Control Arm Replacement - 2007 - 2012 Lexus ES350
In this video I replace my drivers side rear lower control arm on my Lexus because it was rusted to the point where the person aligning my wheels could not adjust it anymore without having to put an excessive amount of heat on it. The part only cost $31, but it was a pain in the butt to replace because the first bolt not coming out without having to bend the metal and then the other bolt I had to cut off because it was rusted inside the bushing. Hopefully I can help you skip a couple steps I did and have you on your way faster! Thanks for watching!
Tools I used to do this (some I did not mention in the video):
WD-40 or similar
Floor jack
Jack stand
Car ramps
Torque wrench, ft-lbs
Ratchet wrench
3/4 socket for control arm bolt
Extension socket
Crescent wrench
Ratchet wrench
Pliers
Sawzall
Screw driver
Dremel with carbide bit or similar
Impact drill
NEW BOLT AND NUT PART NUMBERS:
Bolt: 90080-11672
Nut: 90080-17223
You can get these at most Toyota dealerships.

Awesome video! Our 2013 has 139,000 miles and we’ve had this issue for a long time now..dealer wanted $2,000 to fix it…after watching your video, I will begin by taking off the lower panels first and then work upwards to the motor..thanks a bunch!
if you purchase a oem sensor and it already has an id what is the step to install it on the computer
Your video gave me hope. My wife's Highlander had a flat in Dec. I fixed the flat and sent her to work. . Two days later the blinking Tire Pressure light came on. Did the Reset button a few dozens times and the light came back. I used copy of TechSteam (on laptop) and cable for scanning . The error code is 2143 Transmitter ID 3 error. (#3 matches the tire that ran over a nail). I do not think the 2" nail did any damage to the sensor. But the transmitter is not transmitting; either it is damaged or in sleep mode. I assume these sensors are woke up by centrifugal force. Now I will try it your way- rapidly deflate 6psi . Thank you.
@@buzzlightyear3715 yes, they’re woken up by centrifugal force and releasing air rapidly. Good luck!
Dealer wanted $1100
Thanks for the video. Made getting to the plugs on my 2012 RX-350 easy. Those panels came out quick.
The amount of times he said "I'm going to go ahead and..." is staggering. I think he said it twice in one sentence... Otherwise, Great video!!!
@@1jzMKIII dude, I know, bad habit. 😅
@@shanewazhere I am just giving you a hard time... You did a very good job explaining the process. The best out of all that I have seen. I felt bad after posting that knowing you made a great video. Keep doing what you do!
@ thanks! I appreciate! 🤙🏽
Do you make house calls? Good job.
@@Al-hf3iz haha where are you at?
You are awesome. I wouldn't have ordered the part if I didn't see your video first. It took me an hour to install and saved $1,000. Without the video it would have taken me several hours, and I probably would not have attempted it in the first place. Thanks.
Nice Video good details and removing the washer was nice I probably installed under
Great instruction. I went looking to buy the scanner but don't see any autel scanner for around $30! Did that Autel ts508wf really cost you just $30?
@@1079rlkk thanks! Sorry, I should have clarified better in the video. The Autel Sensor that goes in the tire is $30, but I personally got the Autel Scanner TS508WF used for $130 on eBay.
So helpful! I went to a tire dealer and they told me they couldn't replace a sensor on a Lexus, that only Lexus could do that. Obviously that is not accurate after watching this. So if I buy this sensor at Napa, should most tire repair shops be able to do this repair? Thank you
@@stephaniejunca2875 100% they should, though some repair shops are picky/funny about bringing your own parts, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask them before. I’d have them do it next time you’re in for tire replacement/balance/rotation/alignment/etc. That’s laughable saying that only Lexus can do it, it’s just a fancy Toyota. 😂 Good luck!
@ thank u so much!
Just done with my car! Thank you!!!
Very helpful. Thank you
Is it possible to replace the battery of the censor only??
@@knowsar yes, but for only $30, I’d replace the sensor because the sensor could malfunction at some point, it’s been in your wheel for probably more than a decade. Also, it looks like it’d be a mess dealing with the glue that the battery is in, inside the sensor.
Thank you for the video. It is really helpful
@@michaelakindutire9968 glad it helped!
Thank you for the great video. How long did the install take? Do you recommend DIY or paying someone $100?
@@vzsvz3 Thanks! If someone will do it for $100, I’d pay them, but much more than that and I’d do it myself. It took me probably 2-3 hours, maybe more.
Being near and air bag I think you should have unhooked the battery. This way in case of a bo bo it would not deploy.
@@midiman5045 Good point, I probably should have. I’ll definitely do that next time I’m working around an air bag. That could have been bad and also given me a heart attack if it went off. 😅
How likely is the bead seal to be screwed up? I guess I was under the belief that would happen if you basically dismounted the tire
@@AmmoTesting it’s definitely a possibility, I’d say just be careful not to scrape the metal inner rim. I’ve taken all 4 tires off on both of my vehicles this year and have not had any bead leakage if that makes you feel any better.
@shanewazhere thank you!
Well done , never even knew there was a motor up there ! 😅
love your video!! thank you!
For those that have a 2015 or newer ES, the cable for the brake light is not accessible without removing the rear brake light first. Very simple. Just hold the dome of the rear brake light and slide it to the right, it'll "unlock" and you can lift it up and then see where the brake light cable disconnects. The rest of the instructions are basically the same.
Just got the scanner looks a very good one
Hi ! Maybe you know where the connectors for the oxygen sensors of the rear catalytic converter (Bank 1) are located. Is it possible that one of them is located under the driver’s seat, or am I mistaken? great video! Btw.
@@TheLastVanGogh the oxygen sensors are attached into the pipe right before the converter and right after it. The cables shouldn’t be terribly long and you can trace it to the connector. I do not believe one is located under the drivers seat.
Sure if you have a sensor tool
Hi Shane - was the tpms tool $30 to buy or rent? Seems I can’t locate one for a reasonable price…
@ Either A, buy it from Amazon and return after programming once or B, buy it for half the price on eBay. Doesn’t matter if it’s used or not. I will be keeping mine because I suspect I’ll be using it for a while and for any issues in the future. Maybe one of your local auto parts stores has one you can rent?? I’ve never asked.
Hey buddy...i have a 2009 toyota avalon....do i just replace the main 4 sensors? Or do I have to replace the one in spare tire too? They are all dead........thank you
@@mrfuel1866 For my car, yes, I have a sensor in my spare tire. If the other 4 are dead, I would most definitely replace the spare tire one as well if you can’t read it with the scanner.
@shanewazhere thank you very much my friend....i really appreciate your help...
Thanks a lot buddy....great video and explanation
Would you need to rebalance the tire after installing the new TPMS?
@@charmer888 if the difference in weight was a bit more than a different brand of TPMS sensors, then maybe yes. I usually get my tires balanced and aligned every 5-10k miles anyways, so it not a big deal for me. I wouldn’t think the minor, if any at all, weight difference would affect your tires at all. You can always weigh the old and new sensor with a kitchen scale or something to see the difference.
@shane is it possible the lift gate fails to open if the 12v battery is starting to fail? I can’t find anything related to this and wanted to rule out the battery piece before I replace the motor as you did. Thanks!
@@zachweber1198 I would say it’s a possibility, but not likely. If you have around 12V with the car off and 14 V with it on and the trunk is raising with no issues, I think the battery wouldn’t have an effect on it. Have you changed the shocks?
I have changed the shocks. Liftgate works intermittently. I have a 2013 450h and the 12v battery is original - measurements are good though..
@@zachweber1198 unfortunately my guess is the liftgate is going out. I’m surprised it’s lasted this long. Also, WOW. Your battery is still kicking at 11 years old? Is that standard lead acid or AGM battery? I’d probably get that battery replaced as well just as a preventative maintenance at this point.
These car comes with a remote start I saw on another video before .
@@Johnny-wo7rc perhaps some folks paid for an upgrade at the dealership for it when they bought it new, but it doesn’t come standard on these unfortunately.
@shanewazhere that's a hidden feature they don't tell you about certain model cones with.
Thank you for a very thorough and detailed explanation. Now I did everything according to your video and my blinking TPMS light is gone.

Valvoline over Pennzoil?
The brand of oil doesn’t matter at all. My dad was engendering the diesel engines at Mercedes until his retirement 9 years ago. They did run long tests and didn’t see noticeable difference between the cheapest and more expensive oils. How often you change your oil has much greater effect…
@@p__jay I agree, I’d say at least make sure it’s full synthetic at least, but even still.

Take the whole car apart for the rear screen... 😏🤔 It was day when you started and night when you finished removing the real panel. Great dedication, but this is a no for me.
@@dee.hunter lol, I totally get it. I took a break to eat dinner while doing it, but yeah, probably not super worth for most folks.
If you need to do this, You can skip taking the back seats out at all. It's a ton of unnecessary work. You can just take the seat head rests off, Then the seat belt attachments, pop out the rear pillars and pry the back deck up from behind the seats, I just had to do it on my 2008 es350 to install a replacement / upgraded subwoofer. You just have to take your time prying the deck up, It goes right back in like that no problem tho..
