Hi! How can i get one for my W140 1995? (S320)
I think Rick should start by replacing the totally corroded battery terminal! Probably the other is just as bad and a sign of a battery that is spewing out battery acid fumes. ola , MB freak since 1961.
1991 300SL 16 pin socket. socket 8 has 10 blink & 17 blink code i believe the 17 is normal crank sensor to always return and socket 6 has 2 blink 9 blink errors the car will only crank on cold start will only start if i put fuel in bowl then bogs down until engine gets real warm any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
My pin #16 has no liner so can I just take the probe and make contact with the + battery post for power to the reader?

On my 1995 mbz c280 has no codes no ce light but won't pass smog , it had pending codes htr , 029 , air , any help ?
Does anyone know which fuse powers the Obd1 reader?
There is no fuse. Black 1 ground, 16 red power and yellow into circuit to be tested. #16 red power is direct to the 12v. Rick
Thanks pal...I was talking about the OBD1 reader under the hood of the car (W124, 1990) that is getting no power. I see what you are saying. Do you still sell your readers?
I've read that in order to test certain ports the engine needs to be running (Port 8 in the 16 pin configuration for instance) in order to obtain the correct trouble code. Do you have any insight on this?
Never heard that. Diag port just needs 12v to retrieve stored codes. AC sometimes requires engine running but most often the AC is diagnosed with a series of button pushes on the dashboard. I have never done that. Looks confusing as hell. It's in my code file which is free on my site. Rick
@RickDean I really appreciate your response. I'm working on a 1991 500SL with the 16 terminal interface. When I test port 8 (Dis) I'm getting code 17 which indicates Crankshaft Position Sensor. I was doing some Googling and I found several threads where people had the same code, replaced the CPS and it didn't fix the problem and the code remained. Everything I read says to read the codes with the key on and engine off but a man who seemed to be very knowledgeable on the subject said that certain ports (in this case #8) require the vehicle to be running. He said every car will throw a 17 code with the engine off because it's designed to check running. I just want to make sure I'm doing it the appropriate way before replacing the CPS. I apologize for the novel but you seem like the Mercedes-Benz Oracle and I will trust whatever you say unequivocally. Thanks! ~Mark

do you know anything about reprogramming the ecm I had wrecked my 94 500 sl we had bought a parts car a92 sl500 so my husband decided to make parts car my driver unfortunately the ignition and the trunk ignition was damaged beyond use so he swapped ignition from 94 to 92 the car turs over but wont start ughhhh

Hey this is Rick. Codes are not engine spcific. Just find the 124 cars and the appropriate socket. 8,16 or 32.

I don't have no other way of contacting you at this moment but we are trying to find the banana plug that you speak up in the comments above and there's nothing on my car that even resembles such a thing. there's no button anywhere my car was delivered to a lady in Lucerne Switzerland. It is an AMG sportline cabriolet. It also has the five-speed transmission of that era. My problem is the idle runs a little bit high sporadically and there's no acceleration unless I floor the accelerator then it shifts when I let off the acceleration?!
Sounds like my 300e years ago. So frustrating and only when I mashed the accelerator to the floor did it take off. It was my #2 coil. Simple replacement and runs like a champ now. To quickly pinpoint the problem you need an Obd1 code reader. I sell them on my website. www.mercedescodereader.com or on Ebay. Also on my site, there are diagrams of the sockets. Also in my files page the Obd1 Fault code file is free to download. Raise the hood and on the passenger side near the battery, you will find a rectangle socket with either 16 holes or a round socket with 38 holes. The 38 socket usually has a round screw-off cap. If you are in Europe there is a seller on Ebay that makes a reader similar to mine. I quit shipping overseas after many packages were lost or undelivered last year. Or just make a code reader in 20 minutes for about $5 in parts. Drawing is also on my website on the files page. It's just 3 wires soldered to an LED and a pushbutton. Rick
Excuse me but I have a 1994 E320 that was built in mid-93 and my impulse code reader does not have a button on it to press. So how do I initiate the system to count?
In the USA only California cars had the button.

Hello. I have a 1993 190e 2.6 and the headlights have stopped working suddenly and for some reason the high beam indicator lamp now comes on instead of my headlights, even though the high beam switch [combination switch] is not being engaged. My running lights and fog lamps still work fine, but no headlights. All of my fuses are fine. Any ideas?

when I press that button next to LED light, there is NO light turn ON what so ever.....what needed to replace?? smog check failed me because NO check engine lights...lol.
Those California cars are a mess when it comes to code reading.
on my W124 94'E320....there is "NO" check engine light comes on after you turn the key to ready for start engine, NO check engine light before or after you start engine ...what so ever...anyone had this issue?

Yes. Not all of the ports will have connection wiring. Watch the video and it shows it. Rick

Use battery positive. Same thing.
@@RickDean I have, and when I press the button the light comes on after releasing no flashing happens
@@george-louis6998 - No flash or one flash indicates there in no code stored by the DCM. Which is a good thing. I'm assuming you are putting Red to positive and black to a ground and the yellow into the other ports. Rick
@@RickDean thank you for your reply, I'm putting positive on battery positive, negative on number 1 of the 16 pin connector. And the test wire on number 6 or 3 to test. I got a very faint light after the 2 seconds. Or no light.

I have a Mercedes W126 560 SEL and I have the SRS and ASR lights on, I have looked for the implus counter unit and I have noted it does not have lights. How can I check the code for this model. The car is 1989 model. I really need to rest the two warning lights. Your help and assistance is appreciated..

@@RickDean Thank you for your help. I have been able to clear the SRS fault and the light has gone off. on the ASR I have noted there is not any way to test using the implus counter. Any help on this will be appreciated.
@@RickDean i have noticed the SRS light still come back on and i have noted when the ideal speed is high it is off once the ideal speed drops it come back on. I have noted the fault code that keeps coming back is 9 and 10. What do you suggest I do? On another note i have not been able to clear ASR warning lights. Regards Anwar
Some faulty part/system is turning on the light and being 1989 isn't seen or stored by the OBD1 code system. You should get with an experienced Mercedes mechanic. Or do as I did......sell the car. I will never own another Mercedes and glad my headaches are gone.
