How to use GREASE instead of volume spacers to make a more progressive fork
มุมมอง 4393 ปีที่แล้ว
I’m leaving this video up so that people who are curious about making their rockshox recon fork more progressive with grease can find a definitive answer about whether it’s a good idea. It’s not. The grease that you put in will eventually make its way into your negative air chamber and cause deteriorated fork performance or damage.

    Thanks for this video. I did a version of this on my PNW coast suspension dropper. On that post there are 6 much smaller brass keys. I had to cut a small zip tie (~10 cm) lengthwise so it was ~1.5mm wide. I only wanted to shorten travel by 1 cm so I cut them into 1 cm sections. A little tricky to insert and get everything sorted but it's working perfectly, reduced travel by 1 cm!

    • @lukeroberts5885
      @lukeroberts5885 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The spacers don't hold any weight, just limit the travel. The weight is still supported by the oil within the post mechanism. Here's a good visual of how a dropper post works. th-cam.com/video/0Bg2E8YgF-w/w-d-xo.html In essence, the spacers are doing the same thing as lowering the post by whatever height they are, without having to do that every time you put the post up.

    Get an Odyssey gyro and a London Mod so you have twin cables. Replace standard rolled metal springs with CNC squared ones cut from a solid block. And maybe upgrade the brake pads (with a diacompe fiesta kit if your'e running AD996 Hombres) and throw some titanium bolts in there too. But deffo go for a twin-pull system rather than a single pull one as featured here. Plus gyros are just better than having some hipster crap. Peace

I am trying to troubleshoot a trans x 100 mm dropper that came on a bike I purchased, the post is very spongy when you sit on it moving two or three inches, when I removed from bike I noticed that you cannot manually flick it and make it rise, and it will never lock into a lower position, any idea what may be going on before I attempt to disassemble this thing? I've just done this mod on my WTP Audio 22, works great. I found that looping the cable around the seat tube made the v brake noodle rub against the tyre so routed it straight to the brake. Could be I need to take up the slack a bit more to make it work around the seat tube, I'll try it out and see if it works. Thanks again 😀

    I found this out a while ago. The acolyte derailleur does shift smoother, and that is mostly do to the fact that the "clutch" it has is actually not a clutch. It essentially just as a much larger and stiffer tension spring. The button that turns the clutch on actually just increases the tension on the spring. Now I do worry about getting chain slap on really rough trails, so I only I don't recommend this setup for much more than xc trails.
