It would start easily with a hand crank as the starter is too slow.

Age of an engine makes no difference if it has great compression great spark and a great fuel supply in the right amount it's going to fire up quickly without all of that cranking cranking and cranking and cranking, the engine certainly has a problem. What if it did not have an electric starter what would you do then?

So what was the problem? Not getting enough gas? When I got my T I had a hard time starting it and I was cranking it. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Anyway now it starts easy but you have to choke it heavy for the first couple of revs. Once you figure it out they will run even when they shouldn’t.

That starter motor must have been smoking, (ruined) a model T should only take half a revolution to start, if it is primed properly. If it doesn’t some thing isn’t right. (Fouled plugs, timing wrong, stuck valve, bad coils)

Just got on here, so someone else might have corrected you. Model ts were built from 1909 thru 1927. Model As from 28 thru 31. Havin g started model Ts for about 45 years and own 13, I would suggest checking for manifold leaks, then clean and oil timer an d always adjust it to proper distance when spark lever is up and advance when first starting. Doesn't sound like that is being done.
