This will make you want a Baritone Fan Fret! #32 Empire 514 Demo - JKM Guitars

Baritones sit between a guitar and a bass guitar, with an extended scale length, usually 27" compared to a guitars 25.5", and with lower tuning with B being standard. This guitar goes a little further, by incorporating a fan fret scale length, of 28" for the bass and 27" for the treble, the guitar can be tun...

Top notch sir. I enjoy your builds. The best looking and SOUNDING guitars. Very inspiring and I love your techniques. I put you at the top of the list as BEST guitar builders I've seen.
just so seay to watch and enjoy the 36 mins of fantasy. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Why do I see guitar luthiers use yellow glue and violin/cello makers sticking with traditional hide glue? Hide is so much easier to repair later on .
Both hide glue and yellow/tiebond can be removed with heat and moisture quite easily. I think hide glue can be heated in a way where the original glue can become sticky enough to re-attach a piece while once titebond sets and needs replaced you would have to remove the original glue. I have used hide glue in the past, but the prep needed and the short open time before it jellies makes it a little more impractical to use in comparison
I use hide for the acoustically active joints. Bridges, braces, and plate joining. It’s not that hard to use after you get used to it.
I am speaking from Bangladesh, brother. I want to make a guitar similar to this one. How can I contact you ?
Hi there, just contact me via email, all the details are on my website at jkmguitars.com Thanks!
Great video! Very interesting to learn these techniques. Do you find the fibers from the paper towel get pulled onto the guitar causing issues or setbacks in the finishing process?
I don't usually find this happening, because by the time the majority of the epoxy is wiped away, there's only really a very light film over the body and the rest is in the pores. Once I've removed a lot of the 'wetness' from the surface, I would go over with a dry paper towel just to remove any left over fluff. If I find any problems once the epoxy has cured, they can be sanded away easily with fine sandpaper.
Great video beginning to end! Thanks for no background music or talk. Visual was plenty! Love the tap tone of the back! Your headstock is excellent, logo excellent and heluva bridge! Why did it get returned??
Thanks very much! It just didn't suit the player that's all, but now that it has been refinished I feel its even improved on the original sound, so hopefully I will have a new demo of it early in the new year
QUE BELLA GUITARRA Y EL SONIDO ESPECTACULAR MUY AFINADA OJALA TUVIERA DINERO Y COMPRAR UNA IGUAL SOY DE VENEZUELA
There is something about the sound that is different. Does it make sense if I say that the voice on this sounds "sturdy"? I don't mean loud when I say that, it just sounds stout, in a way. I like it for sure. Beautiful tone. I would love to hear a good recording outside of TH-cam.
I am not sure that I have ever seen solid kerfing and that extended style of bracing before. What's the thought process there?
The solid kerfing adds rigidity to the whole rim of the guitar, making the sides nearly immovable. This means you can be more daring with how light you make the top as the perimeter is supported so well. I've heard it described like a diving board, the top being the board and the diving board base being the sides, the stronger the base, the more the energy of your motions remain on the board, a badly supported base would mean the boards motions would dissipate too easily. And as for the bracing, it serves two purposes, making the soundboard more symmetrical allows more even response from the bass or treble strings without favouring one or the other, and their position behind the bridge would help prevent the guitar from bellying up over time. The idea was a mix of the standard x brace and classical guitar style bracing.
@@JKM_Guitars wow. That is really insightful stuff. Thanks so much for even taking the time to respond so thoughtfully. I love the sound you're producing--even over compressed YT vids.
The best guitar build i ever saw
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
Great build. Absolutely love some of your techniques. You are a very talented builder sir.
Kind of you to say, thank you!
Translated with google, so sorry if it doesn't make sence!
Beautiful
What Router / Workstation setup is this? I've never seen it before. Did you use this to cut your fret slots? Amazing!
Its called a Shaper Origin, it works much like a CNC machine but its hand operated (so I cant just leave it to do all the work for me!). I use it mainly for making fingerboards, bridges, head veneers and any jigs or moulds
I think you have solved the problem I've had on my last guitars with the epoxy filler. I had been applying the epoxy in what I thought was thin coats but always sanding through in one place or another, requiring more touch up. Using a towel to remove the excess was genius, and I haven't seen anyone else do this. Following up with a very fine grit dry paper finishes out the process. This alone will save me gobs of time. Thanks Jake!
Glad it could help, there's nothing worse than having to sand through blobs of epoxy, its a total nightmare!
sounds like mm.. not so good.. why?
maybe your phone audio
Good job. I like the bridge design. It's the kind that doesn't pierce the soundboard.
Wow! I've watched s bunch of these builds but never saw things like the solid back and top gluing surfaces; side braces; x and fan bracing on the top. I'd bet there's no belly bulge on this one in the future. Finish on the inside? Love the no bridge pins and the straight pull on the strings at theheadstock. Antonio would be impressed; exquisite!
Thanks very much! It's all in the details when it comes to trying to get the most out of an instrument
Magnífico. The minutes where you shape the braces are priceless.
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant as always, Jake.
Thanks man, always on the chase for perfection! 😂
Excellent!! Love the bracing pattern, tap toning was very nice. You have a really good headstock design, that’s tough to get right! Very nice bridge as well. I love the streak fretboard. A little touch that makes every build totally unique. Sounds good, balanced. Not too bright or bassy. Top shelf, sir.
Thanks very much, the headstock took a lot of different designs before I settled on this one, and you're right it was the hardest part to get right!
That’s the bridge I would like on my guitar Jake. Ray
Can't get any better than a guitar build with a cute pup!!
Guitar + puppy = good time
That's a very nice guitar excellent work.
Thanks a lot!
Stop using Bella for views
Never!! 😉
Fantastic build! Alot of people don't realize that many Luthiers are great musicians.
Incredible work!
Thank you, I'm glad you think so!
Маэстро!!!=)))👻👻👻
amazing craftsmanship. Congratulations
Thank you very much!
Looks beautiful 😊 What is it that you're spraying on the inner surfaces if I might ask?
The internal spray is shellac, to help seal the internal of the guitar to prevent any effects of changing humidity
Top notch work man, sounds great! Lovely open tone and resonance.
Amazing, beautiful guitar bro 👏🏼
Thanks very much!
Beautiful ringing sounds on that rosewood. Always wondered why guitar insides aren't sealed, seems like it would help with stability.
I’ve seen some do it. It definitely would help.
It's to help prevent against changes in humidity. You never know where the guitar will end up, so it's better to be safe than sorry!
awesome
Más delgado el diapasón ❤
Wow what a great , refreshing interview and discussion. As Judy points out there is opposition to even rational discourse on this subject. Sound Money is foundational to a sound capitalistic economy for sure. Opposition to this axiomatic truth is the radical irrational view.
Thanks you for the kind words! I'm sure one day you will have one 😉
Thanks you for the kind words, every guitar is built with a lot of care and attention to make it as good as I possibly can!
Fantastic to see this great guitar finally finished and played, sounds great, beautiful song 👍🏻
Doesnt it hurt to send them off? Id be having a house full of guitars and poor af... 😂
It's sad to see some go, but receiving a paid invoice sure does take the edge off 😂
So cute! 😍
What a beautiful Guitar. The sound was so crisp. Amazing. Thank you for sharing your skills with the rest of us.
Glad you liked it!
Amazing!!🎃🎃💀💀👻👻
Thanks!
the only thing i don't like is the bridge with no pins style.
Such a beautiful instrument.
What kind of wood do you use?
On this guitar is Sinker Redwood and Koa, but I use a whole range of woods for different instruments for either different sounds or different looks
@@JKM_Guitars I like the pattern. But not in my country there is that kind of wood
This lovely fella built my guitar. What a treat it was to work with Jake on D and D in Belfast. A true gent and magnificent craftsman.
Thanks very much Paul, I hope you and the guitar have been keeping well!
Love it!
I'm already looking forward to arguing about which tonewood is the spookiest.
My money is on either Bloodwood, or Snakewood for sure!
