JAYCO CROSSTRAK AFTER 10,000KLMS
After 10,000 kilometres, 90% on rough country bitumen / dirt roads, bush tracks, state forest trails and washed out tracks has the Crosstrak held up.
Well yes it has had problems but all minor, some issues Jayco know about but refuse to pull there head out of the sand and fix the issues like poor build quality, and lack of / no quality control. I'm referring to the old striped out screws in the panelling from untrained staff that can not use a screw gun correctly. To drilling 3 to 4 holes until they get it aligned instead of measuring once (yes amazing what you find behind hinges and slides). They forget to use sealant on most joints allowing dust in / water leaks etc etc etc. But I am on my 3rd Jayco and know what to expect so when I purchased this one I went right over it myself and corrected these issues. I still have some things I still need to fix but this van has been going really well so far.
Note all the storage containers and heavy duty Tuff Cases are all from Bunnings.
This van also had extra 100 A/H battery and a larger solar panel installed before delivery but it still needs more for true off grid. I don't use hard wired inverters as I have a 2000Watt Ecoflow power bank. Just running a Dometic fridge freezer is about 4 to 4.5 amps when running, 2 to 3 days of cloud cover the panel puts in 0 to maybe 3 amps if your lucky so in no time your power is running out and I have had it shut off (protection mode) during wet weather over a few days.
The power system is very sub standard to be labelled as an off grid van.
My opinion anyway.
The kitchen sink still air locks just like my Journey Outback did, again due to piss poor design that I will be fixing soon. It has too many restrictions in the drain line, the design engineer needs to go back to school and learn basic hydraulic flow principals. The water fill check valves are cheap Chinese plastic rubbish that last all of 3 to 4 tank fills and self destruct. I changed these to a good quality Australian made brass componentry and the tanks fill way faster than previously.
I recently checked out the new Crosstrak's and must say that I don't think they should be called a Crosstrak. They no longer have the outside Kitchen, no longer make the 13 ft model. It looks like they all have internal ensuite and kitchen, optional slide out Dometic burners. So they just seem to be like another small caravan. The drawbar and GVM has crept up considerably by doing this. If I was looking for a Crosstrak this year, I would have gone to other manufacturers with low drawbar weights and GVM. There are many other brands making similar designs with the external shower and side door kitchen that I have seen in my travels and some are very well made (Ezytrail, Austrack, Drifta, Star Vision to name a few). And still narrow width, I think Jayco has lost the plot by going away from this original design as that's why it was so popular.
Again My Opinion.

Check this place out if your ever driving through Benaraby Qld. Great for motorhomes and caravans large or small. If you just want to stay the night or a few days you can also rent the cabins. They have single room and family room cabins available. Go fishing straight off the banks in the park or you can put your boat / kayak in and take off for the day. They also have a swimming pool at the ba...

I also have the link for Voodoo Mountain Gourmet Preserves. www.voodoomountainpreserves.com/ My ideas have changed since the accident no more rack for the Adventure Bike. That's fine ...

I have decided to trade the Jayco Journey 19-2 and scale back to this unit. Many ideas for this van and I will still be full time living in this. It is more practical being by myself and the size allows this to go many more areas I would not be able to get the Journey into.

I was going to spend the weekend out here but got cut short after I rescued an injured Kookaburra out near Collinsville. I ended up ringing Whitsundays Animal Rescue and they found someone in Walkerston to take care of it. animalrescuewhitsunday Always important to have the location / gps coordinates when you pick up wildlife so it can be released back in the same location. This is the first video I have re-edited from my original channel. Since then I have been coming back to this area and camp here often. Its not far from the township of Nebo if you need supplies, there are toilets and water at this camp ground. Fires are permitted but play it safe as it does get fairly windy around here and it is very dry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Britton,_Queensland
