National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Woodworking Art
My favorite Christmas movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation so it made sense to create a woodworking project inspired by the movie. This scroll saw project uses natural woods, with no paint or stain. I used bloodwood, bubinga, rosewood, walnut, blue mahoe, walnut, and holly.

The Easy Way to Cut Perfect Angles with a Scroll Saw
มุมมอง 3.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Cutting sharp angles with a scroll saw should be easy, but it can often result in dull edges or broken pieces. There’s a simple way to tackle cutting perfect angles. It requires you to cut your scroll saw lines in opposite directions. I explain this scroll sawing technique in the video and show a comparison between two different methods. This process works with any woodworking project or scroll...
Make a Cartoon Out of Wood | Halloween Woodworking Project

How do you make scroll saw artwork based on a scene from a cartoon? In my case, I captured a moment within It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and then turned that into a woodworking art piece. This was done by hand cutting each piece of wood at the scroll saw. If you are interested in other fall or winter woodworking projects, make sure to check out my other scroll saw videos! Stop Cutting on the Lines! |Scroll Saw Woodworking Tip
มุมมอง 3.9K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Most scroll saw woodworkers are using templates the wrong way. We’re supposed to put them on the workpiece and cut out the lines…NOPE! In this video, I explain that there are reasons for not cutting on the lines of a woodworking template. Some scroll saw projects require using an opposite technique of cutting off the line. Next time you’re in the workshop, try this scroll saw trick. It might be...
Making Deadpool Out of Wood | Marvel Woodworking Project
มุมมอง 14K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recreated Deadpool comic book art out of natural wood. No paint. No stain. Just amazingly cool, exotic wood species hand cut to form this picture of Deadpool. Each piece of wood was cut using a scroll saw. It took approximately six months to make due to the complexity of the project and tiny details necessary to craft the image. Scroll saw woodworking doesn’t have to be stuffy or involve maki...
Most Scroll Saw Woodworkers Don’t Know This Exists!
มุมมอง 8K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
There’s a wood species that most woodworkers don’t know exists and they are missing out! It’s one of the best woods to use for scroll saw projects. That wood is called blue mahoe. Its natural colors and properties make it a dream to use in scroll saw art. I especially like it for adding a touch of highlights to dark areas. The blue provides just enough color contrast. •• About Newton Makes Art•...
This Scroll Saw Template Trick Changes EVERYTHING!
มุมมอง 56K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
There is a different, maybe better way, to use templates in your scroll saw projects. Here’s what I do to get the best looking scroll saw art… Skip the painter’s tape. Skip using packing tape to stick your template to your board. Go with contact paper! Contact paper is the perfect thing for sticking a paper template to wood. It peels off the wood easily. It doesn’t leave a sticky mess. It’s cle...
Scroll Saw Realistic Faces and Skin Tones (No Staining!)
มุมมอง 14Kปีที่แล้ว
It’s pretty easy to make scroll saw art using contrasting wood colors, but what if you want a realistic picture? How do you make realistic faces, skin tones, and other artistic effects using wood? The key isn’t using wood species with contrasting colors. It’s about finding just the right variations of the same wood color. In this scroll saw project I wanted to make this insanely cool picture of...

You’ve never seen scroll sawing like this! I need a new Halloween themed scroll saw project. When I saw this picture, I knew it was perfect. It’s four jack-o-lanterns, all with creepy faces. There isn’t a lot of materials needed. I used pretty exotic woods, but it was all tiny offcuts. The pumpkins are osage hedge apple. The interior colors are tigerwood. I used lignum vitae for the pumpkin ste...

I hate spray adhesive. I use the full page package labels. I can print my design and just press it on. Using the contact paper with that should be a win. That said, I have to order them off Amazon because I can't find them local.

You can use ziploc bags full of sand instead of clamps. I use Elmer's GlueAll or Titebond Quick and Thick. The open time is short so just hand pressure for a couple of minutes is enough to keep it flat. Nice video.

I have a xerox printer connected to my computer, and I just print out what I want flip it over and iron it over the wood pull off the paper and the image I want is transferred to the wood, then all I have to do is cut it out . The print on the wood doesn't soak into the wood it just sticks to the surface and is easy to sand any unwanted print on the wood as it's just on the surface of the wood.

Great job, as usual! I don't know how you made the stars but when I saw them, they reminded me of a tip from Judy Gale Roberts that I thought I'd pass along. She designed a lot of intarsia animals and used holly to show light reflection in the eyes. She used a pencil sharpener and "sharpen" the wood (just as you would a pencil). By having the holly round and tapered, she could match any hole by just cutting the tapered end off, gluing it into the hole and sanding it flat to the eye.

I just want to know why you didn't test Flying Dutchman blades. I've been using them for nearly 20 years and feel they do a great job. I just recently got hold of some Pegas blades and for the difficulty I had in obtaining them (shipping to the Philippines), I didn't see enough of a benefit to move away from Flying Dutchman.

All that is a waste of time and money. I just trace my pattern with carbon paper. That way, I don't destroy my pattern and can use it again and again.

Why not another layer of contact paper instead of the packing tape? The video where you went from blue painters tape to contact paper you were acting like it was a pain to pull off all of the strips of tape. Seems like you are now doing the same thing with packing tape!!! BTW, Awesome work!
