My old Mk1 mate, Schakal, does those expansion tanks on eBay. Did you get it off him? They changed the coolant name!? Christ. Confusing.
@@BarneyWobba yeah, massively confusing! Yeah prob was schakal I got it off. I've had a couple of them over the years
I've done so many oil changes on Williams's over the years. The oil filler caps get tight as fook! With the standard intake manifold, access is so tight in that with that F7R in the tiny engine bay. Much easier with ITB's. Can I guess the alloys are Prima Racing? Is it a standard Willy? With the McRae, make sure the rear diff is good. Unless you've driven one with a good rear diff it can be hard to tell if there is any damage to it (unless it starts jumping/making noises or the rear suspension setup). I smacked the rear offside wheel of my old McRae into a curb on a high speed corner after I got the rear end out and it wasn't right after that. Looking back I should have checked the diff for metal fragments in the oil and the rear beam etc for damage. Mine may have just been a bent rear rod though, but I knew very little about cars back then. I guess you've not taken the side sill plastics off yet? Usually some nasty surprises there...and I think you've got a bit of a hole on the drivers side rear! I'd probably get it all refurbished and do the tank/pump, then put the rear beam on and piece by piece fit the parts as you go. That way you reduce the chance of damage to the new powdercoat and it is just less strain on your arms/back. It is quicker to do the whole lot in one go off the car, rally-stage style but are you in that much of a hurry? Nah.
@@BarneyWobba yeah I've done many a change of oil on my wiliams too and they are a massive pain in the ass where the filter is! The wheels are genuine speedline ones. There's a intro video to my williams here on the channel, it's worth a look as it explains lots about my car. The engine is 100% standard, only mods are ones I can remove easily and all within a day. The impreza is, or was 100% standard when i got it. The engine has never been messed with and I'm not planning on doing too much. Try again to keep it OEM+ like the williams and all mods will be removable within a day or two if need be. I'll always keep all the standard parts too for all my cars. The diff seemed all good before I took it apart, hopefully it goes back together alright. Yeah I'm expecting a few rusty bits under the side skirts. I'm thinking of running it without the skirts anyhow to give it more of the early grp a rally car look. I'll be refurbishing the tank and fitting a new fuel pump, that's in the plans. I just want it tidy under there, I'll never be concours as I use my cars. Just usable mint as I like to describe them lol. Cheers for all the positive comments matey. Much appreciated 👍
Not sure if you are going to tune this up much but I remember using a non-genuine driveshaft in the Williams after I swapped in a high compression engine with ITB's and fairly wild cams (222 hp) and I sheared the same driveshaft on a launch, destroyed the Gripper diff I had fitted too (only found out after a guy bought the gearbox many moons later). Back in the days before I knew how to repair cars, that scratch would have pissed me off for weeks! A good touch up will sort it :)
@@BarneyWobba nah, the williams will stay original engine wise. Yeah the scratch massively annoyed me. But the car will eventually be resprayed anyhow to make it nice.
I had one back in late 1995. N246 VCF, I think it was no.76. I absolutely loved mine. The handling pack from Prodrive was amazing and the 240 odd bhp performace pack was great too. Also regards the underseal, yes UK cars were given it but JDM cars were not. I was told that the JDM ones didn't have any but perhaps they did...or only the RA models had none as many were used as rally cars. I see you have the oldschool 17" Speedlines and not the tiny Safari's :D Good choice! I also just spotted you have a Williams as well! I sold my W1 a few months ago, but I might buy it back. Loved that car too! No. 0217. I love my Mk1 Clio's, though currently I have a Clio M4 220 Trophy, which is a seriously underrated car.
Ahhh i'll check see if it is still alive on the owners club! I loved blasting about in this in 2019/2020 until the MOT ran out. Can't wait ot get it back on the road!

Thank you! Yeah, it might not be up to some project standards, but I always like to make things the best I can. And I genuinely enjoy trying to get things restored back to how they should be. Yes, I may do a few mods along the way, but I always try to be sympathetic towards the originality of the car. Glad you are enjoying the journey! I'll have another video uploaded this weekend.
Pleasure to watch someone who really cares not only about keeping what are now elderly cars on the road but also takes the time to get the car as stock as possible. Keep up the good work.

I've pretty much got another video to upload on the Clio Maxim, but Christmas activities has stopped finishing it and getting it uploaded! I just want to end up with a very tidy Clio Maxim that I can use all year round, but make sure it stays in tip top condition.
Hi Duncan, I really appreciate your honest feedback. It's always a pleasure to see a Mk1 Clio correctly dressed. I’ve sold hundreds of these over the years. Although, I think future orders ought to contain a positioning template. Would you consider reviewing them again in 2025? Richard
Hi Northy, no problem at all. I'd rather be fully honest and would say if I wasn't impressed or didn't like something. The template idea is a very good one, bit like Jason Mather's Williams decals. I still think many of the Renault ELF stickers were put on where ever in that area, no specific location. Just bottom left of the rear screen lol. Happy to do another review no worries 👍

just to start it's not a mark 1
It's a Mk1 phase 3 Clio. Then they moved onto the mk2 which is a completely different shape.
@ddmdrive mark 1 had mettle wings different bonnet bumper quarter panel boot head lights
Why do people comment who clearly don't have a clue, 100% a mark 1 phase 3 Clio, 15 seconds on Google would confirm this.

I'm planning on coming to the Festival of the Unexceptional! I've never been, and thought this would be a great car to take. Regards lowering, it'll be staying this height for while yet don't worry. Plenty of other things to do first to get it to how I want 👍
I was a 19 yr old Renault salesman when these came out. I got a Clio base model special edition as my company car, loved the RSI, it was my favourite even over the 16v as the 8V was much torquier low down but as the new guy I’d never get an RSI so I remember wanting the Maxim so much when it launched as it was so close to the RSI. Really enjoyed the video.

@ it was one of the special editions based on the RN so super basic. It may of been the Versailles but can’t remember if I’m honest. I was also there when they had the Clio with the five speed manual but no clutch pedal which was odd but fun although the clutches were failing after a couple of thousand miles so they soon binned that idea. I was there about 18 months then went over to Ford but I still remember those new Renaults having the best new car smell ever.
@@bencalvy1542 fantastic! The base spec clios were, shall we say, basic! I loved all the editions they did. 80s and 90s cars were great with random special editions etc. Great times! Have you seen my other videos on the channel? I have a williams 1 too.

What a fantastic save. I still cannot believe how small these cars are compared to the behemoths ruining the local tarmac. Be great to follow how you bring this straight motor back to original. I do, however, wish you luck getting parts- must be a nightmare.

I've got a my99 Ra, I've stripped the underbody and chassis, and had everything stripped, powder coated and zinc plated. It's a labour of love thats for sure. I'll be keeping a keen eye on your progress mate. Well done

as said mate, imo build back up on the car in stages, less likely to scratch anything and can line everything up the chassis then too. SEND IT

That Uno Turbo is an extremely rare car, very 1st model & on a B reg wow very rare.
Yeah, very early car. Wouldn't be surprised if its a press car from back in the day.
I believe it is a press car, iv had more than x4 myself & still have 1 today but B reg wow. Original 1299cc version & rare colour too, great little cars & anyone who knows them had 1 always remembers how much fun they had. Fetching more now than new back in the day!!! But look @the Rs500 values now these classics really have gone wild.

When I was in early secondary school I used to walk past one of these, series mcrae, gold wheels etc... not just a boggo turbo 2k. Can still see it in my mind now it left such an impression. Loving it Dunc.

Stunning car mate. I've watched all your videos so far so keep them coming. I owned a Williams 2 in the late 90s and p/x'd it at a Honda dealer against a brand new DC2 Integra Type R. I've had many a car since inc Cosworths, Evos, M3s Focus Rs etc and it's the only car I've ever regretted selling. I'd own another in a heartbeat 💙

@@ddmdrive No probe mate it's great content much better than all the youtubers tuning Golf R's and BMW M140's to 600bhp. With regards the Escort Cosworth I had a big turbo in malled green, I traded it for £16500 back in 2003 with 55k on clock and bought a Mk1 Focus Rs 🤦♂️
If you are planning on dropping the oil & filter again I recommend fitting a Champion F136 oil filter. Gives you the same oil pressure as the old OEM filters.
