i hope shore is filled with regret when tgd inevitably gets cancelled. i will not be watching season 4, and i know a lot of you won’t be either.

Honestly, I’m surprised they went the Limendez route instead of focusing on Melendaire sooner. There was always an obvious attraction between the two, and you can tell based on their individual interactions. Melendez was fond of Claire the most out of everyone and would always talk up her potential. I guess they had to remove the “admiration of mentor affection” and power struggle dynamic to put them on more equal terms like they were in season three, but still, I feel like Limendez came out of no where. I wouldn’t have minded a fling that tried to turn serious but failed, but they made their relationship such a big deal, only for it to fail.
I wanted to get married and start a family. His death is the only fictional death that has hurt me deeply even more than the death of severus snape.

The way that he looks at her is simply superb.
I know abruptly killing him off was one of the worst decisions but the way they had a build up, a dance scene, eye contacts, jealousy, epiphany that they actually loved each other, clicked with each other, was perfect. Even the closure. Claire's imagination of him, said their story was cut short, but she'll have an amazing life ahead. That means she has regrets but is ready to move on. She also stopped visiting his grave. she knew she didnt need to do that to feel like neil was important to her, she got a good look at his face before he died. She'll move on, but remember him forever.

#BringBackMelendez.. Melendez, who brought so many from the mouth of death, can't survive an internal injury.. It's silly in storytelling. Something went supremely wrong with the writers. Not done... A beautiful character deserves much more.
