2017 Ford F-150 Door Latch Replacement - Fix For Frozen Door Latch
This video shows how to replace the door latch assembly on a 2017 Ford F-150 drivers-side front door. This is also a fix for the frozen door latch issue on this truck, where a door is opened and the latch will not go into the closed position. This issue happens in sub-freezing temperatures. The new part has a strong spring added to it to return the latch to the proper position.
Kudos to Rain City Wrench www.youtube.com/@raincitywrench117 who posted the video detailing this fix. Ford has had fixes for this that involved adding caulking, foam, and grease to certain areas, but that seems to have only been a bandaid. I created this video to give a more detailed explanation of the install process. Here is a link to the video that got me pointed in this direction if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/zjHX5sWcSYY/w-d-xo.html
Make sure you are using the correct updated Ford part numbers, otherwise you won't be getting the improved part. Also please note that the parts that came up in the Amazon search as of 11/5/2024 did NOT appear to be the updated part, so I'd recommend not buying those.

Its no wonder Ford doesn't want to fix this for customers. All four of my 2016 doors have frozen over the years. Can't imagine doing this on all 4 doors. Thanks for the insight. This other video is far simpler replacing the actuator instead of the latch. I guess I'm confused as this what the actual fix is? th-cam.com/video/zjHX5sWcSYY/w-d-xo.html

The actual fix is replacing the latch with an updated part that has heavier springs that pull the latch closed when there is ice from condensation on the cable. The actuator is the electronic part that locks and unlocks the door when you hit the button on the fob or the door. Replacing that part will not fix the freeze issue. Only replacing the actual latch with the updated part will fix the issue. I have gotten to test the new latch assembly on my two front doors this winter with some temps in the teens and so far no issues. I know this is a lot of work for all 4 doors, but it's really the only way to permanently fix the issue. That being said, I still need to do this on my back doors, but I don't use them as much on a daily basis so I'm putting that off for now.
